3) Corner Gas secret! I love you.
10) Oh, word. Word so many times.
13) Futari wa Pretty Cure is not stupid! (Says the proud magical girl fan, so I don't have much credibility to you, do I?) But I agree about the songs.
22) ...best typo ever. Now I want mangos.
29) How would it limit that?

BYU is a mormon school. It has one of the strictest honor codes in the world, and students there aren't allowed to be involved with any pornographic or otherwise indecent stuff, among other things. (For example, male students aren't allowed to grow a beard without a permit.) I can definitely see how it would limit fandom activities.

6. I've never found this sort of argument to be fair. I obviously don't know the details of your specific situation, but when people say that someone can't write about something because they haven't experienced it themselves, that's BS. Virgins can write porn, and some can write it well. I'm guessing most fanfic writers haven't ever been in a war, but they can still write about it. It's what makes a good writer - making it believable even if you don't have personal experience to base it off of. Sometimes it might take research, sometimes it's just having a good enough imagination. Maybe the fic in particular you're referring to is crappy - I wouldn't know. But just because it wasn't written exactly in the way that you imagine it should have been doesn't mean it was inaccurate. I really doubt wanting to kill yourself is the same experience for everyone.

I know I'm not dealing with your main point, which I think is that the person went ahead and wrote about the subject when you had just recently lived it, but I just needed to rant, since the argument itself is something of a pet peeve for me.

not the same person

(Anonymous) 2007-10-12 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
Heck, there are people who HAVE gone through things like suicide and STILL can't write it.

The key player is the writing ability. Whether you lived through the situation your character is going through or not can help, but it's not necessary by any means.

4. I ship it hard!
10. I find myself doing the same thing. :\
25. Nono > Nia. And yes, watch Gunbuster and Diebuster.

[identity profile] friendshipbeam.livejournal.com 2007-10-11 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
That reminds me, I need to finish Gunbuster. I left off at episode 2 and went out for supper, then forgot to finish. ^^;

33. AHAHAHAHAHA. ♥

Yeah, I was like "behold, Gaia's new incest ship. >:D"

Does Gaia count as a fandom now? People are shipping the NPCs and I think some of them got/are getting enough character development to actually be RPable.

1. I agree wholeheartedly about the graphics bit! I don't want my games to look ugly per se, but to me, realism is incredibly dull (no matter how detailed it is). High-res lovingly-animated 2D sprites are the way to go!

3. ♥ ♥ ♥ I love that show like nobody's business! Even better 'cause it's one of the few things my mum and I have in common. And if I'm following the secret correctly, I agree.

17. Yeaaaah! Never too old, I say (though a shame about opening your bro's present). Just watch out for the haxed shiny legendaries on wi-fi, yeah? 8D Darn Mewtwos.

OP # 3

(Anonymous) 2007-10-11 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
The person who got me into this show is in your F-List. The secret is also about her. ♥ I wish such an amazing and talented person would have more confidence in herself and not worry what others say. She deserves to be happy and love what she loves.

That, and Corner Gas kicks ass.

20. Is...is that from Flint The Time Detective (I never saw it in Japanese). If it is...I wanna know where I can see this!

There have been four DVDs released (only up to episode 13) in the US, and they're all available from Blockbuster.com. Don't know about Netflix, though.

29. lol. you will not last at byu. trust me. you will give it a good long try and you will pretend to be satisfied with frisbee golf and root beer floats for awhile but if you are writing MA fanfic and youre into the net/fandom, you will not be happy at byu. you should try it though, i guess, for as long as you can stand it, but my sweet, i know you (trust me on that) and you are going to grow to hate it there. its not for you. trust me on that too.

34. secret garden fandom is woefully unloved :(

episode 4 was awesome; i don't see why people hate it so much.

though i'm glad he left. the animation style was cool for one episode, but had it been used again it wouldn't have been cool anymore ):

10. I was at Best Buy once, looking at GBA games, and this kid was standing there. He was looking at the same display I was. He kept giving me these weird looks, and finally he just gave me this glare and said, "Girls don't play video games." I looked down at him and replied, "I was saving Zelda from Ganon before you were even born." Note to self: need Legend of Zelda icon.

But aside from that one incident, I've never had a problem with guys getting freaked out/hitting on me because I play video games. Hell, most of my guy friends in college thought it was cool because one more person in the game = more fun for all!

16. My best friend was in tears over that episode D:

34. I LOVE THAT MOVIE!! ~♥♥♥ Maggie Smith is just awesome :D

3. CORNER GAS SECRET YESSSSSSS~

10. The guys I've bumped into while buying games (and the guys in my game club) don't seem to care. It's the girls I get weird looks from, if I get them at all, strangely enough.

20. "This guy"?

35. Thanks to you I'll probably be doing the same thing from now on. x[

3. I know exactly who you're talking about, and you are exactly right :)

10. Wow your almost the same type of gamer that I am! :O Except I'm the opposite that I often show myself in game stores openly wanting and swooning at the most obcsure, rediculous, girly, or even kiddy games possible XD why bother looking cool when you can have them giving you weird looks for oggling (honestly) at a new game going "AW MAN SWEET COOKING MAMA EFF YEA!!" ? 8D

#28, You're all alone! XD Kidding. Thanks for the links

10. Your secret is much deeper and more interesting than most posted here (not that I only enjoy the deep ones; I fully enjoy the wank and pointless secrets), and I think that you and many other people involved in gaming and other traditionally male pursuits feel the same way. There have been huge strides toward gender equality, but we still aren't quite there.
