vague spoilers

I know it's slightly tangential, but can I just take this moment to vent about how poorly (imo) the whole Vox Populi plotline was handled? They just seem so...inconsequential, almost like an afterthought to the main plot. This was very disappointing because the trailers made it seem like the Founders/Vox conflict would be crucial to the game, but it's just kinda there. At a certain point I thought you would have to choose sides (after the "audition" part in Finkton), but nope. The main characters just seem so detached from the whole conflict; it basically just served as a backdrop to fight random enemies tbh.

And OP, I completely agree. I get a little weirded out when I see people supporting Daisy because, well, she was about to shoot a little boy in the head because he might grow up to be like his father. Seriously, wtf?

+1. I loved the game but it definitely wasn't quite what was advertised. More focus on Columbia and the Vox's storyline would've done the game a world of good.

I wish I could have seen what went on during the development process, because I'm really interested in knowing what the original plan for the game was. In one of the demos they showed posters of a young-looking Comstock, which obviously means core elements of the story would have been drastically altered, given what we know from the ending. I doubt we'll ever know, unfortunately.

It would be interesting, yea. I think the storyline took a huge turn somewhere (maybe a few huge turns) as well as some of the gameplay elements. It was probably a very different game in the earlier stages of production.

*still bitter about Songbird*

omg don't even get me started on Songbird. One of the biggest disappointments in the game, by far. In fact, there were a lot of underused characters, like Daisy, Fink, the Boys of Silence, etc. that I would have liked to see more of. I mean, I liked the game overall, but after the halfway point I felt like everything just began to fall apart. Hopefully the DLC will help flesh out some things!

yeah i agree with this whole little thread thingy, there were so many awesome elements of columbia that were underused as the game progressively became more and more about the alternate universe hullabaloo. i know i've said this before but as the game lost focus (or transitioned focus, i suppose), the feel of the game became more and more dream-like and hard to follow. even up to the end i was like, what is even happening?

i thought the boy of silence was going to be like one of the main enemies/characters/whatever in the whole game, tbh. and i really liked songbird and dreaded facing him in battle since he seemed hard as fuck to beat, but i still think his importance built up in the game to the point where it was almost disappointing to see him go the way he did (or at least without fighting him).

i think a lot changed because of the whole people-leaving-mid-production bit, i agree that it'd be really neat to see what they'd first had planned.

Yea, I was really looking forward to Songbird always being this threat and expected a huge, difficult boss battle and that... Was clearly not what happened. The Songbird is not to Infinite what the Big Daddy was to BioShock.

You're right. When I think about Infinite I'm still impressed and certainly have fond memories but no one stands out as a great antagonist imo. No one character really carried the gravitas that Andrew Ryan did. And for all the emphasis on the Boys of Silence being heavy hitters we barely see them! I was rooting for Daisy to, before... Certain things, and I would've liked to know more about her. (Maybe even work with her before things went to hell.) Or have the differences between the alt universe Daisy's explored a little more.

Idk. It was a good game, but it still wasted some potential.

From what I've heard, they had to scrap 'about five or six games worth of content'. They really WANTED to put in all the stuff they promised, but it was a problem of choosing between so many good ideas that unfortunately many of those good ideas had to be cut out or underused. It's a rare example of a game having too MUCH good bits in it.

i both agree and disagree? i thin kthe game would have been cool if they focused on columbia rather than the whole metaphysical universe stuff, but it would have been a completely different game, i think. the game was built such that every decision the player makes is inconsequential, but it extends beyond that - columbia itself becomes entirely secondary as a result.

i think the infinite team did this on purpose, because we - or at least i personally - went into the game expecting the mechanics to be the same as the first two bioshocks. we get alternate endings that vary depending on our ethical decisions throughout the process of exploring rapture. but in making those decisions in infinite unimportant, it leads us up to the point where - surprise - columbia isn't even the main focus. it takes us away from the expectations we brought into the experience and sets infinite apart from bioshock 1 and 2.

that being said though, i would have loved for infinite to focus on columbia and all its problems. columbia is really, really interesting, and they could have done so much with it if they'd chosen to. the vox populi were so important to the story of columbia - if columbia was made the focus, the vox would be one of the most vital aspects of the environment we're thrust into.

really, they already are, i think? everything is set up for columbia to be the focus of the story, it's just ripped out from underneath us. i hope they extend on columbia's story in another game (which i'm doubting will happen but i can dream).
