It looks like the font the Doctor Who franchise uses for all things Dalek.

It's like, Legend of the Hidden Temple or something font.

OP

That's why I chose it, I was looking through my downloaded fonts, and jumped at the chance to use one that made me feel like a Blue Barracuda.

Oh, right on! That's just what it reminded me of. :)

Yeah, I can fully understand pirating just to flip off a creator, especially for shitty opinions like banning fanfic.

Personally, the only time where I pirate without regret is when they refuse to export out of Japan/US. Fuck you too, guys.

>>Personally, the only time where I pirate without regret is when they refuse to export out of Japan/US. Fuck you too, guys<<

Seriously, this. It's their own fault, so why care?

It gets even worse when it would be super-easy to export it, but they dismiss it because they don't think there's a market. Really. There's NO ONE outside the US worth your time. Yeah, no. *YOINK*

(Anonymous) 2013-05-04 09:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Yup. I'm perfectly willing to pay--in fact, I do; I paid for Hulu Japan for a while (I live in Japan, but I'm a US citizen) and currently pay for Amazon Prime--but if you're not going to let me watch stuff I pay for simply because I'm living across an ocean, I'll pirate or watch illegally (I also pay for a VPN to disguise my address) and not feel the least bit guilty about it.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-04 08:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Are there really so many creators who ban fanfic?
Makes me feel uncomfortable to hear that more people than a few crazy authors do this shit :/

[personal profile] blunderbuss 2013-05-04 08:47 pm (UTC)(link)
There's not MANY, comparatively, but there's a few. Quite a few of them are just gestures to disassociate themselves from smut, especially if their product is marketed towards kids.

However, there ARE some SUPER crazy authors who loathe the very notion of fanfic because how very dare you presume that you can improve on their glorious work you plebeian.

"Warner Bros. briefly tried to get rid of Harry Potter Slash Fic. This went nowhere."

I think that, and the fact that there's nothing beside Anne Rice and Laurell K. Hamilton's sections but their names are probably my favorite things about that page.

Warner Bros. briefly tried to get rid of Harry Potter Slash Fic

Haha how would they even go about doing this? That's like trying to stop a tsunami using a tarp and sticks.

Petty humans! Believing they can get rid of the Potter slash!

There's actually a whole website for LKH-based fanfic. Even though I read her books, I love that people are writing it despite her wishes. I just hope she never finds out about it.

'[George R. R. Martin]'s major objection [to fanfiction] is, apparently, that fan fiction is bad practice for an aspiring writer, the equivalent of doing paint-by-numbers for an aspiring artist.'

W o w. Respect level dropped.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-04 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
hm i wonder if there's a source for that?

i think i remember a quote where he was making some weird fucking metaphor about dragon hoards but i hadn't heard that, but yeah wow

Most of those authors you can write off, but I'm looking at Anne McCaffrey and Marion Zimmer Bradley and I feel a little bit scared.

I just read the Charlaine Harris page, and I'm confused about her objections (though I don't think she shouldn't have a right to object. It's not going to change anything, but that doesn't mean she shouldn't be able to disapprove).

Anyway, this is from her site:

Q. Can I post my cool story about Sookie on this site?

A. No, and I’ll tell you why. No fanfic can appear on this website. Not only does it make me feel strange to have other people use my characters, but there are legal issues to consider.

Here’s an example:

Enthusiastic Reader: Wouldn’t it be great if Sookie adopted Hunter?

Would be okay.

TooEnthusiasticReader: Wouldn’t it be great if Hunter came to Sookie’s house and said, “Aunt Sookie, can I play in your attic?” And then Sookie let him, and Hunter came down and said, “Did you know there’s a ghost in your attic?”

This is NOT okay.

Am I the only person who has no idea what she's trying to say here?
