That would be an amazing fic. I would read and review the hell out of it. Adding it to the list of things I never knew I wanted.

Why would it be tacky? At least it's original.

OP

There's always seemed, to me, to be an understood rule of Don't Write Fanfictions About Real Life Political Issues Of The Moment. And I get annoyed with overly political fanfics, so doing it myself would be...not quite according to Hoyle.

I don't know. Maybe I'm biased because I was part of the V for Vendetta fandom and that always had political undertones, even if just fictional, they were obviously metaphors for r/l things.

Not going to lie - you risk annoying people if you get political. But then, there might be a great number of people who'd appreciate it.

I'd honestly rather see a fic in which he storms the House of Representatives and refuses to let anyone leave the room until they solve the budget fuckery and allow the parks to reopen; that would be a lot more satisfying than seeing him abuse a bunch of innocent National Parks Service employees who would happily let everyone into the memorial if the government was open. But I have my own set of issues with misplaced blame.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-17 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
now, that would be cool

he would be all like "get your shit together, gentlemen, America needs you", but, uh, politely

(Anonymous) 2013-10-17 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree. They were letting in WWII vets anyways.

But it would be grand if he told off a certain congressman as being Un-American for harassing a park ranger when that congressman and his croniess shut down the government.

I don't OP was implying we should blame the NPS employees. Just that Capt. America wouldn't tolerate this fuckery. There is no reason he couldn't punch one of those Tea Party idiots who turned the storming into a photo op while he was at it.

Since 1976, the United States federal government has shut down at least once under every president but Bush II. Obama is the only one to close open-air memorials during a shutdown. Even Clinton, who was president through a shutdown that lasted 27 days, didn't close (or try to close) the Mall. Barricading open-air sites and staffing them with cops actually cost more money than just expecting everyone to pick up their own trash for a while would have.

This. That jackass Texas rep who bullied that poor Park Ranger was bad enough. I don't want to see Cap shield punching a bunch of NPS employees. Not to mention it would be wildly out of character for him.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-17 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
...why would he storm the barricades to see the memorial? This is Captain America right? I've only seen the movies but he seems far to polite to storm anything when the memorials are not open.

Don't underestimate the Captain's ability to get rough. He did beat the Nazis after all. Give him the right target and he can get righteously ticked.

I know, right?

I wouldn't wanna read a fic by anyone who couldn't spell the very thing that they want the lead character to storm.

Yeah, first thought was "You can't spell", followed a moment later by "No wait, you're just an asshole."

NGL I would love the HELL out of that fic.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-18 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
On the one hand, there's no terrible tragedy being exploited here, so your idea is not exactly in the same league of tackiness as, say, inserting your character into 9/11 or Haiti. You should be in the clear.

On the other hand, I agree with anon up thread that there's no sense in having Cap clash with hapless NPS employees, because it's not like they're the root of the problem. So I would not read your fic even if you wrote it.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-18 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
This is the best/worst timed secret ever. No reason to write that fic now, OP. But wait until January 15th! Ha ha ha! FUCK YOU, CONGRESS.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-18 04:41 am (UTC)(link)
seems a bit OOC tbh. I think cap is the type to realize that those people are just doing their jobs...plus, I kind of feel like they'd probably let him through anyway. it's captain america, who can turn that guy away?
blunderbuss: (Default)

[personal profile] blunderbuss 2013-10-18 05:05 am (UTC)(link)
Honestly I don't think Cap would storm the barricades. I'd say he'd start walking towards it and have the crowd part like the red sea around him because he's fucking Captain America.

Then he'd just move the barricades out of the way and lead the people into the memorial, keeping a watch on the situation to ensure everyone behaved themselves.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-18 12:05 pm (UTC)(link)
This.

I get the implication of the original idea. The ideal of America vs. the fuckery that it has become, but the problem is that the ideal of America (i.e. Cap) isn't going to respond violently. He's going to probably be disappointed and a little angry, but he won't attack people just doing their jobs.

That isn't to say he won't get in, and let in the other vets and families who want to pay their respects.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-18 09:43 am (UTC)(link)
I want to write a fic where Captain America has to collaborate on a series of tv documentaries about World War II...

I won't because it would be boring. Your idea's great, OP.
