Oh, hello. You must be me.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-25 06:17 am (UTC)(link)
OP are you me? I could've written every word of this.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-25 06:18 am (UTC)(link)
...You missed the point of the entire series.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-25 06:20 am (UTC)(link)
I was twenty when I first saw this movie, and I don't think I could have handled that, but I can see why you would want that, OP. It would be thought-provoking, but since it was the end of a trilogy, they needed happier closure (as someone already mentioned). If this were a standalone film, though, that ending might have worked.

I've been scared of that, too, when I've seen fics in my smaller fandoms that got no response whatsoever (I reviewed when I liked anything about the fic). But I wonder how much different it is to enjoy writing a fic and never post, and enjoy writing a fic, post, and get little to no response. Either way, as long as I enjoyed it, its primary purpose was achieved, even if I'm a little disappointed. I might give it a shot, stopped avoiding little fandoms.

I think I'd only be truly crushed if I got no hits or faves or reviews posting in a large and active fandom, on a popular site, writing a popular character or pairing. I'd endlessly agonize over how I personally managed to fuck that one up.

Good night! Sleep tight! Don't let the bedbugs bite! NTTAWT if you're into that kind of thing.

Re: f!s, can you indulge me in a rant?

[personal profile] omorka 2012-11-25 06:28 am (UTC)(link)
The last time one of my male friends did the "all women want asshole guys, waah waah, why," rant, I asked him why all guys want immature girls who are stone crazy. He started to explain that that wasn't true, and I sat there with my arms folded and nodded without saying anything until the penny dropped.

To his credit, he did eventually get it. It just took longer than I'd hoped.

Thank you for proving that people that whine about SJWs are usually just whiny sexist assholes.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-25 06:32 am (UTC)(link)
Being sexist = awesome!

YEAH! YOU TELL THOSE BITCHES!!!!

(Anonymous) 2012-11-25 06:34 am (UTC)(link)
DA

If you want to get teeechnical, you're twisting the discussion into something completely different. To quote, the anon above said, "Considering there are some "fans" who like to claim that Subaru/Seishirou and Touya/Yukito were just friends...." The issue is not, "Do they count as a a 'canon pairing' or having 'love or romance as a ship would usually be'?" The issue is, "Do they have some canon relationship beyond 'just friends'?" And whatever else you can say about Subaru and Seishiro, you cannot say they are "just friends" without contradicting textual (as opposed to subtextual) canon.

(For the curious: Tokyo Babylon, vo. 6: pg. 157 of the Japanese Wings version, pg. 159 of the English Tokyopop version)

You almost had a legitimate point, since white (straight, cis, etc) SJWs do like to claim they speak for everyone, even when they're not part of the minority they're speaking for.

But the fact that you use the word 'bitch' ~5 times to get your point across sort of makes me think that actually you're just a raging sexist and you're mad that people aren't letting your shit slide anymore.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-25 06:37 am (UTC)(link)
There are other shows that actually GO THERE without being 'lol just friends y/y?' fanservicey baiting while not being yaoi though.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-25 06:37 am (UTC)(link)
Do they ever technically kiss on-page? I thought they only had really really really suggestively positioned panel angles, so you can tell what they're doing without ever actually seeing their lips touch.

I've pretty much given up on trying to be reasonable with guys who believe these stereotypes; any time I try to point out that they're not true I'm bombarded with "Shut up, woman. You, as a woman, can't possibly understand the thought processes of women. Only us menz can understand how women think." I guess that's why these same guys also complain that women are so confusing and tricky and impossible to understand; go figure.

Sorry you had to deal with that. Those guys sound incredibly frustrating and douchey; not to mention stupid, using a site whose front page reads "This page is about me and why everything I like is great. If you disagree with anything you find on this page, you are wrong." as a source.

I would have enjoyed this movie more if I didn't feel like it was deliberately punching me in the feelings. To clarify: I admire well-done moments of tragedy in a movie, I don't like being told "YOU SHOULD FEEL SAD NOW".

Good one.

erasure? refusing to accept what's heavily implied to be a homosexual couple? it's happened in fandoms with more canonically gay couples than this.

SPOILERS in here

(Anonymous) 2012-11-25 06:39 am (UTC)(link)
I was actually kind of mad when they showed the Giant reassembling itself. "You put me though that last ten minutes for THIS?" - and that's with the ability actually shown earlier in the film. I would have been full of fan rage if it hadn't been foreshadowed.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-25 06:40 am (UTC)(link)
Not a couple, per se, but is no one going to mention the little extra at the end of volume 16 of X?

(Anonymous) 2012-11-25 06:42 am (UTC)(link)
I still remember when the first ads for Glee came out, complete with hints of shitty cover songs to come. I thought "lol this shit looks awful nobody will watch it."

I wish I had been right. (about the audience, I was right about the quality)

What book is it?

(Anonymous) 2012-11-25 06:49 am (UTC)(link)
It's a term that is arbitrarily applied to anyone that the person using the word thinks is too angry/aggressive/unapologetic about things like racism/sexism/transphobia/homophobia. It is sometimes applied justifiably (see, for example, people like riley on tumblr - people that spend most of their time being angry and hateful and looking for the slightest excuse to rage at and tear down people for the tiniest mistakes to make themselves feel morally superior).

It is also fairly often applied to people that speak up about issues of social justice and object to sexist/racist/transphobic/homophobic trends in media and society, however they are expressed. This is because most people get uncomfortable when someone points out problems in the media they consume or the society they live in, or in their behaviour. So they respond in a dismissive or derisive manner to any criticisms, and try to make the person who brings up the criticisms feel stupid or silly for caring about those issues. When that person gets angry because they refuse to listen or care, the person who is dismissing them gets to say they're being a silly, hysterical and overreacting SJW.

TL;DR it's a term that is occassionally applied to people that deserve the label, but more often used to shut down discussion of things tha make people uncomfortable.

Re: ANAL SEX THREAD

[personal profile] darkmanifest 2012-11-25 06:49 am (UTC)(link)
This is the first time I've read about a guy taking a girl up on an "I will if you will" anal sex proposal. I am oddly cheered.
