There is no wrong way to play a game*.

*Unless you are supporting a group of other players.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-21 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
I think even that depends on how you fail to support them; Leroy Jenkins was a BOSS. XD

Griefing's wrong, even if you're not supposedly playing support for the people you're griefing.

How can you play it wrong? I mean, unless you're playing with a group of people and getting them killed, you're probably playing it fine. Plus, it sounds like you're having fun :)

Well, the most common reason for role-playing games is escapism. If your day-to-day life is random people taking swings at you, quiet craftmaking is totally logical escapism, just as getting into violent fights is totally logical escapism for someone who spends the day talking to people or in an office or reading and writing.
bur: WW!Link getting swamped by little piggies. Adorable. (Link with piggies)

If you're enjoying yourself you're not playing it wrong. It's when a game becomes a chore or filled with "obligations" that you're doing it wrong.

Totally this.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-21 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
Exactly this. Have fun, OP :)

You're having fun?

You're doing it right.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-20 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Not at all! There's so much you can do in FFXIV, and you can gain EXP and do so much without ever actually fighting. (I just started, so I could be wrong, But I think it's great that there's such a variety of things one can do.) If you're happy doing just that, so what?

Secret 1 - Final Fantasy XIV

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-09-20 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
[Picture is a screencapture of the Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing game "Final Fantasy XIV". It shows a humanoid creature that looks like a child with pointy ears with a text bubble. The creature has light skin, short blond hair, long golden earrings? a white turban of sorts, and a black and blueish purple dress.]

I'm a small town police officer as well as paramedic. I spent most of my FFXIV time as solo craftmaker and gatherer. If I want random people taking swings at me I just go to work. Secret because apparently I'm playing it wrong.

[personal profile] ecoerrante 2013-09-21 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
People don't realize how dangerous it can be to be a paramedic. : /

Said, screw the haters. As long as you're having fun who cares?

That's part of why I like Guild Wars 2 - people tend to be more inclined to help each other than bitch about *that*.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-21 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
I belong to a crafting/gathering LS on my server. Sounds like you'd fit right in.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-21 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
Going OT here, but it's weird to think of someone of value to society contributing to FS.

Like, I always think of FS people to be, you know, unemployed mostly and the people who have jobs doing something like programming or working shops, or you know, something that isn't a big time significant high pressure worth wile job.

You know what I mean, I just think people on FS tend to be the type of people with too much time on their hands, and not enough to occupy their minds.

Anyway, You do important work, it's well appreciated, and you can play the game however the fuck you want.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-21 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
We're not all baristas, I promise. =P Not that I'm ragging on baristas, they're some of my favorite people. They make the tasty beverages that keep me from falling flat on my face. This anon is in the military, and however anybody feels about that, it still consumes most of my time. Heh. It used to be that on deployment, when I got the chance I'd run and find wi-fi ASAP to catch up on all the fanfictions I was reading. And it depends on what job you're doing you are, but most of the people around me are nerdy as well. In fandom you find all kinds of people.

We apparently have a few military people who come here. I know I've at least spoken to two. So I'm not really all that surprised.

I'm not touching the part where you said that apparently the only jobs "worthwhile" are those that are life threatening.

First of all, thank you for your service.

Second, you have the right to play like you want to play so long as you aren't griefing or breaking the rules of the game - which you aren't. Enjoy.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-21 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
Play the way you want to play, OP, and screw the haters. :) People play the games for escapism and this, for you, is what makes you happy. Don't feel badly about it.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-21 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
When I was playing Kingdom Hearts through the second time, I would play the island level over and over, just kicking island ass without moving forward. It was fun.

Hey, I have days in Old Republic that I devote solely to crafting stuff on a couple of my toons because I find it a nice way to wind down from a stressful day (and if my guild isn't doing any Heroic mission runs). So I totally feel ya, OP.
