How much do you spend on a present

(Anonymous) 2012-12-23 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I typically go for around 15-20 bucks but I see people sending 50 dollars or more on their friends and I'm just surprised. Maybe I'm just a cheapass I mean I would get it if it was for your family but wow, wish I had that much money.

Same, around 15-20.. I wish I could spend more and give more presents but they know I can't afford it. Hopefully next year I'll be able to afford it, even though it's not the amount of money you spend on a gift that really makes it. It's the thought behind it.

I only buy gifts when I can find something that is truly right for someone. Usually that's in the $20-$40 range but I'll go over that if it's someone I'm really close to.

Usually I spend around $20 or so, though I recently spent more on one for my sister's mother-in-law (whom I'm also close to) because 1) it was something she really wanted [she put "Love, love, love this" by it on her wish list] and 2) we go over to her house for most family gatherings and sometimes just for game nights and stuff. Given the time, money, and general resources she's expended over the years so we can have fun and family time together, I think she MORE than deserves having a some extra money spent on her.

I don't buy for friends, except on rare occasions. Then, I generally spend less than £10 on them. My immediate family get something every year, though, and it ranges from £10 to around £50, depending on whether I give them money or actually buy something.

It depends, seriously. My BFFs and I generally figure out what we can afford each year, and tell each other that. However, those two women are closer than family to me, and I spend more on them than I do anyone, if we have the money.

I have a habit of spending more than I intend to. This year has been a little difficult but I've spent around $10 to $45 on presents. In the past, when I had money to splurge, I've spent about $50-$100 per present, family and friends (but I only ever buy presents for my two best friends)

Yeahhh, I can't afford to spend that much. ouch. maybe when I have kids.

I wouldn't even spend $50 on an SO unless we were like, basically engaged (or married) AND I had the funds.

This year I had to be particularly frugal. I think the most I spent on my family was $12 for my dad's gift. But I do try to get them things I know they'll really like, and that's literally all the money I had to spend this year. (As in, I am now out. I basically have a small pile of coins. Yeah, I didn't get any hours this break...I'm looking into getting some more work...)

It depends. My family is usually around $15-30 depending on the gift and the person. Lately my friends and I have been doing one Secret Santa around $20-25 instead of us getting a everyone (8-10 people) a gift, even if they were small inexpensive things.

A few years ago however I ended up making huge photo albums for some friends who I'd known 10 years (+1 for me, and my mom wanted one). The prints alone were over $90. The albums were on sale but still they were large and there were 5 of them. It was a lot work assembling them and writing the captions, but omg it's my favorite thing I've ever given anyone ever. Their faces were PRICELESS. :D

I average around 20-30 a person including my siblings...but my best friend gets around the $50-60 range, my parents around the $70-100 range depending on my success of the year and my baby sister around $40.

Then I go spend a few hundred on myself.

I spend about $50 a person but I only buy presents for the four people closest to me. I'm just not really big on giving or receiving gifts and my friends all know that.

I usually don't buy presents that cost more than 70 bucks (video games for my bro mainly) but I've been known to spend around 200 to 300 dollars per person when I buy Christmas gifts. But that's only four people, and I save all year to afford that. :)

20-25, but mainly because I buy for a lot of people. There are maybe four exceptions: My mom, my best friend, and my boss and one coworker because I'm very close to both of them. For them about 40-50 each.

I might spend $50 on a friend. Sometimes money is tight, sometimes I can splurge a little. I don't feel comfortable saying how much I spent (though it was less than 50 per person), but I was able to get things for my two closest friends and both my parents this year.

I don't think it matters if it's a friend or family. Some of us have friends that we love as much or more than family.

SA

To clarify, I would spend $50 if it was the absolute perfect thing for that person (and if I had the money, of course). Sometimes the perfect gift is actually pretty cheap.

I'm poor, so I made all my gifts this year from stuff I already had. In past years I've spent max of $20 per person, maybe more for my mom.

I think what you spend on a present is really dependent on your budget. If I could afford to I'd spoil the heck out of my family and friends and get them amazing gifts. I'd love to look at the gift rather than the price, but that's just not the world I live in right now.
