Strange. I'm a girl gamer and I never get that kinda shit from the guys in the gaming stores here.

Re: 10

(Anonymous) 2007-10-11 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
See, the thing is I DON'T get that shit. In the incident that inspired that secret, the guys didn't say a single sexist word, and gave my opinions due weight.

But I realized, as I walked away, that I'd jumped into that conversation just to prove I had gamer cred. It wasn't a comfortable realization.

I can't say I really liked the animation style in that episode much, no.

8. Now's as good time as any: I've seen the riffs on this meme around enough that I think I get the joke, but what's the original source. I've been wondering for months.

3. omg CORNER GAS secret?!?!?!??! OMG.
10. The last time I went into a game store to buy something, I was asked if it was for my boyfriend. lol, because a girl like me would never play videogames, right.

9. I think it was more that it was so different and relatively low-quality than the rest. I'd probably be able to deal with an entire series animated like that, but I still hated that episode.

12. I'm exactly like you! Revel in it! Oh, and I ended up giving that series up because I couldn't take it anymore. Don't force yourself to read something you don't like.

16. Sniffle.

20. Wow, that's a guy?

22. Yes plz, iawts.

25. Hm, I will watch this perhaps.

27. BE MY FRIEND AND GIVE ME RECS. I WILL LISTEN.

30. It took that to get you to ship them? Damn, I shipped them after the first "check up on Stephen Colbert" I'd ever seen.

33. LOL GAIA PLOTLINE. I'm obsessed with it for some reason. I really need to catch up, though. What, incest? What have I missed?

10. I totally relate, but I only started doing it recently because.

Oh, because when I went to pick up my pre-order of Kingdom Hearts II last year, one of the clerks was like: "Oh, I could have guessed. Your a girl."

The OTHER clerk stood up for me, but I was just like: "Uh, wtf man?"

It was an unsettling feeling since I'm used to shopping at video game and comic stores where the clerks know me and, like, treat me like a "normal" (READ: MALE) customer. Your experience is fairly universal, unfortunately.

Thank you for making this secret.

[identity profile] cephiedvariable.livejournal.com 2007-10-11 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Also, apparently (according to my roomate), clerks hit on me incessantly once they realize I know games well. I'm too la-di-dah and into the discussion to notice most of the time, but she claims it's pretty obvious.

Which is ANOTHER barrel of WTF because I'm not particularly hot. SO, UH, CAN WE HAVE SOME NICE MEDIUM HERE WHERE GIRLS CAN WALK INTO A GAME STORE WITHOUT HAVING TO EITHER PROVE HOW HARDCORE THEY ARE, OR DEAL WITH LONELY COLLEGE-AGED GUYS WHO'S LAST GF DUMPED THEM OVER HALO? :PPPP

Re: 32

There is, actually. A lot of American and Japanese fan artists love this game, if only they would give Grim Grimoire a chance they'd love it too! It's just as awesome, if I dare say so.

10. I think the term "girl gamers" should be tossed into the trash pile. If you play games, you're a gamer no matter what's between your legs. End. Of. Story

10. The boy's club of gaming is so scary once you're even partly in. Everyone wants to date you because you are the only piece of poontang in a seawide sausage fest. BUT I AGREE it's really annoying to feel like you don't "belong" in a gaming store looking at Harvest Moon games or something.

21. True, but not anymore than people are assholes in real life.

22. What is a yaoi mango. I think I want one. MMMM FRUIT.

[identity profile] cephiedvariable.livejournal.com 2007-10-11 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I find the boy's club of gaming very disorientating mostly because female gamers are such a "no DUUUUH" to me. All of my female friends play video games. Most of the "hardcore" gamers I know are female. I've known more girls with boyfriends who don't share their gaming hobbies than guys who have had that problem.

So when I meet these guys who are all like: "OMG GAMING GIRL. ANOMALLY DROOL WOW DFHKSLHFSD" I'm just like... wtf, guys. Nearly 50% of gamers are girls. WHERE THE HELL HAVE YOU BEEN?

See- I never thought we were unusual, but on of my friend's bf's did proclaim: "I HAVE FOUND THE HOLY GRAIL OF GIRL GAMERS." upon being exposed to our shared nerdy hobbies. :P I-I just don't understand.
