You think THIS film of all films is flawless?

SMH.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-09 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Whats your problem with Lilo and Stitch OP????????

(Anonymous) 2013-07-10 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
Or How to Train Your Dragon...

(Anonymous) 2013-07-10 05:40 am (UTC)(link)
Not OP, but I fucking hated the two alien dudes in Lilo and Stitch.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-09 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I wouldn't call the film flawless, but the music certainly is.

It's not a *horrible* film it - it's one of the few John Waters films [along with Serial Mom and Cry Baby] I like - but...I can't help but suspect that a number of people went looking at his other stuff and...yeah. That probably ended badly in some cases.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-10 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
This is the musical remake of it. Not the John Waters version. Which is better than the musical remake.

Let Ol' noodly fix this for you.

They gave a roll that should belong to an older plus sized woman (all the things you don't see hollywood roles go to) to JOHN TRAVOLTA.

You're welcome. All movies are flawed.

Re: Let Ol' noodly fix this for you.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-10 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
Well, an older plus-sized transvestite, if we're going to maintain tradition. (You have seen the original, right?)

The flaw that leapt out for me is that Travolta was too much of a cultist asshole to kiss a man, so after a terrific number celebrating the joys of middle-aged love, we cut away before the kiss in a painfully obvious way. Jerked me completely out of the narrative.

The role is traditionally played by a man, even on Broadway.

Actually dear noodly, that element has been present in the stage version since it's creation and so was naturally brought on into the movie version. Now you know!

(Anonymous) 2013-07-10 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
Actually, I'm... pretty sure that is always, and has always been, a drag role. Starting with the fabulous Divine in 1988. So.

Yeah, no, that role was never meant to be played by a woman. But if you want to argue that the role should have gone to an actual older, plus sized transvestite a la the original, I'd totally back you. But don't go hating on the original John Waters-Devine combo. This Baltimorean will fight you.

John Travolta in fat drag grosses me out a lot more than Divine eating dog do in Pink Flamingos.

Since people shot down Noodly's point, let's try again: how about because the revolution for interracial TV started because of a white woman rather than any of the characters of color?

My point remains valid and ya'll are sexist.

But you're reaching a bit. How do you break into the system without somebody on the inside helping? What, were they supposed to break in?

Besides, I saw the original. They were black in their souls, so it's okay.

Not sure I'd call it flawless, but I just love this movie. It came out right around the time my dad was in the hospital (he's all OK now), and my mom, sister and I saw the movie WAY too much in the theaters and listened to the soundtrack a lot, because it just made us happy.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-10 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
idk if i agree about its flawlessness, but i fuckin love this movie. It was the first musical in modern times to be a straight-up MUSICAL (no coveres of pop songs like moulin rouge, no pussy-footing around with dream sequences like Chicago). It opens with an awesome song and continues with awesome music throughout. And the lead actress is ADORABLE and charming and talented and let me love her.

Dear god, I'm so glad I'm not alone in this. Dude, I already know that people don't randomly burst into music-and-dance numbers IRL, stop having characters break the fourth wall to make the same goddamn observation. I'm perfectly capable of suspending disbelief, thank you very much, so why the hell can't the average audience do the same with musicals? Now get back singing!

Nothing bores me more than a musical that is ~self-aware~

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-07-10 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
[Picture is the cover picture of the soundtrack of the more recent film "Hairspray". It has a lineup of the cast from the movie, with the names of the actors on one side: John Travolta, Michelle Pfeiffer, Christopher Walken, Amanda Bynes, James Marsden and Queen Latifah; Brittany Snow Zac Efron, Elijah Kelley, introducing Nikki Blonsky.]

It's not my favorite movie... But it's the only movie I can't find any flaws in.

Submit this to cinemasins.

they will find and reveal all flaws mwuahahaha
