2. List of things I once called stupid but now love:
Yu-Gi-Oh!, Hellboy, Spider-Man, i.ROBOT, the movie Cars, SGT FROG, Digimon... and it goes on. D: It can be a bit humiliating to tell your friends, but I think you should. It's much more fun to dork out about fandoms they share than to keep it inside just because you're embarrassed for coming to love it late. Besides, if they're good friends they'll forgive you. It happens. D: (In my case, regretably more often than it should.)

ALSO: Although I do think the fandom is a little overblown, I still adore Avatar and encourage you to give it a chance come seaosn 3. :D

10. Who CARES if Cartoon Network was your gateway to anime? After all, we're in AMERICA. Most american anime fans you meet will say that their gateway anime was something dorky like Sailor Moon or Poke'mon. There's nothing wrong with that! The first anime I watched was Poke'mon, but the show that got me interested in looking for more was Yu-Gi-Oh!. That's possibly the dorkiest of the dork anime shows. D: It doesn't matter where you start; even if your first anime was HAMTARO, that doesn't make you any LESS of an anime fan. Don't listen to anyone who says so, they're stupid. 'Aight? D:

Yu-gi-oh is AMAZING. XD If only because it's complete crack.

Tis not, alas! :(((( Though I am in love with the secret. I am curious to know who thinks this is me!

you've contradicted yourself.

Naruto, FMA, Inuyasha ... these are all popular anime as well. so you're telling people to stop jumping on the bandwagon of popular anime and watch different anime and yet you proclaim that maybe your popular anime, which is NOT listed because you look down on those, is better

you've eaten your own tail.

Haruhi/Tamaki isn't canon so their ship is no different from your slash and uncommon het pairings. If you don't feel like telling them to fuck off, at least tell them that; it might get them to shut up for a bit.

RE: not!secret

Nice, you totally missed my point. You're actually someone I like in fandom (sorry, domain gave it away). My point in the original secret was that people who only jump from popular stuff to popular stuff without even trying to reach farther out suck. I can't fathom someone that likes those popular shounen series can't find something else to like that isn't a fandom darling.

You were not my target - I mean, you write FFIV, Shadow Hearts, Utena and FFT fic. You can reach out farther than Adult Swim and whatever Electronics Boutique chooses to pimp.

(Anonymous) 2007-08-18 09:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Sorry, cannot be bothered to use anonymous image hosting. YOU NEVER WOULD HAVE KNOWN THE DIFFERENCE IF I HADN'T BEEN ARBITRARILY MARKED DOWN FOR NON-SECRETNESS.

Alas, you have missed my point as well. Popularity may not equal quality, but that by logic it's no indicator of anything beyond availability. Long shounen series are very likely to be picked up by American distributors. Some of them are good, some of them are bad. The exact same thing is true of obscure stuff.

Sometimes things are popular because they are good. Stranger things have happened.

They are barely real people, because they are at least partially pretending as it is. It's like a LARP, but instead of a fat goth kid, it's run by Stan Lee.

[identity profile] stormbringer986.livejournal.com 2007-08-18 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
2. Forget what your friends will think. It's so worth getting into it, even if you avoid the whole "fandom" part of it (like I do). I thought it looked stupid as hell too, until my friend forced me to watch the first DVD last year. A week after that, I'd bought every other volume available at that time and watched them.

10. Right on! Toonami was how I found out about most of the original anime series I was interested in, and I don't care what crap anyone has to say about it. If it wasn't for Toonami, I never would've known about most of them OR the ones I got into because I saw them mentioned on websites about those same shows.

I didn't really ship anything in this show, but I loved it and I love you for giving it some love. Big Wolf on Campus was fucking AWESOME.

[identity profile] call-me-ishmael.livejournal.com 2007-08-18 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
2 - I hesitated about A:TLA but my friends kept going on about how it was a great show, and I'm so, so glad I decided to watch it. Even if you keep it secret, the Avatar is worth watching. (Just be careful of the fandom itself...it can get kinda wanky since the bulk of fans are fairly young.)

13 - It was funny, but taking who he was into account ruined it. From somebody not working for LJ? Totally ok joke. You don't make jokes about your customers where they can hear you.

16 - What I remember of the manga, the mangaka actually seemed to like Mori/Haruhi, which I found amusing. One day I'll actually finish the anime...

I can't understand how anybody who was exposed to American popular culture in the last century could possibly not find this show both hilarious and amazing.

[identity profile] sakurabatou.livejournal.com 2007-08-18 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
2. Oh man. D: Now that I've actually seen some of the show and am all "holy crap this kicks ass", so many of my friends are like "ew, Avatar". WHY. IT'S AMAZING. And this is ME saying this. Me who is terribly biased against things with more frames per second then your standard shounen anime.

God, I need to buy the DVDs.

[identity profile] insanepurin.livejournal.com 2007-08-18 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
9. Holy shit, I miss old Garfield. DDD: I wonder what the heck happened to Lyman anyway. XDDD!
10. My gateway Anime was Sailor Moon. AND I WOULDN'T HAVE IT ANY OTHER WAY

[identity profile] alexander.livejournal.com 2007-08-18 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
ahaha I love the tone now XD

But I do like shounen.

HOW CAN YOU BEAT BEING EATEN BY A SHARK.

Then again, I think that's HILARIOUS.

4. I did until last night. Then Parthenon and his real partner were just SO ADORABLE on the phone that I had to stop. D:

7. BIG WOLF BIG WOLF I SHIP IT TOO

12. I do this. ALL THE TIME. It's embarrassing. But sometimes I manage to drag my friends into it just a little and that helps. But DDDD: I feel like such a nerd.

16. IAWTMFS. Damnit. D:

Abuse of D: face whooooo!

[identity profile] threepwillow.livejournal.com 2007-08-18 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
God, the more I think about it the Big Wolf stuff is just like Jake/Marco. MAYBE THAT'S WHY I SHIPPED IT.

also 10: ILU, SRSLY. ♥ My very first fandom argument was with a friend of mine in the FOURTH GRADE over whether "Sage" from "Ronin Warriors" was hotter than Trowa from Gundam Wing. TOONAMI CHANGED MY LIFE.

5. Oh my god, I love you for even having HEARD of Fondue & Sniz! And I can totally see what you mean...though I always kind of thought they were brothers or something. Meh.

16. The whole point of fandom is to come up with things that DON'T happen in canon, not just to reiterate what's already there. Ship whatever the hell you want. =D Anything can work if you try hard enough.
blackhearts: (bang bang baby.)

[personal profile] blackhearts 2007-08-18 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
5. They were brothers. I distinctly remember them having the same name... Brokowski or something, I think.

2. It's never too late XD I love that series, and I still have to fight that little pang of embarrassment every time I fess up to it! ha ha ha.

7. Both of those actors look really farmiliar. What show is it?

[identity profile] shoyesainomiko.livejournal.com 2007-08-18 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
7. OMG. Is that that werewolf in high school thing that played on Fox Family forever and a day ago? Because if so, I TOTALLY AGREE.

[identity profile] greyswandir.livejournal.com 2007-08-18 02:19 am (UTC)(link)
2. Do it quickly. Like ripping off a bandaid. Talking w/ new fans > mocking them for their sudden change of heart. *nodnod*

10. They got me into anime too! I used to watch Dragon Ball Z religiously.

Also; too many "I ship ___" secrets. Variety, plz! ;;
