I think Harry/Draco far beats out Harry/Hermione in terms of horrifying photomanips. This means it's clearly the superior ship.

Well I can't really say much of it because I'm not too active in the fandom, but it seems to me like everybody on Tumblr ships it. idk, seems like just another case of shipping attractive white males in fandom to me.

But anyway, like I said, idk much about it /shrug

I read some of it as of late...I really only liked it because we went back to Hogwarts, not because of the pairing, but I don't like many - if any - HP ships to begin with.

I never got the appeal of Harry/Draco at all. Draco is a seriously unlikable little shit from the first moment we met him, and no, the sixth book didn't make him any more likeable.

Eh, I read H/D but I'm not like OMG MUST HAVE; I do read other ship-type fics. There is one dealbreaker - I won't read teacher/student fics.

I'm kind of curious which fic is "idolized" as in character. Sure, you can say "this is pretty in character," but when I say that, the caveat is that the author keeps the characters recognizable as variations of their canon counterparts and consistent within the story.

Draco doesn't have much of character, so if you are writing him post-war, you can do a lot of slashy things with him that can still seem in character.

But, crazy shippers are crazy... ship doesn't matter. Leather pants!Draco shippers have always been like what you describe.

Don't really know about HP but it does really suck when a ship is only popular because people want their favorite character to be paired up with someone who is "good enough" for them.
It's even worse when there's basically only one character deemed "good enough" and so fandom kinda turns into a massive fight over a single character's dick.

I've never seen any 'it's totally canon' behaviour from D/H shippers myself, or the Harry hatred you describe - but then again, I haven't even been in the periphery of the fandom for years now. But the ridiculous fanon characterisation that goes with the ship is actually super endearing to me, especially since Draco's character is unbearable otherwise.

I actually think Harry/Draco started out being the HP equivalent of Spuffy (for some shippers), even though I've always thought Draco was more like Andrew or Jonathan (minus the nerd factor) than Spike. Fandom Draco, however, is often written like Spike.

I'd be careful though because just as many people ship H/D knowing it's not canon, and also that Spike /=/ Draco.

ginny should have been pushed out of the way, but that's cause almost every other character dead or alive has more chem with harry than her.

But I get what you mean. I go through phases of complete apathy, complete dislike and some interest in this pairing, but admitting I dislike it can get me a bit of disbelief sometimes. Especially because I ship Albus Severus/Scorpius like burning, which many people see merely as a 'second chance for Harry/Draco omegawd' and not a pairing full of different possibilities in its own right.

Though I think it's a little unfair to say every H/D shipper believes it could be canon and enjoy all the OOCness. Granted there's a lot of batshit fans who do, and if you've come across a lot of them of course you would have horrible associations. But you can accept that there are H/Hr fans who ship it calmly and sensibly, so I don't see why you can't do the same for some H/D fans. "People in Z group can be different, but people in Y group are totally all the same" makes no sense to me, and that seems to be what you are saying.

Speaking of which, it is exactly 10 years this week since my not-so-innocent teenaged mind first encountered slash fanfic, specifically Harry/Draco, and found it strangely more compelling than Ron/Hermione. Is it weird that I know this?? Do I get some kind of chronic-slash-fangirl button??

I hate that ship. Always have, always will. In fact, I hate most of the main stream slash ships BECAUSE a majority of the fans are batshit insane.

But I also hate them because I can't see any of them in those specific pairs. I've never been able to see that pair, or Sirius/Lupin, or Snape/Lupin, or Snape/Harry (double, triple, quadruple ICK), what are others? Ron/Harry? Can't think of anyone else...

I also happen to like the het ships that are crazy, but I got into most of them late and only read them every great once in a blue moon.

Badically, HP is the only fandom I can't stand slash in./end ramble
