what is wrong with you? no, not everybody is faking their diagnoses, but some of them are. this is not news. this is the reason things like fake_ljers and munchausen's by internet exist. people on the internet lie and fake and exaggerate in order to leech attention just as much as people in real life, and your crusading against anyone who dares to mention that those people exist is completely missing the point.

The OP's situation is completely the same, regardless of whether their friends have a genuine medical condition or are faking. It doesn't matter if they're actually sick or not, because OP needs to draw fucking boundary lines stat, no matter whether they're actually sick or not.

Nobody (who is not a parent or professional health care provider) is obliged or can be expected to care for someone just because they're sick.

Do you see how in the OP's situation that is the exactly same thing, and therefore bringing up faking is just being a giant fucking douchebag?

The point of my original response was to point out that commenters were jumping to "OP's friends are fakes and liars" when that was NOT PART OF THE SECRET.

So all I'm trying to say is "don't assume people are fakers and don't have legitimate problems" when you have no way of knowing.

No I do not think it is equally valid. Especially if THEY ARE YOUR FRIENDS.

If you think it is just as valid to assume that your friends are fake liars as that they are truly representing their own experiences, then yes, I go back my conclusion that a lot of people on this thread are assholes.

We're not talking about our personal friends. We're talking about the random people on the internet that the OP is talking about, and that we don't actually know. It's as valid to assume that they are fakers as it is to assume that they are for real, because we don't know them, and given the limited information we have, both possibilities are likely.

possibly because some people vent and bare their souls to everyone who is even somewhat friendly with them, regardless of whether they've been encouraged or invited to do so, and sometimes the recipient of the venting feels guilty about telling them "please don't do this"?

I feel like it's more harmful to dismiss people with legitimate problems than help people with exaggerated/non-existent problems, but that's just me.
