Boy, they are cute. And I have read plenty of stories without them being shipped. To be fair most are either A/U, Thorin/Bilbo, or oneshots.

I'm sorry OP, but I just always laugh at the "I don't mind X, I just wish there was less X" formulation. Because you do, actually, mind X at least a little. And hey, that's fine, you're entitled to your opinion (I don't ship incest either), but like everything else in fandom that you do or don't like, there's going to be other people who don't or do like it.

I mean, for everyone who feels like you do, there's someone going "Well I usually don't ship incest, but THIS is perfect!"

I'd say that it is perfectly fine to like a pairing but still wish there was less of it around. One of my fandoms has always been completely dominated by That One Pairing. I used to like it a lot back in the day and I still think it's cute. I wish there was less of it because it utterly overshadows everything else. I'm sure a good 70% of all fic posted centers on it, and even fic that isn't centered on it will frequently make some allusion to it anyway. It's all but impossible to find the characters involved paired with anyone else.

It isn't the pairing that bothers me. It's that the fandom can't see beyond it.

I think OP's point was more that they want *more* non-shippy brother fic, not necessarily less of the shippy stuff. They just want some options and variety.

OP: I'm with you. Love me some durincest but I also love them as just brothers, plus I kind of ship Kili/Bilbo too so more of that would be nice.

That's funny, to me the fandom seems to be overrun with Thorin/Bilbo, and Fili/Kili is like a distant second. I'm not a huge fan of it but I'd love to see more if it meant less Bagginshield, which I loathe.

And I haven't noticed as many modern AUs about them as a lot of other pairings seem to get, and that alone is good enough for me. I would take fucktons more Fili/Kili fics over one more modern AU of my favorite rare pairing.

Yeah, I would actually take more Fili/Kili if it meant less modern AU. Maybe I made a secret about the wrong thing. :|a I guess I'm just full of hatred for a lot of things in this fandom (although I don't actually hate Fili/Kili, I just am tired of it seeming to be in the background of every fic I read).

I can totally understand your frustrations with Bagginshield because I feel so many writers completely ruin any potential the ship has by writing Thorin as a controlling jerkass and Bilbo as completely spineless. However, there are some really well written Bagginshield fics out there if you ever want to give the pairing a chance again....

Alas, I do miss the days when Bofur/Bilbo was more popular.

well tbf Thorin/Bilbo is actually the fandom's OTP. Fili/Kili come in second.

Yeah, the amount of incest fic does get slightly annoying after a while.

I guess it's the good old "they look hot together" thing. I keep underestimating how important that is to people....

I kinda ship them but I'm tired of them being a side-pairing in so many fics too.

Still, that's not nearly as annoying to me than when every single character in the fic seems to be paired off with someone. (I might stop reading one of my favorites for this very reason. I'm not sure I like one side-pairing in that fic and they keep getting more and more attention.)

Oh well. *shrugs* I'm behind on Hobbit fic right now anyway.

I'm not an avid shipper but I read it, mostly because I want more fic and gen is rather rare.

Oh, that annoys me too. My ships aren't always the most popular ones, so I'm always glad to find fic for them, but way too often there's random side pairings in there to hook everyone up, and that does nothing for me. I started reading a long WIP for one rare pairing, and I was enjoying it, but now that it's way into the story (with no end in sight) there's two more pairings that have been thrown in there and I'm not into either of them. It's sad to give up on it after sticking with it for so long, but I also don't like being expected to accept all these other pairings while the one I was there for in the first place gets overshadowed.

I am getting a bit tired of every other fic having Dwalin/Ori as a side pairing. It's kinda cute, but I personally prefer Dwalin/Nori more (I got reading Axe and Dirty Deeds and am firmly a shipper now).

I think my brain is broken for slash because I am Korean. Boys here are very open about being physically affectionate with each other--straight guys who are close friends will hold hands, hug, sit on each others laps, even a peck on the cheek. Girls with girls is the same. So Fili and Kili seem normal to restrained, to me, lol

Yeah, I'm with you. Of course, it's not like anyone's forcing me to read it - although I have stumbled across some fics where it wasn't warned for and then unexpectedly appeared partway through - but it does seem to show up a lot as a background pairing in fic that otherwise looked interesting to me. If people are having fun with it, I'm happy for them! Ship away! But here's not a lot of Hobbit fic that does anything for me, so it's disappointing when I see something that does look interesting only to realize it has Fili/Kili in.

Although what I really want most from the Hobbit fandom is some good, plotty gen, so I'm probably just destined for disappointment all around.

I keep wanting to say 'I've seen a lot of fics with GEN Fili and Kili in them' and then I remember that most of those are Thorin/Bilbo which really doesn't help if you don't ship them either. But then I read both Fili/Kili ship and GEN fic so I don't really notice the lack of it. I don't mind them being a side-pairing so much but I rarely see it work well, I imagine that some writers really do just happen to ship F/K as well as the fic's main pairing(if I wrote fic I would probably have side F/K a lot of the time, or they'd be really close bros if the shipping aspect was out of place) but a lot of the time I wonder if people have thrown it in there for more hits.

I have the same problem with incest shipping. I don't care if people have that fetish, I just wish they would stop pointing to characters who just act like normal siblings and saying "That's not normal, they're in love."

While I am very much an incest shipper (yes, Durincest is my second OTP), sometimes I love a good brother fic as well.

I have a great fondness for some reason for fic that has Fíli getting married to a nice dwarf girl and having children that Kíli is an adorable uncle to.

Actually, no. 1 favourite fic (a gen fic too!) has practically that, with more awesome, and now Kíli's in a position where he's practically raising one of Fíli's kids.
