That said, some of Stephen Kings are pretty eh too. I still prefer his. But he has a bigger body of work to draw comparison from I guess.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-10 10:35 pm (UTC)(link)Anyhoo, I think Hill's work is better than some of King's stuff but not as good as King's best (I.E. The Shining or It).

(Anonymous) 2013-02-10 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)I'm really hoping the same thing isn't going to happen with Horns.
I'm not even going to compare King and Hill though! Sure, not all of King's books are masterpieces, but I have yet to find one that didn't at least entertain me. He's my favorite author, and I think that won't change any time soon. :D

I'm going to warn you though, as someone who really liked Hill's Heart-Shaped Box, I really disliked Horns. It started off well but then just went downhill...I don't think I finished it.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-11 01:11 am (UTC)(link)Amazon tells me Thumbprint was published in 2008. It's a short story though, and I'm not sure how it was published on paper since I personally bought it for my Kindle. The reviews for it are pretty good so I think I may have to reread it eventually, but I think my main problem with it was really the ending. If you've read Stephen King's Cell... it's that kind of ending (which is a bit weird because Cell's ending didn't enraged me half as much!).

(Anonymous) 2013-02-11 01:24 am (UTC)(link)So I kinda feel about him the same way I feel about King-- not all of his stuff is good, but it IS all well-written.

I loved Heart Shaped Box, but I really disliked Horns (and I really need to pick up a Locke and Key trade soon; I want to read it so bad).
He's a good writer but not everything he does is going to be great.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-11 03:43 am (UTC)(link)(I haven't read Locke and Key, but hear it's amazing.)
