I...don't get how you can dislike children but still want your own? They're still going to be annoying, disgusting little shits - the only difference is that they'll be your problem.

Thank you so much for your concern.
My children are going to be planned and "no accidents". I personally think you have to be responsible when having sex.
My children will grow up in a non-smoking, non-drinking, no drugs and non-violent environment - in a new-built house and a garden. We also own 2 cats so they can learn how to live with animals, something I couldn't have.
We have no financial problems and I am willing to shut down my career for some years because I would rather raise them by myself than putting the little children into a day care, like some other parents do. I want to cook them healthy meals, look on their weight and do the homework together. If they show interest in learning how to play a musical instrument, I will support them. I have a Shamisen they can play with, too. My husband enjoys railway stuff and classical music, so there might be a chance our children will find interest in it too. We both like traveling and taking photos.
They will grow up bilingual at least and if they want, they can go later to an university in my home country or anywhere else (I don't force them nor will I judge them for their career choices, not like my own parents).

Are you or the others able to give this to your children? No? Then shut up.

Do you know you only have about five years left to have even children before you have to start worrying about birth defects and prematurity and stuff like that? You've got a pretty complicated ridiculously detailed life plan here and let me tell you hardly anyone gets all of their shit together before they have children.

You sound like the perfect helicopter parent ngl, I mean have you ever entertained the idea that if you have children they are going to be individual people who may not be keen on this lifestyle you have already chosen for them

idk, I've known people who love their own children to death but aren't really all that fond of other people's kids. It's like how a lot of parents are perfectly fine with changing their own kid's disgusting diaper or they laugh it off when their child throws up in their mouth but if it's someone else's child, then it becomes vile. It's an evolutionary thing.

I understand that that happens, but if you already dislike children, I don't see why you'd chance liking your own when you don't need to? Seems a bit reckless.

Like the anon above me said, it's an evolutionary thing. With some unfortunate exceptions I grant you, most parents would lay down their lives for their kids, but obviously they wouldn't be (as) willing to do that for some shrieking hellspawn they've never laid eyes on before.

Meh I think people get a lot more chill about kids in general when they become parents (totally my own theory I might be wrong) but that doesn't mean they fall head over heels in love with every kid ever ... neither does it mean they hate every other kid but their own.

I think all sides in this discussion might be looking at things from too either/or of a perspective. The real world is shades of grey, yadda yadda yadda. I would also be willing to bet most if not all of us on the thread don't have kids, and therefore have no idea what we're talking about, not really. (I include myself in this.)

I love kids (well some), but I am not bothered by people that don't like them.
I used to hate mobile phones, but now I got one and it is useful when waiting in a line! Though I still get regularly angry with it.

I guess I get that. It's kind of like how I enjoy being around children a lot but I would rather set myself on fire than have one of my own. For you there's a difference between wanting to parent and wanting to be around some random person's child and I can understand that.

Dude I am so sorry for the others who are being so rude to you. I totally understand how you could not really like other people's kids yet still want (and love) your own. It's not that strange of a concept actually.

Eh, I get it. I adore and love my child more than I ever thought I was capable, even though I wish I had her under better circumstances (I got pregnant fairly young). But I just don't really enjoy being around other people's kids. Hell, if you saw me around a group of children then you probably wouldn't even guess that I'm a mother because I'm so awkward around them. I'm not an asshole to them or anything and I don't wish them any harm or ill will but I'm just...not really interested I guess. It's not that I think my own child is objectively any better than someone else's kid (as was suggested above). She's pretty much the same as any of her peers and I imagine that people outside of my family don't think she's especially, well, special. But in my heart, like any other parent, I think she's the most important person in the world

My sister has kids and I really love them. Someday if I adopt my own, there's no question in my mind that I'd come to love them, too.

But I do not care about or want to deal with children I have no connection to. It's just not a thing I enjoy. Eventually it may come with the territory, and context is key, but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.
