Yeah, man, I don't know, I'm getting about as tired of the anti-SJW crusaders droning on and on about their oppression by the "mean girls" as I am of the actual SJWs themselves. Anybody else with me on this one, or is it just me?

[personal profile] jaybie_jarrett 2013-05-16 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
uh...the mean girls who publicly post people's addressed , tell people to kill themselves and tell other people of their group what to think, yeah.

I know i'm not against the things SJW's stand for....its how they stand for them. People have to actually abide by standards they set for other people. The SJWs need to learn that they're not going to get excused from everything because "oh we're doing activism punch a hole in our good deed punchcard please? Yay we're internet famous"
ariakas: (man walks on fucking moon)

[personal profile] ariakas 2013-05-16 03:08 am (UTC)(link)
Eh, posting people's real names and locations has it's place. The internet is not anonymous, and you can't go around spewing racial slurs and expect it not to get back to you. Telling people to kill themselves is 4chan levels of puerile, of course, but when Gawker posted the real names and schools of a bunch of college students on Twitter who called the president a nigger, and several of them lost scholarships as a result, I did not feel sorry for them in the least and I think Gawker was 100% in the right.

Of course, using activism as an excuse to bully is horrible, but we get that. That shit is out there. But there is also truly harmful, racist and misogynist shit out there that should be called out and rallied against. We also get that appropriation is bad. Everyone gets this. Now it's an endless cycle of help help I'm being oppressed! Someone said something problematic! Someone said something I said was problematic!

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

[personal profile] jaybie_jarrett 2013-05-16 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
I'm just interested in getting the fakers out The fakers and the ones who abuse the cause are the ones who need to be called out. They are who, at least I call "SJWs"

I guess what I'm saying is, yeah real activism is good but we need to let people know that they can't discredit these important causes by being asses.

We need to call out the people who tell others "You can't say you're depressed you're white" or "lol men's tears" in response to a girl posting about how she hates "men's tears" because she knows guys who have been abused raped and have eating disorders.
ariakas: (Default)

[personal profile] ariakas 2013-05-16 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
"The fakers" is an interesting way of putting it, since if I had a nickel for every time an anti-SJW railed about being oppressed by terrible, bullying SJWs the actual thread went like "racist/misogynist slur" --> "that's racist/misogynist!" --> "no it isn't stupid SJWs!" --> "check your privilege!" --> "you told me to check my privilege?! you're racist/sexist against white people/men!" I'd be considerably better off.

Then it devolves into shit-flinging on both sides. If rape/death threats are made against the SJW, it becomes a sterling example of how minorities are oppressed to repost time after time; if rape/death threats are made against the anti-SJW, it becomes an example of how SJWs don't "really" mean it and just want to bully people and said link gets posted time after time.

Even better! Anti-SJWs who jump into the conversation and use terms like "lol men's tears" or "you sound white" in an attempt to mock or discredit the SJWs/SJWs making hyperbolically racist or sexist statements to do the same. I've seen both too many times and it's fucking pathetic.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-16 04:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I think what they were trying to get at is people who are plugged into social issues being against SJW behavior.

Privileged bigots go far beyond just being anti-SJW, since they are basically focusing on a vocal and visible mouthpiece for very important issues that they are dismissing and lashing out against as a whole.

After all, if they're the ones flinging that particular brand of shit, you know that there's no one and nothing that they're going to find "reasonable" at this point in their lives.

It's a big part of why civil criticism and debate about this issue cannot really exist, since on top of being sensitive, justified and important disagreement is also automatically labeled as derailment/tone argument/internalized bigotry/etc. and lumped in with the people who are crying about being oppressed by "reverse racism" and "heterosexual erasure" -- because that definitely is the other half of the landslide.

I agree though, it's exhausting and depressing all the way around. More so because it also doubles the burden of what needs to be accomplished.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-16 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
You're not alone. Esp. since SJW are usually on tumblr--very, very easy to avoid (at least in my experience). Here, the whining about them never seems to stop.

Back when this comm was on LJ there was a big stink about SJWs versus anti-SJWs that went on for months, but when the comm moved to DW, it was mostly just the anti-SJWs that came with it. I'm starting to get the impression that this makes it a kind of "safe space" for people to gripe about SJWs without risk of much opposition, so we get a secret like this every. Fucking. Week. If not every couple of days.

While I've found the SJWs easy to avoid too, the anti-SJWs are impossible to avoid if you want to read f!s, these days.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-16 04:49 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I've been a lurker since the LJ days, and the hot topics then (Hetalia and K-Pop wank especially come to mind) would usually fade pretty fast.

With SJWs, though, everyone seems to jump at the chance to write their own personal rants that very rarely say anything new. Granted, their points are valid, but are already VERY well established and agreed upon. Every time SJWs are mentioned, the comments become an echo chamber.

It's cool to finally talk to a member, though! You and Visp are my faves.

Another thing that really grinds my gears is how little the SJW/anti-SJW spats have to do with fandom. Even if something fandom-related was the inciting incident, what it devolves into belongs on an entirely different forum.

It's cool to talk to you too, anon! You know, the, uh, legions of you. Keep on keeping on.

What makes it mildly (very mildly) amusing for me is that a number of anons were against moving to Dreamwidth because they saw it as some kind of SJW haven. Probably because of the [community profile] scans_daily vs. Gail Simone clusterfuck a while back.

Half of me thinks the wank is funny. The other half is just tired and wants to crawl under a rock.

So I'm halfway there with you.

[personal profile] ariakas 2013-05-16 04:14 am (UTC)(link)
Crawl under the rock! You can still laugh there. We have popcorn. And ennui.

One question. Is it a pretty rock?
ariakas: (Default)

[personal profile] ariakas 2013-05-16 04:28 am (UTC)(link)
It's a rhinestone. It's pretty and tacky, for a reasonable price.

[personal profile] forgottenjester 2013-05-16 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
You had me at tacky. You win. I will join you under the rock.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-16 05:21 am (UTC)(link)
Yup.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-16 07:53 am (UTC)(link)
when the SJWs are causing actual minorities to feel unsafe about discussing issues relevant to them? they're a problem. i've seen a trans* person get death threats for daring to say that assuming a character was trans* just because they crossdress is offensive because it equates gender identity to manner of dress - which is an issue that is very real and very relevant to trans* people.
ariakas: (Default)

[personal profile] ariakas 2013-05-16 08:14 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I've seen people get death threats for suggesting that Modern Warfare 3 is better than Battlefield 3, or that Subaru belongs with Kamui and not Seishirou. I've personally been threatened with gang rape for spamming the SOPMOD's grenade launcher down corridors near spawn points.

This is the internet. "I've seen one side of an argument threaten the other side with death/rape/sex with their mother for making a relatively innocuous suggestion, and that means that side is wrong and bad and full of nothing but bullies forever!!!" does not hold water.

OP

(Anonymous) 2013-05-16 03:47 pm (UTC)(link)
but when they do it frequently it's a problem. Real people-people that the SJWs are claiming to be defending-are getting hurt by them. That isn't cool. If you claim to defend someone you shouldn't abandon them when they tell you that they think differently.

Just because this is the internet is not an excuse to not hold people to a standard. No one is saying SJ is wrong but that bullying behavior is wrong. I swear whenever any criticism of the SJWs/SJs pops up a bunch of people get all mad and assume that the person is saying that the causes are bad, even when the statement doesn't even come close to saying that.

I specified the SJWs the radical people. The people who yell and threaten and hurt. Not SJ all by itself.

But everyone on the planet (practically) agrees that bullying is wrong. Bullies suck! And they are in every community, especially on the internet. Including the vocal anti-SJW contingent, who I've seen bully people right here on this forum, then cry bloody murder when the "SJWs" do it to them.

So what the fuck exactly is the point of the "help help I'm being oppressed by the SJWs, those evil horrible bullies!" when you mean "gee, bullies suck".

Yeah, that's, uh, not exactly a secret there, champ. Mean people suck. News at 11.

Re: OP

(Anonymous) 2013-05-16 04:16 pm (UTC)(link)
the problem I have is that in a lot of places I keep seeing people act like "It's okay for innocent people to get yelled at and told to go die because of the guilty ones"

This whole secret is meant as nothing but "being an activist is great is great , but it's no excuse to be a jerk and you won't get away with things because you decide to call yourself an activist".

Would you quit fucking saying that I'm claiming to be 'oppressed'. I never said that. All I said was "quit acting like assholes" to a small faction of people who are in fact acting like assholes (ie: Redd , Riley and the people who act like them and yell at everyone they come in contact with who doesn't agree)

Hell, I didn't even target all of SJ ,just the group that was the loudest and rudest, but still somehow kept getting people saying "oh they mean well" . I'm not at all saying that I'm "oppressed" by activists as a whole at all. You used that word, not me.

You might not have, but plenty of other anti-SJWs surrrrrreee have.

All I said was "quit acting like assholes" to a small faction of people who are in fact acting like assholes

Yep, assholes suck too. Like bullies, and mean people. And, unfortunately, every single group or community - from SJWs to anti-SJWs to games to mpreg authors - has assholes, bullies, and mean people.

SJWs use advocacy to excuse that behaviour; anti-SJWs use "freedom of speech" or "it's just a joke" or "have a right to my opinion" to excuse that behaviour. Shitty people, all around.

Why am I supposed to take your side on this one? Because SJWs have some mean people that suck? F!S itself has mean people who suck. I'm not going to rail against the community, then go "oh, sorry, I said F!S but what I meant was the mean people on F!S".

Because, no shit comrade, mean people are bad.
