Inspired By #3

What people/shows/games do you commonly get confused?

For instance, I still get Mark Wahlberg and Matt Damon confused at first glance. I also get Tom Waits and Ron Perlman mixed up. Regardless, they both creep me out.

And though it hasn't aired, I expect I will be confusing the titles of Almost Human and Being Human every time I google search it.

What about you all?

I can't remember faces to save my life in general. But when there was this secret a few days ago with the Hobbit character, I was reading through the comments, scrolled up to the picture and stared at it for a long time, thinking "what do you mean: That's not Orlando Bloom?". I honestly couldn't tell a difference OTL

Keira Knightley and Katie McGrath. I'm not fans of either so I quite often get them mixed up, too. I know Javier Bardem and Jeffrey Dean Morgan look similar too, but at least I'm a fan of JDM, so I can tell one from the other.

Any time I talk about Genshiken, Gravitation, or Gankutsuou, it's a safe bet that at some point I'll use the name of one of the other two. None of them are even close to the same genre! It's just the names. D:

I watched Dante 01 earlier this week and there were times that I was confused as to who was in particular scenes, as all prisoners had shaven heads and looked pretty gloomy. I don't usually have that problem, but remember thinking that faceblind persons would have a hard time to follow what was happening.

Bill Pullman and Bill Paxton. I know there are two of them and Bill Pullman was in Spaceballs and Independence Day, but, when I see the name Bill Paxton, I expect to see Bill Pullman.

I said this on #3, but Spike Lee and Spike Jonze.

They look nothing alike, their work isn't similar, but when I hear Spike Jonze, I see Spike Lee. I didn't know they were different people for the longest time.

I don't know if it's quite the same, but whenever I hear the name "Alan Tudyk" I never think of Wash from Firefly. I don't even know who I do think of, but the fact that he played King Candy blew me away, because I did know that it was Alan Tudyk who played him, but not that Alan Tudyk = Wash (among others).

Faceblind here - I can't tell pretty much any celebrity apart unless they always keep the same hair color/style. Most famous people have really generically "attractive" faces and so more or less look like mannequins to me.

John Krasinski and Zachary Levi. Sometimes I completely forget they're not the same person, even if I've watched all of The Office and all of Chuck. It's so strange, because I can easily tell them apart when I see a picture... but otherwise I just forget they're even different people.

Carly Simon and Carole King. I know they're two different people and I can easily separate their works from each other, but I always have to think a little bit to remember which name is which.

Too many to count. I'm really bad at not mixing celebrities up, at least when I'm not a fan of their work. But the most embarrasing mix-up is probably Misha Collins and Mischa Barton. I'm good in fandom spaces (because let's face it, it's always about Misha in fandom), but when I see either name in opening credits or on cast listings I never now which one is meant.

As for shows, I'm already mixing up Almost Human and Being Human. Whenever I want to check something about Almost Human I keep googling Being Human like an idiot.

I also mix up Trigun and Gurren Lagann up constantly. I've seen neither but when someone mentions either I go "oh yeah, that show-- no, wait, THAT show. Uh, which show?"

Fuck yes on the Perlman / Waits thing. for a very very long time I was convinced that Ron Perlman was in Dracula with Gary Oldman.

For me, it's the three veteran actresses that I get confused with.

Glen Close,
Helen Mirrim
and Meryl Streep

Everyone, all the time.

Wilson and Chase on House, Martha and Mels on Doctor Who, Catherine Sakai and Susan Ivanova on Babylon 5... I could go on and on. That said, I'm faceblind and I do that so frequently with people in my own life that having it happen with television characters is hardly surprising.

I don't confuse shows very often, but before I started watching Babylon 5 I could have sworn it was 'the one with the Cylons' (ie, Battlestar Galactica).
