It's a good thing you're not in the fandom. I'd really hate being associated with people like you. It's because of the more vocal "I LOVE IchiRuki and HATE Orihime!!! DIE ORIHIME!!!" people like you that I don't usually let on that I even like IchiRuki in the first place.

Though, I must be the odd one out because I ship IchiRuki AND I love Orihime. Take that, fandom stereotypes! XD

I always thought they were intended to be annoyingly optimistic and pessimistic. The show's appeal lies in how the characters' psychological problems are so exaggerated it's hilarious.

That's why I love it, at least. Well, that and it made references to Phoenix Wright and Black Jack, which makes me a happy camper.

8. For short, no. You shouldn't have to feel that way. I've been a Christian for 5 years and in fandom for about 8, and though I struggle with fandom because of my religion, I refuse to give either of them up.

8: IMO, no, fundamentalist/dominionist Christianity and fandom (or artistic creativity in general) cannot co-exist, since extreme fundamentalism/dominionism demands imagination be "held captive to Christ" and frowns on such things as fantasy and creativity and openmindedness, all necessary things to be a writer of anything good (oh sure, you can churn out crap like Janette Oke and the Left Behind writers do and self-help books, but forget fantasy, horror, drama focused on anything but repentance, and realistic characters)

That said, and this is very important, moderate and liberal Christianity and Christianity-including syncretic faiths have no problem coexisting with fandom, since moderate and liberal Christianity DON'T frown on imagination, on "putting yourself in someone else's shoes" mentally even if it's a "bad person" or "bad things," on realistically writing non-Christian characters or less "perfect" Christians.

Yeah, if you're a strict fundie with beliefs against imaginations that contradict strict Christian fundamentalism, it's probably a good idea to either abandon fandom or find a "more acceptable" fandom (written by a writer as strict as you), but most of us can be both. ^_^

11: I empathize. My main fandom is mostly dead (e.g. trying to find good, new Trigun fic anymore is hard, and for a Vash/Livio fan such as myself, SAD when I find absolutely none). The manga is better, yet people STILL mostly write for the anime.

15: Take your shipwar somewhere else. >_Cloud is heterosexual? I think someone named Mukki and Cloud's responses to him just might contradict that. At the very least I'm pretty sure it's canon he's bi.

6. oh, WORD. I drift in and out of the fandom and even have my own fancharacter (botched Zim and Dib hybrid clone ftw!), but it's so horrible and annoying that most of the time I just stay on the edge and occasionally make AMVs. Even those garner crazy batshit fangirls! D: I helped my friend when he was creating his samurai Irken so he'd wouldn't turn cliche and angsty, thank God.

maybe i'm too pessimistic but i think if yoko really DID break up the beatles(and she didn't) fans ought to thank her. No band has stayed together and remained great forever. eventually, they start to decay. it's better to break up at the height of popularity so there's never that feeling of "oh yeah they're way past their prime now" to take away from their legend. also i -like- yoko.

I love all the weird cliches in that fandom. I know they should annoy the hell out of me, but there's something about it that really does it for me. I've only ever lurked in that fandom, but I loved all the weird cheesy websites that popped up in the summer after the show (especially this one (http://www.geocities.com/the_helish_garden/)!), and there are a lot of random fanfics that I like. I mean, I don't even normally read fanfiction, but there are some that I read for the first time back in '01 or '02 that I still visit from time to time. Oh, and I even like the Mary Sues!

It's sort of a guilty pleasure of mine. I think I love that it's like a harkening back to a kinder, gentler, more earnest internet culture. Before all the snarking, elitism, and "lulz."
