I think having the Doctor regenerate at the end of every series would be a bit predictable and it might make it more difficult when developing characters and relationships.

I wouldn't be opposed, though, especially since it means I wouldn't hear wailing from Tennant fangirls every time Matt Smith is on TV.

Oh my godtiss, are they still doing that? And I thought the Eccleston stans were bad....

Oh come on, why can't we all agree that 9, 10 and 11 are all awesome and get on with our lives?

(Anonymous) 2013-04-29 01:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I hardly watch the show (but I really want to) and I agree with this, they're all awesome and the fact people fight over who's better makes me a bit sad. (I have tumblr friends who watch so I learn from there. ^_^)

Not everyone who hates Eleven loves Ten.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-28 08:47 pm (UTC)(link)
And some of us are equal-opportunity haters when it comes to Nu!Who.

HARD TO BELIEVE

Also some of us loved Ten but hate Eleven for reasons that have nothing to do with missing David Tennant.

This. It's like people forget the whole show changed, not just the actor, not just the Doctor's appearance.

Yeah. Instead of rotating Doctors more frequently, it might be a better idea to rotate show runners more frequently.

Agreed. It would have been easier for me to adjust to Eleven's personality if it at least felt like I was still watching the same show. It didn't help that I disliked Amy but I've disliked companions before and still enjoyed the show.

Instead you'll get to listen to biitter Matt Smith fans every time his replacement is on screen.

da

This. I thought the default state of DW fandom was to have a portion mourning the previous regeneration while viciously hating the new one, and this has been going on more or less since One became Two?

lol. Yep.

True, but Tennant has a couple of things going for him:

1. Since Eccleston only lasted one season, by the time Doctor Who really got going, it was Ten who ended up being their first Doctor and it's pretty common for most people that their first Doctor is their favorite Doctor.
2. He plays pretty well into fantasies--his weirdness is a lot more approachable and less alien than Eleven, and he's also probably the most classically handsome Doctor after Eight (and even then, I think his face is more personally appealing to most people).
3. He's lasted longer than the other three (although Eleven will be just as long by the end of this season), and his seasons were stronger.

Okay, I can sort of get that in general. It didn't work that way for me: Ten was technically my first Doctor in that his was the first episode I saw, but I went almost immediately back to Classic Who and fell in love with a couple of the older doctors. My favourite Nu!Who Doctor is Nine, Ten and Eleven just got ... increasingly OTT and angsty for my tastes.

Mind you, I think the move from Five to Six must have gotten similiar reactions, back in the day. I wonder what old school Who fandom would have been like if they'd had internet at the time.

Well I don't think 1 applies to me, I think my first Doctor was Three or Four, and out of old!Who my favourite is a toss-up between Five and Seven, while new!Who it Ten or Eleven.

But I don't disagree that it applies to a lot of people. I'm just one of the ones it doesn't. Maybe it's because I first experienced DW through reruns.
