Gonna guess it's because she's not in the show and probably won't ever be, anonbrosis.

Praying they get the rights to Clarice. And that Will is still around when she shows up.

I've become so attached to Will that I don't want to contemplate a show without him. It makes me legit sad to think of him ending up like he does in the books and no longer on the show. I just don't think I would want to watch after that, no matter how much I loved Clarice in the book and SOTL movie (never saw "Hannibal" the Movie).

Maybe I need to step away from the computer?

yeah I can't deny that I started watching for the concept and fell in love with Will well beyond my love for any of the other characters. If he's not in the show I doubt I'd keep watching.

I agree. I really hope he gets a different ending to his arc than what happens in the books and I can't imagine the tv show without him. But I do LOVE Clarice and (if they do get the rights) can not wait to see what they do with her since they've already played a bit with her story via Miriam and they've done such a wonderful job of staying true to the feel of the canon while not being afraid to mess around in there at the same time. (I kinda really love this show.)

(Anonymous) 2013-07-09 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I really hope the show A) goes that long, and B) is able to get the rights to Clarice. I want to see this version of Hannibal have just as intense a relationship with Clarice as he does with Will. On top of that, I want Will to be around less by then. Granted, I'm not sure the show would ever go so far as to remove him as a lead, but if they get to later story lines, that's Clarice's time to shine, and she should be center stage.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-09 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
As much as I am for a bisexual Hannibal and find his games with Will fascinating, I would love this.

[personal profile] kallanda_lee 2013-07-09 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
The one does not rule out the other. I always felt that even in the Hannibal movie his bisexuality was heavily implied.

I was a fan of the books since Silence of the Lambs and am not totally caught up on the TV series. But I always thought Hannibal was bisexual. I could totally see shipping him with Will.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-09 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
The reason I am very much anti-Hannibal/Will has nothing to do with "Ewww... Hannibal isn't gay". In fact, I could very much see Hannibal being attracted to Will in a twisted way. However, there are a million and one other reasons why I am "Ewwww" about Hannibal and Will, starting with the fact that I don't believe Hannibal can truly care about another human being, above them being a plaything for him.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-09 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Exactly!

I can't get too much into a ship when one is eyeing the other like a prime cut of meat, every action is only the marinating and preparation of that meal.

I think Hannibal does have real affection for Will, but only in the way that you have a real affection for your favorite childhood toy. You do things to your toys that you would never do to real people because you know real people have feelings and can be hurt, but Hannibal only sees people as his toys. If they're destroyed, he just finds new ones.

That depends on how you view Murasaki, doesn't it? He did care for her, and even if it wasn't in a healthy or traditional way, she was never his plaything. Or would you say Hannibal stopped caring about people after her?

Oooh, what a great time for this secret! I just finished reading Red Dragon yesterday, going for SotL today; I'll see how this Starling chick is, anon. I won't be 'ignoring' her for much longer! C:

(Anonymous) 2013-07-10 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
Well, a lot of them are specifically fans of the show and she's not in the show. So why would they pay attention to her? If they're book fans it's more of a legit point.

And on that point, I remember back in the day when I encountered another Hannibal fan, and they shipped Hannibal/Will and so did I, and all was well and good until they found out Hannibal/Clarice was my OTP (I multiship), and they flipped out and kept going "ewwwwsss het! But why??"

(Anonymous) 2013-07-10 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
Eh, he hasn't met her yet. I think fans who only watch the show are.. perfectly within their rights to ignore/erase her. She doesn't exist in that universe, and might never. This coming from a similarly old school fan.

The show is such a removed AU-type creature that I can't muster the anger you'd expect with all of this character distortion and woobifying. It doesn't touch the canon. Whatever. Have fun, guys.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-10 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
So why can't he be bi and everybody can go home happy?

(Anonymous) 2013-07-10 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
The absence of Clarice was the reason I didn't bother watching Hannibal, tbh. That, and I knew fandom would be mentally fapping over Will/Hannibal and ignoring Clarice.

I'm aware that she's not a presence on the show so it's easy to ignore her, but to me, you can't even think Hannibal Lecter without thinking Clarice Starling. Despite my intense dislike of her fate at the end of Hannibal the book.

In my mind, the two are twisted together.

Emphasis on 'twisted'.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-10 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
as much as I love Clarice (which is to say, shitloads) and agree with everything you've said here, I still think the show is fantastic and worth watching for anyone who's a fan of the books.

I just have to resign myself to the fact that people who were introduced via the show are never going to give Clarice her due. fandom's always going to prefer the gay. in the back of my mind, though, for every Hannibal/Will fic I write, I'm always going to be aware that he hasn't met the other half of his OTP yet ...

[Picture is the hall of a very, very elegant museum with tons of murals.]

As an old-school fan of Harris's novels it pisses me off how many new fans ignore or erase Clarice and her importance to Hannibal.

Bonus secret: I ship Hannibal/Will and the other dinosaurs screaming about "ewww Hannibal isn't gay" piss me off as much.

Bonus bonus secret: In a weird way, I might prefer Hannibal/Will if only because this new canon might give Clarice a chance to escape her fate in the books...

(Anonymous) 2013-07-10 05:23 am (UTC)(link)
Well hey, in the show he hasn't met her yet!

(I love her so much. I ship it so much! I also dig Hannibal/Will though :D happily-multishipping liiiife)

Clarice doesn't exist [yet] in the fullerverse so I don't see what the problem is?

...she escaped it in the film for Hannibal. :P

May not be the best movie ever, but she did.

Still am not enthralled or impressed by that show. B/
