Eh, fanservice really isn't my thing but I like the series overall.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-26 07:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I love the fanservice is in this show. It's so hilarious and over the top that even when it's not my kind of fanservice I can still enjoy it.

the fan service and the constant rape-esk jokes have made me drop it :/

The fanservice made me stop watching.

It makes me wonder: how necessary is it? Do they truly get higher ratings with it? Are there dudes out there who would not watch KLK, but do now because they get to see a girl embarrassed in her underwear?

I mean, probably, I guess. It just seems weird to me that people would be "Nah, I don't want to watch that show--wait, rape jokes? I'M THERE!"

(Anonymous) 2013-10-26 08:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Not necessary but it's something that I appreciate and enjoy.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-26 08:16 pm (UTC)(link)
you appreciate rape jokes??

(Anonymous) 2013-10-26 08:27 pm (UTC)(link)
If they are funny, why not. Inb4 rape jokes can't never be funny. But I was talking about the fanservice, not the jokes.

Fair enough, but it's something that actively detracts from it for me. I'm just asking

1. Would you keep watching the show if the overt fanservice stopped? (presumably yes?)

vs

2. Would I have continued to watch the show if the overt fanservice stopped (definitely yes)

For once it's actually thematically relevant.

Now whether those themes are worthwhile is another question, but then again it's an odd question in the first place.

I mean fundamentally the majority of TV isn't at all 'necessary', why is this your line.

[personal profile] volta_arovet 2013-10-26 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I meant "necessary for the show" not "necessary for the world in general," sorry for being unclear.

I guess it might be better to say "is the show better for having it?" or "is it worth driving off an audience who would otherwise like it?" rather than "is it necessary." In the first episode, gosh, I so wanted to like it, but I kept getting thrown out of the moment because it kept creeping me out. I wanted to like this show! I really did!

For instance, cannibalism is pretty necessary to Hannibal, even though that concept can be alienating. It is thematically appropriate to the show, and the show would not work without it.

Shinji masturbating to completion over Asuka's comatose body was thematically relevant to End of Evangelion's "FUCK YOU FANBOYS THIS IS WHAT YOU LOOK LIKE" ongoing theme. It is alienating, but since the whole point of the movie was Shinji's downward spiral and disassociation from all personal contact, and this added to it. And also that Anno hates you. :D

If making the lead dress in a sexual way she does not want is to the theme of the show, then I suppose that's fine, although it depends on where it goes, like you said. In the first episode, it seemed utterly unnecessary to the show--it could be removed, and we'd be left with goofy over-the-top fights and a kickass main character and weird worldbuilding and the show would be better for it.

lmao, mte. This art is...something.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-26 08:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Brother, dad, and pug of best friend of the main character.

They're all weirdly horny for the main character. Like even the pug got a nose bleed.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-26 08:44 pm (UTC)(link)
The only excuse for including the pug is if it goes on to make a 'get him/them fixed' joke.

I know nothing about this show and do not intend to watch it, but the title always makes my auditory cortex tingle with pleasure. It is wonderfully melodious. Period.

The title IS really catchy. -haven't watched it either-

Yeah, I'm not that into the fanservice for Kill la Kill. With something like Panty and Stocking (which is comparable in absurdity and animation style), I thought it could be kind of fun sometimes, but Kill la Kill just made it kind of demeaning with the main character constantly being sexually harassed, mocked, and humiliated.

[personal profile] blueonblue 2013-10-26 09:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Kill La Kill is clever and funny and one of the few shows out there using the absurdity in shonen fighting shows to its full potential. But, the rape jokes and crotch shots got to be too much, so unless it turns out to have a great ending, I won't keep watching.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-27 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, that's just because you're a gender traitor. Anime fandom is just fucking loaded with you guys.

fail trolling

a real tumblr sjw feminist would never refer to a group of people as "you guys"

I wish the SJW cancer stayed on Tumblr. There's a reason why I avoid that cancerous shithole.
