My uncle is an EMT in the city. He says it's chaos. EMTs have been doubling up people in the trucks because there are so many injured. The three hospitals they been delivering to are all standing room only.

And CNN isn't helping by throwing everything and anything out there and seeing what sticks even if turns out to be a 100% wrong. The JFK library was just a building fire not another attack. They have no one in custody. No one has claimed the bombing. This hasn't been classified as a foreign terrorist attack.

My personal opinion is it's a homegrown, "True Patriot" psychopath. To pick Boston on Tax Day? It's too much of a coincidence.

Been an uptick of those in the last couple years. I'm reminded of the Clinton era.

Yeah, I don't want to come to conclusions without knowing much, but Boston on Tax Day is kind of suspect...

I keep hearing different stories about the JFK fire. Fifty percent say it was an unrelated fire, the other half says it was a related bomb.

My personal opinion is it's a homegrown, "True Patriot" psychopath. To pick Boston on Tax Day? It's too much of a coincidence.

When I was walking through the crowd of people leaving, I saw a group of three guys carrying signs with "Boston will burn for its sins" and apocalyptic, end-times warnings on them. It's entirely likely.

I was downtown when it happened, but far enough away from the finish line that I didn't feel or hear the blasts. It's been insane; for two hours afterward, there wasn't a time where you couldn't hear sirens or not see an ambulance. All my friends and loved ones in the area are fine, luckily.

hope you are all doing alright, fs.

i really do not understand why people hurt and kill random people like this.

if you get apathetic and jaded like i do at times like this, the next time you are outside or on public transportation imagine what it would be like to really love the stranger sitting/standing nearby you. imagine that they are a good person and make up a sympathetic backstory for them. i dunno, it helps me somehow. humanization is good for the soul.

I don't know anyone from the Boston area but it's always horrible to hear news like this. Hope everyone here is alright.

The world seems to get more terrifying by the day tbh.

My boyfriend's step-sister used to live in Boston and run marathons, and after hearing about this, we're both just really glad that she's across the country now, otherwise we'd be pretty worried. (We just checked, and before the marathon, she'd tweeted that she'd give anything to be in Boston for the run. We're really glad she wasn't!)

Our hearts go out to everybody affected by it. It's really freaky being so close to something like this, even several degrees removed. I can't imagine how everybody else closer to it is feeling :(

Took me awhile to get a hold of my family in the area (one of my step brothers normally runs the race - he didn't this year), but them and my online friends in that area are all safe. I wish everyone could say the same. D:

What should the response be?

[personal profile] tei 2013-04-16 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
One of the things I was thinking about today in response to this was... what do you think is the correct response is from a government to something like this? As a response to 9/11, we got sweeping an occasionally paranoid updates to airport security, with some good effects (restricting what dangerous objects can be brought on a plane) and some bad ones (searching screaming toddlers for explosives). What can we do in response to something like this? What steps can we take to decrease the likelihood of it happening again? I have no idea. I can't think of anny kind of logical, enforcable policy that could have stopped this from happening. I mean, obviously it will be easier to see what went wrong when we know who's responsible and why, but it still seems that there should be some good reason why you simply aren't able to blow up a bomb at a public event. But there really isn't :/

Opinions? If you were the president, how would you want to respond?

For fuck's sake. Can we stop comparing tragedies, please? No matter how true or false O HURR NO ONE CARES ABOUT ANYTHING OUTSIDE AMERICAAAA actually is, a lot of people here have obviously been affected. It's a bombing. In a city. A lot of FSers are Americans- that doesn't mean no one gives a flying fuck about anyone else's life, and even if it did, today's not the day to start whinging.

Twitter image causing a stir...

(Anonymous) 2013-04-16 04:35 am (UTC)(link)
One of people taking pictures of the event accidentally caught a picture of a man walking on the roof of a building right over the bombed area. It's so damn eerie, since he doesn't seem at all effected by what it going on. :/
