Chakotay/Seven. Dear fuck, that pairing was stupid as hell, even by Voyager standards, and I say that as a fan of the show. It's not as stupid as say, Threshold, but it's a pretty goddamn close second. On the other hand, hating this pairing is about the only thing J/7 and J/C fans have in common, even if we have vastly different reasons for our rage, so I guess one could argue that at the very least it promotes inter-ship harmony after a fashion.

I saw it there and kind of liked it a bit, but I must be the only Voyager fan out there who wanted Janeway/Bellana over J/7. Paris was just the worst, ugh.

Nah, you're not alone. There's plenty of J/T fic out there, often right alongside the J/7 fic or even mixed in with it in a big, happy OT3. I'm sorry I can't point you to the really good ones though, 'cause I'm kind of the opposite of you. I like Tom (in fact, I ship him with Chakotay) and dislike B'Ellana.

It felt like the writers put the unattached characters' names into a hat, drew out two at random, and then put those characters together without bothering to have any natural build-up or chemistry. It's like the anon said in the Troy/Britta thread above: I like the characters individually, but I do not understand them together.

THIS. Not to mention I was also annoyed because I shipped Seven/Doctor, which actually had a possibility of being endgame.

Dear fucking god, this. Apparently it was because Beltran was complaining about Chakotay being sidelined in later seasons (okay, I do sort of see his point) and requesting some sort of romance for him.

So they chose... the character he's barely had any interaction with :|

Well done, Voyager.

Well done.

(Shhh. We do not speak of Threshold. It's all a fever dream Tom had after the test went wrong. Nothing can convince me otherwise.)

Yup, that's pretty much how it went.

Your explanation for the Episode That Must Not Be Named makes more sense to me than any canon explanation ever could.

Yup. He wakes up, goes, "Well, that was fucking weird", and has trouble making eye contact with Janeway for the next week. The end.

Not to mention the fact that he'll never be able to look at lizards the same way again.

I pretty much stopped watching Voyager after season five, what with how it became the Seven of Nine soap opera. I mean, I really liked Seven, but what I had loved about the show (and DS9 before it) was how it was an ensemble cast... and suddenly, it was almost all about Seven and the Borg. (And the Borg are my least favorite Star Trek villains.) So, I didn't watch it except for a couple random eps that I tuned into while bored.

... but I watched the finale. And saw that Chakotay and Seven were together. And raged. And RAAAAAGED. My teen Chakotay/Janeway shipper self was PISSED. Moreover, the character types didn't make any sense together. I suppose maybe there was character building that I missed because I hadn't watched the previous seasons but somehow I doubt it.
