This is actually the second Gabriel secret I've been suspected of. Good to know my reputation soars.

My favorite reply someone made to the Gabriel secrets (? it was the same actor) is [personal profile] chardmonster's GIF of a tiger falling into a ravine.

I love this comment. I love it when people trash Gabriel, period.

Oh Gabriel. Why do I adore your assholish ass? You are a bag of dicks and I love you.

Well, at the risk of being the pedantic Debby Downer of the group, you don't actually love Gabriel. At best, you love the idea of being in love with the him that you've created in your head, but he's not real and you've never actually interacted with him, so your feelings are to actual affection the equivalent to wincing in sympathy when you see someone get kicked in the balls, vs. being kicked in the balls.

So while yes, you're not going to find someone in real life that makes you feel the fictional "in love" that you've created in your head between you and Gabriel, you will most likely find actual love someday. It's messier, more complicated, and infinitely more frustrating, since it involves another flawed human, as opposed to perfect fantasy, but the cuddling's better, the sex is usually better, and sometimes involves someone making you breakfast.

Aww, OP! It's okay, we write stories and draw pictures of these characters, and I bet most of us have had a crush on a fictional character at one point or another.

Adorable secret is adorable.

There are two types of people in this world: People who do go on to find somebody IRL and people who cling to fictional characters out of fear or whatever. Only you know which type you are.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-02 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
And you are an asshole.

Out of curiosity, what would you consider to be a "non-asshole" serious reply to "I'm in love with a fictional character, who's also a terrible person?"

So you find a guy who kills people for his own petty amusement attractive?

I'll never get why this character is so woobified. Sure, he's a great character in terms of having an interesting story. But he isn't a good guy by any means. He's a petty asshole who manages to do the right thing one time and dies for it. Which doesn't change all the other horrible things he does.

Aaaand here's another comment I would love to broadcast to Tumblr (too bad it'd just be ignored). You're absolutely right. Can't speak for OP obviously, but he is played by an attractive white guy, and the character himself has a sobstory. People are into that kind of thing. I think the fact that he's funny and has style also make him attractive to the majority of other people.

I do wish people would stop glorifying him and glossing over his misdeeds though. That's just problematic, and worrying.

I think because a lot of the woobiefyers don't view his victims as victims and to be fair I am not shedding any tears over the guy who beat his wife or the frat boy who slowed dance with an alien.

The others I agree he went overboard with.

I think this is so because compared to the rest of the characters on the show, especially with his siblings, he doesn't seem that bad. And for some reason there is always a moral gray area when it comes to trickster characters. They can get away with stuff that the white hats would be looked down on. I think because for tricksters, the targets of their pranks usually deserve punishment. (Though not as harsh as the one's Gabriel handed out.) But I think there's a balancing factor when it comes to trickster characters. That in world of chaos, they are more chaotic and yet usually balance things out.

I know I just like him because he's a scrawny little guy with big golden brown puppy-dog eyes. There's nothing deep or in-character about it. XD

(Anonymous) 2013-05-03 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe you should try and focus on just why you like him so much. The unpredictability and sense of humor, the inner conflict and basic loyalty? Think about it, and think about those qualities in relation to the kinds of people you'd like to date in real life.

No, fictional crushes can't come true, but they can help us learn things about ourselves and what's important to us - and better our chances of finding real love. Good luck!

I have thought the same thing, OP. Not about Gabriel (though he is super awesome) but about other characters I have completely adored (icon is relevant).

Well,Gabriel is a terribly cute thing,but I wouldn't like to see his "this-person-is-bad-let-me-kill-it" part.

He's funny and could be the caring type but he's also a mass murderer, who despite taking the blow for humanity, still finds amusement in messing with Sam until he became a merciless hunter.

I heart Gabriel. I think he's an awesome character.

I'm a big fan of the trickster characters anyway.

Good luck on the significant other search!
