Until they give him a real name, fans can call him whatever they want. And if Genim is a fanon then that is fine. Though I would like to know how Genim came about.

Ugh, Genim drives me up the fucking wall! The name isn't pronounceable from what we've heard on the show. Genim is easy to pronounce!

I'm going to have a hard time accepting that Papa Stilinski's first name isn't John when the time comes, though.

Yep. Annoys me that some authors continue to use it. Jeff Davis has even said it's a Polish name. Just look one up online that's impossible to pronounce and there you go!

Dude, Zdzisław or Świętopełk are super easy to pronounce. But then I am Polish :D

Also, you are unlikely to meet a Zdzisław under the age of 40, not a cool name anymore, and Świętopełk was last in vogue sometime in the Middle Ages. As in no one ever is called that name. And if they are their parents suck terribly.

I saw a fic once that used Przemysław, and I liked that due to the meaning but it seems really easily pronounceable.

At this point, I think the onus is on Jeff Davis to either 1) canonically (aka, on the show itself, not in an interview or on Twitter or wherever) reveal Stiles's actual first name and/or 2) canonically provide an explanation for why Finstock's folder calls him "Genim Stilinski."

This isn't an example of out-of-control fanon; it's an example of bad editing and/or prop design that the show creator doesn't want to bother correcting.

I know it's not his name and I wish people would be more varied but I honestly can't bring myself to care that people use that name.

I hate that fandom has decided this is Stiles' first name. Jeff Davis even said it wasn't! Why not go for something actually difficult to say or spell, like ZDZISLAW, IARFHLAIH, MAELEACHLAINN, ŚWIĘTOPEŁK.

Genim is a cute name, but 1) the name on the folder wasn't Genim Stilinski, it was [something]ienim Stilinski; and 2) his name is supposed to be completely horrific and unpronounceable, based on Coach's fumbling attempts to make any kind of sense of it as well. Even ignoring Word of God that Genim is wrong and the name is Polish, Genim just isn't whacked-out and difficult enough to qualify based on the parameters established in canon.

Agreed, it doesn't seem unusual or difficult enough.

That said I've never seen Genim used for him. In the fic I've read people generally don't mention his first name at all unless it's to say how unusual or absurdly difficult to pronounce it is, but rarely is his actual name given. BUT I'm new to the fandom so I've probably just not run across it yet. I prefer Stiles because it's what the show uses and I doubt I'll never think of him as anything but Stiles.

Still, I hope at some point the show tells us his name, and that it's something that stumps people.

It bothers me too. At first it was fine, but now I just roll my eyes whenever I see it and depending on how much the fic has grabbed me by that point, sometimes I just back-arrow. Same with John for the Sheriff, to be honest, though that's not as objectionable.

I feel that (thankfully) people are moving away from using Genim, although alas we can't really do anything about all the fic with it that already exists.
