Seriously? Not everyone has the money or opportunity to travel to NYC to see plays on Broadway. That doesn't mean they're less of a fan. Stop being such a pretentious dick, ffs.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-31 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
It does mean that, though. Until you've experienced something like Les Mis live, first-hand, in a world-class theater (NOT on a screen of any kind and NOT at the community playhouse), you honestly cannot have the same appreciation for it that a live audience would. It's just not physically possible. Does it matter that much in the scheme of things? No - but don't delude yourself.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-31 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
OMG, you're like the theater version of those people who deride "fake geek girls" aren't you.

"omg, you're not a real fan of xyz unless you've seen it ~live~ on ~Broadway~"

I am so glad I'm not actually friends with anyone like you.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-31 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
I didn't say that you can't be a "real" fan. I said that to say you can feel the same thing for something you saw on a screen as a live audience saw in a Broadway theater, you are mistaken.

... okay, bye now.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-31 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
Except there are excellent theaters outside of New York and London, and many of the actors in off Broadway productions have worked on Broadway themselves. Everywhere that is not Broadway =/= a community playhouse. I do agree that there's a difference between seeing a play performed live and watching it on screen, since seeing one live is a much more visceral experience, but saying that you can only be a true fan if you've seen certain productions in certain places is ridiculous. That kind of attitude also doesn't do much to dispel the idea that theater fans are all snobby assholes, and as a bonus it plays into the ridiculousness that is the urban and coastal superiority complex.

Nicely spoken, and to the heart of the matter! A+

+1, anon. I saw it in an excellent, high-quality production with professional actors, in Québec City. But since it wasn't Broadway/London, it's OMG unacceptable? I don't get that logic.

It doesn't matter if someone read the book, watched the movie, watched a production at Broadway or at high school, watched the 25th anniversary concert on YouTube - they can still be fans. No matter what anyone says.

Well said! One of the things I love best about live theatre is that talent is by no means confined to Broadway or the West End. Great performances can come from anywhere. I've personally been lucky enough to see several shows on Broadway/the West End, including Les Miz. Were they all incredible? Some more than others, but for the most part yes. Is that the only place I've seen great theatre? Absolutely not.

(FWIW, my favorite theatre company is the Arden in Philadelphia.)

(Anonymous) 2012-12-31 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
haha oh wow. You really are pretentious.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-31 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
You are a piece of shit and should die.

Tell me where you live. Please. I will track you down, and I will kill you. Because you do not deserve to live.

You are a waste. You are a pathetic wastrel, a shallow child who will never evolve beyond your petty state. You are a sack of shit who pretends at humanity because you've seen a few plays.

This is reality: it doesn't matter how many productions you've seen on Broadway. You're still a terrible human being. You're still a petty moron incapable of any thought that extends beyond that of a high school student. You're still, functionally, a child.

You're still someone we would do well to be rid of.

You deserve to die. By culling you, we will secure our future. We will ensure that those who survive are people of logic and character. You are NOT logical, and you do NOT have character.

I will stab you in your fucking heart, you fucking piece of shit. And like the coward you are, you will beg for me to stop as I do it. You will not fight back, because you are incapable of such will; you will sputter and cough up blood. You will die a death as pathetic as your life. You will die the death of a loser.

ayrt was being an ass but seriously, I mean this is obviously a troll comment, but it's still fucking unacceptable. Shame on you.

omg I am dying over here. You went so far over the top that you're not even orbiting Earth, anon, so bravo.

Anyway, ayrt is definitely being a douchebag but there's no proof you're NOT talking to a high schooler (who tend to be the ones with their panties in a bunch about Les Mis anyway... them and college freshmen, who are just high schoolers who live away from home)

I saw "Into the Woods" on Broadway. And then later I saw it done by a local high school, and to be honest, the high school production had some elements I liked just as much, or even better, than the Broadway version. (For one thing, the high school had twin brothers as the princes, and boy could they sing.)

I've also seen plays on Broadway and then later when they'd gone on tour and liked the touring version better. There isn't anything particularly magical about one or two theater districts over all the productions everywhere else.

LOL, you're just totally wrong. I've seen Les Mis five times on Broadway and twice in ~rinky dink~ little venues outside of New York. The smaller scale was more intimate, an entirely new experience from the grandeur of the moving stage, and made me look at the show in a whole new light.

You're a sad insecure little snot and I can guarantee Broadway is lolling at you, while at the same time gladly taking your money.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-31 03:26 pm (UTC)(link)
So what you're saying is that you are a pretentious dickhole. Got it.
