It's not about you (and your preferences). I think it's perfectly fine if you like (fictional) violence.
But many of us (and especially Europeans looking at American media) feel like there is this huge double standard when it comes to violence versus nudity in terms of both rating and perception.
I do think it's nuts that 20 people being shot in the head is "okay" for & 13-year old to see, but OH NOES A NIPPLE AVERT YOUR CHILDREN'S GAZE.
Not all nudity is sexual, and a lot of media is simply unwilling (or not allowed to) make that distinction.
IMHO, it's less damaging for kid to see a boob than live-action evisceration. And THAT'S generally what people are pointing out.
If you, as an adult, or almost-adult, enjoy a bloody gore extravaganza, knock yourself out. The criticism isn't about individual tastes, but about cultural tendencies.

That makes me want to vomit.

If a recall correctly there was a scene in Sucker Punch where the main character was supposed to seduce and sleep with the antagonist willingly.
But they weren't allowed to do that without getting higher rating. BUT they were allowed to do a scene where he rapes her and keep the rating. They pretty much said fuck you to that, and left out the scene entirely.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-09 01:58 am (UTC)(link)Minor error: He only tries to rape her. Not a major difference in the tone of the film, but your argument becomes "Attempted Rape is fine but sort-of consensual sex is not", while this doesn't really devaule your point about the fucked up standards too much, I do think the fact that no-one got penetrated is the key point in deciding the rating

Maybe this is only true in my head, but I always thought it was because "a realistic rape scene is meant to horrify, not titillate, so that is why it's rated lower."
Because even if the act itself is sexual in nature, it's not really meant to be attractive... so it follows all other forms of violence in having lower age rating.

Same with cursing. It always boggles my mind that Season 3 of Supernatural is rated FSK18 (NC-17) in Germany (my guess is for Dean's death scene, the other seasons are rated FSK16) - but they're not even allowed to say "fuck"?! You're really more concerned about a word than about one of the main characters getting ripped apart in gorey detail?! Different cultures and all, but that just makes no sense to me.
