One part of the pairing is dead in T/W, while Arizona and Callie are alive?

(Anonymous) 2013-09-21 08:42 pm (UTC)(link)
They're pretty much the only likeable couple on GA, I really hope they get to live happily ever after.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-21 08:52 pm (UTC)(link)
That is the most adorable pic of Tara and Willow. /nothing to add

(Anonymous) 2013-09-21 09:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Callie is bisexual. Can we stop erasing bisexuality?

(Anonymous) 2013-09-21 09:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Willow was too, but that was actually erased in canon and I will never get over it.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-21 09:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I know! She was with Oz and happy about it, so she's bisexual! I hate that they decided she was a lesbian and left it at that.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-21 09:21 pm (UTC)(link)
She also had a history of being attracted to men. She admitted to having a crush on Giles, plus there was her longtime crush on Xander plus their affair when she was with Oz and he was with Cordelia. And they just totally erased all that somehow even though she was actually standing next to Tara when she admitted her crush on Giles *smh*

T/W was a great couple to start with but it became incredibly gross long before Tara died. And I never thought that just because Tara was ready to forgive Willow that they would have gotten back together or stayed that way if they did. Forgive =/= forget and the only way it could happen is if Willow pulled more of her sick memory modification and mind control bullshit.

Tara deserved better than Willow and a better exit from the show than she got.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-21 09:23 pm (UTC)(link)
W/T would only be different in that they would have been allowed the usual PDA afforded het couples. But if Joss Whedon is in charge, all that other stuff - the mind raping and brutal death that meant nothing after five seconds of happyhappyjoyjoy - would still have happened.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-21 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
This, exactly. It's a very established pattern in Joss' writing.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-21 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)
How are they not comparable? Both are/were good relationships that turned unhealthy and with one of them doing morally objectionable, selfish stuff that hurts the other one.

Secret 7 - Grey's Anatomy, Buffy The Vampire Slayer

[Picture is two images, one on top of the other. The first has Dr. Callie Torres, as portrayed by Sara Ramirez, and Dr. Arizona Robbins, as portrayed by Jessica Capshaw, from the TV show "Grey's Anatomy". Callie has light olive skin and long dark hair. Arizona has light skin and long blonde hair. They are both smiling and Callie is touching Arizona's shoulder. The second image shows Tara Maclay, as portrayed by Amber Benson, and Willow Rosenberg, as portrayed by Alyson Hannigan from the TV show "Buffy the Vampire Slayer". Tara has light skin and long brown hair, while Willow has light red or dark blonde hair and light skin. They smiling and leaning their heads together.]

I don't know why this couple [Calie X Arizona] helps sooth my (still) broken heart in regards to this couple [Tara X Willow].

Secret because: They aren't comparable except that they're lesbians, and seriously, it's been over a decade. Willow/Tara would be different on today's TV.

Tara deserved so much better than Willow.

Poor Tara. :(

I'm marathoning BtVS right now (having never watched this before) and all I can think is Tara better be pretty goddamned amazing, then. Willow's my favorite so far.

I kinda hate Willow so...

(Anonymous) 2013-09-22 11:45 am (UTC)(link)
Willow's character gets.... seriously screwed up, to the point where she's not really the same person by the time the series ends. She has moments where she's still seasons 1-3 Willow, but she definitely changes a lot. Tara is actually similar to season one Willow at first, except her growth is more natural and not based around trying to make the character darker and edgier.

I'm still bummed out about Arizona cheating on Callie even though it was kind of inevitable since 90% of the show's relationships involve infidelity at some point. Damn you, Grey's Anatomy.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-21 10:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Ugh, this!

(Anonymous) 2013-09-22 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
god, it's a real gamble getting attached to any relationship on that show. hell, it look like six seasons for Meredith/Derek to become a stable, functioningish couple

but mostly I'm just bitter at how much fuckery Cristina/Owen had. not to mention what happened to Mark/Lexie (they killed her off right as I was starting to like her too...)

(I know, I know, it's Grey's Anatomy. I can't help myself)

(Anonymous) 2013-09-22 05:19 am (UTC)(link)
See, Arizona cheating on Callie was one of the only instances in this show that I thought was actually realistic and plausible. I'm really hoping this is the deal-breaker for their relationship because Callie's been put through the wringer so many times already and she deserves so much better. And Arizona is a self-obsessed child who has proven time and again that she refuses to see her own faults and isn't going to change.

(Why did Erika have to leave. Harrumph.)

(Anonymous) 2013-09-22 05:29 am (UTC)(link)
I thought it was pretty realistic given all the troubles and stress their relationship had undergone, but like you I just feel really badly for Callie's character (This is the second spouse she's had cheat on her, jesus Rhimes give her a break)

I go back and forth over how I feel about Arizona. Most of the characters are selfish and fucked up a decent amount of the time so sometimes I would be like "okay, you're messed up and kind of annoying but I think it makes you an interesting character and you're cute sometimes" and then at other times (like when she was being an immature brat by trying to sabotage Alex's career to get him to stay in Seattle) it's like "what the fuck is even wrong with you, you're awful".

(Anonymous) 2013-09-22 05:40 am (UTC)(link)
da

Her behavior with the whole Alex thing still makes me go "wtf". It certainly wasn't the most unethical thing anyone on that show has done but it might be in the running for most petty...

While it was horrible of Arizona to cheat on her, I think people really forget how Callie had been acting that whole year. She kept talking as though she had been there on the plane. She would group them together as a "we", and she would make assumptions FOR them, when they did not agree. She wanted to sue the pilot when the survivors of the crash were like "wtf... no, he was one of us". Callie just... didn't get it, she was co-opting their experience. She kept acting like she was part of the horror but she wasn't.

And then she also pushed Arizona into getting better. She kept guilting her for "making it all about the leg". Arizona lost a limb and Callie made it about her sex life. I do admire the fact that Callie was often patient, but she could also be REALLY pushy. Arizona was clearly not ready for a lot of the things Callie made her do.

So while I hate that Arizona did what she did, I don't think it's so simple as Arizona being a self-obsessed child. I think if anything... Callie was being a bit self-absorbed as well.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-22 05:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I do agree with you that it was weird that Callie kept acting like she was part of the group, and part of the experience, when she clearly wasn't. So much so that halfway through the season, I started wondering if she had been on the plane, only to realize that she hadn't. So, yeah. That was really weird and annoying.

Arizona was clearly not ready for a lot of the things Callie made her do.
Such as what, exactly? I really disagree with everything else you've said here. Callie did NOT make it all about her sex life. Yes, she made an issue of the fact that she hadn't had sex in several months. Not the most understanding thing to do, but in light of how understanding she was in general, I think it's excusable.

To me, what's INEXCUSABLE is the fact that, even a YEAR later, Arizona still blamed Callie for cutting off her leg. Arizona continually acted as if that was Callie's fault and placed the blame on her, when Callie was responsible for saving her life. Callie had to put up with that kind of stress and guilt which was completely unfair.

Right after the operation, Arizona spent months laying in bed and refusing to go to rehab or anything. Which is understandable because she went through a major trauma, but then yes, Callie did eventually push her to get better. I don't think what she did was wrong.

I'm not really a fan of Callie or Arizona or them as a couple, but this was how I felt about their situation.
