I would consider 12-14 still part of your childhood...

Isn't that normal? I mean, a lot of really young memories can get sort of blurry, but you remember 12-14 quite well. I'm nostalgic about a lot of things from that age as well.

Yes, everyone forgot Powerpuff Girls

[personal profile] chardmonster 2013-09-23 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
You sweet, precious flower. You will never love children's cartoons as much as you did when you were twelve. Jokes you've heard before aren't so funny the fourth time around. What a harsh, cruel world.

By the way, what happened to the PPG remake? Was it canceled due to bad reactions to the redesign? What happened?

(Anonymous) 2013-09-23 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
While I can see someone having stronger nostalgia for things that happened in the 12-14 age as the memories are stronger/clearer...you are still WAY too close to that age range to be feeling nostalgia about that period of your life.

Repo: TGO came out in 2008, so at maximum you're, what 19? At least wait until you're a full year out of your teens to be nostalgic about your teens.

If you don't consider 12-14 your childhood, what is? 11 and under is a pretty short kid cut-off.

Sweetie pie, anything under 17/18 is part of your childhood. Although I must admit many people seem to extend their childhood well into their twenties these days.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-23 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Am I seriously the only one here who can see why someone would consider 12-14 a different period than "childhood?" Like, the stuff I liked from about 6-10 is entirely different from what I liked when I was in the same age range as the OP, and the stuff I liked from my mid-to-late teens is different from what I like now. They're all separate periods of life, with markedly different levels of understanding/maturity.

I don't know; I just think most people here are being too harsh. I think most people from 12-14 wouldn't define themselves as "children" but as "preteens"/"teenagers", even if "child" is technically correct.

I didn't at all read this secret as the OP trying to say they're SO GROWN UP!!!!1!, and am honestly surprised at the largely negative reaction to someone just reminiscing about a simpler time in their life.

Er ... just me then?

(Anonymous) 2013-09-24 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
I got into Repo when I was in my 20's. I kinda feel like re-watching it now.

(If I had a child who was 12-14, I would NOT let them watch Repo the Genetic Opera.)

OP

(Anonymous) 2013-09-24 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
Sorry for seeming whiny - ten minutes after I posted this I realised how childish it sounded.

The point of this secret was to just feel nostalgic over a much simpler time in my life. This year has been shitty beyond belief and immersing myself in fandom seems like a thing from the past I can't return to. I should have made that more clear.

I really did not think Repo had been out long enough for anyone to feel nostalgic about it. Has it seriously been that long? WTF?

(Anonymous) 2013-09-24 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
I get nostalgic about the things I was into when I was 12-14 too. I consider it my pre-teen phase of childhood. I was really into anime (especially Digimon) and angst filled music like Korn. I do get nostalgic about things when I was younger than those ages as well. I don't think it's weird to be nostalgic about any period of time in your life even if it was only a year or so ago.

Also, I don't know who these people are that forgot about Powerpuff Girls and Gorillaz (don't recognize the other two pictures), but they're seriously missing out.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-24 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
Childhood or not aside, Anon I feel you. Repo, Gorillaz ( god I miss that fandom, there was some great fic, even better rp ) Might Boosh (right?), and Powerpuff Girls.

Good times, good memories. No forgive me while I go and feel old in the corner.

Aww, the Mighty Boosh! I will never stop loving them, and I feel quite nostalgic about them sometimes too. I got into them when I was 13 and I'm almost 22 now. I always feel like I discovered a large portion of things I really love between the ages of 12-15, so I think I get what you mean by separating that age range. :)

(Anonymous) 2013-09-24 05:20 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think they're forgotten about, just not actively talked about. And it's hard to keep up a conversation about something that hasn't had new material in years. I'll willing to bet you find someone out there to strike up a chat with "hey remember those powerpuff girls?"

But it's a normal feeling, and you'll find other things in life that give you that kind of excitement.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-24 06:59 am (UTC)(link)
Wtf is with people saying 14 is part of one's childhood?
It's the beginning of your teenage years. I was knowingly and willingly reading smut at 14.

wtf, the condescension is fucking dripping from this thread.

seems like some people feel old, or feel like they have to play their old cred card? Do you need a cane to shake? Being cynical and condescending is not the same thing as being "grown up".

I don't think any of these things have been forgotten about, OP. There's still a large and active Mighty Boosh fandom, at least.
