You lost me when you dissed Treasure Planet.

Is that really a diss?

No, perhaps not -- but I wasn't all that serious either (guess I should've made that clearer). Anyway, people often say Treasure Planet wasn't very good, and I personally loved it.

I loved Treasure Planet - particularly a couple of the songs.

Glad to hear it! I also liked the music, especially since it wasn't of the usual characters-suddenly-start-singing variety.

I don't actually mind characters singing - but I also really love musicals so that might be why. I just thought the music was well written, and very pretty [...and very inspiring. /shame face]

Treasure Planet is one of my favourite Disney movies ever. Also Atlantis, actually.

I didn't like the Princess and the Frog much at all. The characters were fine, it was just boring.

Treasure Planet is honestly one of the few Disney movies I really, really like. I wish it didn't get the hate it does, because it's fantastic.

Yeah, I really don't get why it gets so much hate -- pretty much every aspect of it is great, IMHO. But it's good to hear I'm not alone in loving it!

I just re-watched Treasure Planet the other day and it's so good. *flails over Captain Amelia for about 20 minutes*

I made a post about it and someone recced Atlantis which...yeah, I didn't like nearly as much. The animation was pretty but the story kinda fell flat to me

I wish Disney would have some more adventure movies like that, though.

I've only seen Atlantis once, ages ago, but as I recall I didn't really care for it. Maybe I should give it another chance, someday.

Anyway, speaking of animated adventure movies... Have you seen The Road To El Dorado? It's not actually Disney, but it's great anyway!

Probably because Atlantis is a wholesale ripoff of Stargate.

I haven't seen that, but Disney ripping things off doesn't really surprise me. I think there was an old, obscureish anime that someone said it was a rip off of as well. I read about that a long time ago.

That would be Kimba the White Lion.

The Lion King definitely did take some stuff from it, like the shape of Pride Rock, but I think most people ranting about that missed the part where the Lion King is Hamlet.

Also, Kimba and Simba both mean lion, IIRC.

Wrong movie. But that too. (see my post)

I always knew about Kimba actually, because my mom had seen it and when we saw The Lion King she was all, "That's Kimba! They totally stole Kimba!"

But yeah I was talking about Atlantis, and the anime I was thinking of was Nadia Secret of Blue Water.

Disney has a proud tradition of Ripping of Ghilbi works (and then releasing them without comment in the states)

And I love both of them.

I'll probably get shot for this, but I actually like Treasure Planet (and even PatF) more than the Lion King. I like individual things about TLK (Scar, Timon/Pumba, some of the songs, Zazu) but on a whole I was unimpressed with the over-serious Hamlet-esqueness of it.

Which is apparently blasphemy. XD

I love Treasure Planet. So much. Beautiful art! Kickass catgirl! David Hyde Pierce! Morally grey villain! Excellent CG/cel animation integration! Flintlock laser pistols!

They lost me when they said Atlantis was good and classed it with Treasure Planet :|
