What are you doing?

Tonight, I'm spending time with a part of my family, for my second cousin's first Christmas. Then my dad wants me at his house so he can have everyone in the morning. The after that, I'm spending the day with my boyfriend and his family.

I'm excited to see my dad open his present. Old Superman comics are a win for him (and personally, I'm just trying to get him back into it all heh...he got out of it because all of his comics got stolen when he was a teenager).

Stuff about Santa Claus

Growing up, did any of you who did the Christmas-presents-via-Santa thing come up with your own Santa mythology? My brother and I had a lot of theories about Santa when we were kids, one of them being that Santa had people scouting out toys that were popular so that he’d know what would be in demand when Christmas came. There were other, more elaborate theories, but I can’t remember them all.

Best friend's boyfriends

My best friend dated this guy for a year and me and the boyfriend had class together. We got to be really close. Which made it super awkward when they broke up for everyone, but we've all gotten used to it at this point.
My problem is her new boyfriend. I ran into them last week and we all hung out for a bit. He seemed pretty cool but I didn't want to get attached so I wouldn't repeat what happened last time. Well, he messaged me a couple nights ago and basically confirmed that he is pretty cool. We had a long conversation and he confided that he just felt lonely because he didn't have a lot of friends. So at this point, I'm feeling bad and emotionally responsible for him. Then he tells me that he and my friend broke up, but he swears it's a misunderstanding and he'll prove it, blah blah blah. I figure they'll probably get back together. So I don't really know what to do now. I guess I just need to vent somewhere.
Long story short, I'm stuck playing therapist to my friend's ex-boyfriend and it's wearing me out.

I just got my Yuletide fic and I really didn't like it. I feel really bad. Needed to say that out loud somewhere before I suck it up and reread a few times to see if there are bits of it I actually do like so I can comment.

I am always really paranoid that my recipient won't like what I've written, and in the past I've always just been happy to get a fic and interested to see where people have gone with my beloved rare characters.

I think I let myself get too excited this year and I forgot that sometimes you'll get paired with a writer who likes the same fandom but doesn't really give a shit about your favourite character and is stuck having to write something in which they have no investment. I should just be grateful for the effort they put in to write against their own inclinations for me. And I will be. Just give me an hour...

So I just went on an archive binge, and am now sad because it won't be updating for a while. And none of my friends like D&D or OotS, so I'm just going to flail here instead about how awesome it is.

I'm currently texting straight from a family reunion at this restaurant and I suddenly realize that I have COMPLETELY DIFFERENT interests from almost anyone else. Sure I can talk about college and my normal life but at the end of it, there is absolutely no one I can talk to who knows of my fandoms (Touhou and Homestuck, as you all may have known) or knows of "fanfiction" and "fanart". Most of the books I've read are either historical encyclopedias or novels no one has ever heard of and I usually watch Documentaries and Docu-dramas on TV.

In short, I am in the middle of the biggest family reunion of the end of the year, and I am all alone.

I wish I'm not alone.
