Re: Ships you used to love but don't anymore

Ha! Yes, this. I remember I used to love Holly Black's Tithe, and I shipped the centuries old fairy with the "human" teenager. Now I can't believe how creepy it is.

i think we're understanding mekkio's point differently. i think previous anon understood it in the way i understood it. mekkio was not as clear as they needed to be, in any case, and you are furthering what you think is her point but may not have been. which is fine, as it is a point regardless, but, well, this argument is now pointless, is all i'm trying to say. arguing over technicalities is tedious when things are somewhat unclear.

"attacked by an army of violins"--thank you, that image made my night and now I'll probably freak out random people the next time I go to the movies and the melodramatic music swells--I'll be doubled over laughing hysterically while a soldier dies nobly on the battlefield or whatever.

Actually, having a personal anon stalker is a thing around here - it's how you know you've made it big.

Uh well. In the vein of BioWare ships, I really adore FemShep/Garrus, but I try to distance myself from a good chunk of its fans. I met lots of great fans of the ship (plus reeeally good fanworks), but a whole lot more crazy ones (fan and fanworks included).

HEY, IT'S A THING THAT HAPPENS...OCCASIONALLY. Okay, more often than not everyone's AT LEAST half naked, and even if the main characters are clothed you're probably going to find someone naked in the background...BUT IT'S POSSIBLE. >.>

BUT CAN THE SUBALTERN SPEAK?!

I really wish people would stop feeling all oppressed because of people not liking anonymity. Hell, even my thread was just about anonymous insults, not the very concept of anonymity being useful.

Not that it stopped some people from thinking she's evil anyway. *eyeroll*

Maybe you can and that's cool. Like, really, that's neat.

It might be good to understand though that most humans can't do that. And try not to be a jerk because we can't.

(It kind of reminds me about how some humans are able to control their heartbeat but that's very rare...)

Re: David Bowie

I have watched that video so many times, I should probably be ashamed of myself.

Re: Abandoning shipdoms

[personal profile] sugar_spun 2013-03-01 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
Yep. I actually was convinced to ship them by a friend, but I won't actually admit I like their ship because of how crazy demanding their shippers are. I could swear I remember a thread about how BioWare should make it possible to have hybrid babies. Maybe that was Talimancer stuff...

Same with Thane/Shepard. I was always accepting of Thane dying of his illness, but you were NOT allowed to say that to his shippers.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-01 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
Actually, this has never been stated, the only thing Faust ever mentioned about it was that Cadance was originally intended to be a unicorn. This could mean that there were only ever supposed to be 2 or it could mean that the whole alicorn ascension thing was only meant for twilight later to make it more special or rare.

Given the nature of television shows it's entirely possible that Mrs. Faust never planned that far ahead or even had multiple conflicting ideas, people need to remember that T.V. is designed by committee and writers rarely ever plan things out to a concrete detailed end when they are just starting.

i don't even know what you're implying by a world free of context or critical thought.

and i said nothing of politeness.

you do have a quite startlingly simplistic thought progress, chardmonster. i know this because you post under that pseudonym. how unfortunate for you.

Re: Rec me sci-fi books, pleaaaaaase?

[personal profile] ill_omened 2013-03-01 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
Yiss.

My other rec was going to be Gibson.

Neuromancer first, but of his sci-fi works I'd actually say Idoru is better. It's just not nearly as influential as the former was.

Edit: And Neuromancer was originally planned and conceived as a standalone work. Doesn't count as a 'triology' in the way they're getting at.

lol

There is a difference between noticing someone has physical features that you personally find appealing and being attracted in the sense that you like them and want to be around them even if find their personalities gross.

IDK what kind of attraction OP is talking about but simply thinking 'Oh hmm that person has features I like' is pretty normal and not worth 'controlling' because it's a completely benign observation.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-01 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
Meh I say don't worry about it too much, the whole rival dynamic RD and AJ have going on isn't unique in fiction by a longshot, as long as you aren't ripping their characters off wholesale then it's a perfectly legitimate source on inspiration.

That said, I wish you the best of luck on your novel OP, I'm always a sucker for well-written romance, whether it's the main plot or merely a side story.

Ugh, I hated her as Grendel's mom...

Grendel's mother is a monster! Not a seductress. Not beautiful. She's a beast. I hate everything they changed about the story. Especially how they sexied it up. I was so excited to see it and so let down when I did.

"Do not forget meee, 24601!"

also also opening up to him about his past (ostensibly to make a point, BUT STILL he doesn't seem like the kind of guy to ever tell anyone anything about himself, especially the fact that his parents were *gasp* criminals)

Shippiiiiing~

Re: David Bowie

(Anonymous) 2013-03-01 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
But I am glad Tilda and Bowie have finally appeared in the same room, proving they really are two people.

I, on the other hand, am somewhat disappointed. Ah, well. Since they are indeed two different people, it was awesome to see them together. Although I was a bit saddened to realize they weren't playing each other, as was my first thought.

I don't go to BSN because it's a cesspool, but I've heard the Talimancers there are pretty... extreme. And if I've had bad Garrusmancer experiences outside of BSN, I don't want to see it on the inside.

The Thane romance is a ...touchy subject I find. He was one of my two romances (Garrus was the other as you might have guessed), and I was fine with him dying too. It's HOW it was all handled in ME3 that a lot of fans have a problem with. But that's a whole other rant. :)

Re: anon

The op of this subthread talked about wanting ideas to float around free and disconnected from specific voices, which is at best a nice lie because all ideas have sources and those sources must be thought about.

You said nothing about politeness but I am allowed to point at the largest mostly anonymous community on the internet to contextualize my thought process.

Also I literally make my living telling well meaning undergrads that they aren't thinking as deeply as they think they are and how they are looking at things outside their context, a practice with which I am sure you are quite familiar considering you thought that thing about my pseudonym was a sick burn.
