I think both had their ups and downs, honestly. But there's a reason I stayed out of Korra fandom entirely -- the little I saw was just negative negative negative about everything.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-07 06:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Same here. I've started to stay away from fandom in general (or at least stick to the edges) - I find it's easier to enjoy things that way.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-07 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
Season 2 had a random badguy that went no where, a bigbad with no real motivation besides muahahaha, a meandering plot that didn't pick up until the middle of the season, and Bolin's plots with women were so damn creepy/bordering on sexual harassment that it wasn't even funny.

I liked s1 way better. There was no 'Aang was a douchbag neglectful father that Katara did nothing about', no "Bolin forces a kiss on a woman who is tied up", no "Mako and Asami jumping each other while Korra just left and is facing a civil war between her entire people", no retconning of how people learned to bend. I'd much rather have Aang helping Korra get her bending back than "LOL lionturtles did everything man!"

"Mako and Asami jumping each other while Korra just left and is facing a civil war between her entire people"

Asami isn't some sort of robot. She's bound to have feelings over what happened in Season 1.

Season 1 was fucking terrible, what are you even on about?

(Anonymous) 2013-12-07 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
I was thinking this--not sure I'd say all of it was terrible, but it was mediocre, the ending was flat out terrible, and it didn't leave me inclined to watch season 2.

What kind of bothers me is the amount of people who think that the history and world building are broken (not 'bothers', but...). Bryke filled in some details, Korra started a new cycle of avatars (Which I think was kind of pointless, but okay).

All the discussion of season 2 I've heard is how it wasn't as good as season 1, so you're not alone, OP. Season 1 was awesome.

And honestly, even the love triangle wasn't that bad. It wasn't good but it could have been a heck of a lot worse. I was actually pleasantly surprised which how inoffensive it was to me.

No more love triangle

(Anonymous) 2013-12-07 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
Bryke recently said they were done with Korra's love life because 'fans hate canon couples! They like strings that never close!". Which is the exact opposite, but okay. It's kind of a shame.

Secret 12 - Legend of Korra

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-12-07 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
[Picture is Korra, main character from the cartoon "The Legend of Korra" standing on a metallic rail and overlooking a city near a mountain. She is a young woman with dark skin (very dark olive?), long brown hair pulled back in a ponytail with some pulled in smaller tails to the sides of her head, and wearing a blue and brown attire of pants/trousers, sleeveless shirt, a sort of skirt thing? and armbands. Her muscles look toned and she is standing firm.]

I'm sick of people dragging season 1 through the mud during their critiques of season 2.

Season 1 was great (with exception of the love triangle). I feel like people forgot.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-07 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
Well after season 2, I think you can look back at the first season and say, 'well it wasn't that bad'...because that's how bad the second season of Korra is

[personal profile] rivia 2013-12-07 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
lol no s1 was pretty bad by the end of the season. aang showing up to fix everything without korra learning anything about her privileges as a bender, the whole non-bender revolution just sort of stopped existing with amon gone, and so on. i think bryke or w/e they're called can write good big picture stuff but i think they were doing the episodic writing for korra as well and it really wasn't up to par with ATLA at all.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-07 03:34 am (UTC)(link)
Except in this world being a bender isn't a privilege. It's a skill some people have. Just like some people can learn Chi-blocking. To be a decent bender takes practice, time and effort.

Equalists were a hate group that were stripping people of their individuality.

I like both seasons. Both are flawed, but I loved Korra's growth in season 2. The problem was that her krew didn't grow with her. Now that the love triangle is (hopefully) behind us, we'll see more Mako/Asami/Bolin growth.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-07 04:47 pm (UTC)(link)
What growth? At the end she's told that all she needs is to embrace her own individual heroism (as opposed to the inherited heroism of the Avatar), but we've literally never seen her do anything heroic on her own terms. She has never made a difficult decision or sacrificed anything important to her for the greater good.

I defy you to point to a single concrete example of character grown on Korra's part that isn't show fiat. Tenzin telling Korra she's really grown does not mean she actually has.

both were bad.

I'm glad I'm not alone in thinking this. LoK is terrible for the most part.

Too bad the love triangle/square (because let's face it it was more of a square) really dominated the second half of the whole season. :/

(Anonymous) 2013-12-07 05:41 am (UTC)(link)
So is consensus that season two was definitely worse than one? Then I guess I'll never bother with two. I didn't like one either. Didn't think it was the worst thing ever, but I'd rate it as somewhere between bad and mediocre. So I'm glad I decided to wait and see with S2 and saved my time.

*season 1 was goo-HAHAHAHA

wait you are serious

let me laugh harder.

Ha ha ha, are you joking. Season one was an embarrassment, a total failure of narrative, a perfect storm of DO NOT WANT in every single way.

Hahahahahahaha.

I remember season one well. It was still shit. And season 2 up to Beginnings was bland and boring. Still need to see the last episodes cause apparently they're awesome?

Which I find sad as shit...I don't feel a show is very good OR strong if they have 4/5 great episodes AT THE END OF A SEASON, MUCH LESS A SECOND SEASON, when all the episodes before hand were piles of shit.

[personal profile] ryttu3k 2013-12-09 06:05 am (UTC)(link)
Book one STARTED well, that's the part that sucks. It had serious potential! The battle scene at the end of episode six is still one of my favourite battle scenes ever, it had moments that was really getting into stuff, like the curfew round-up where it looked like characters were going to get some development...

And then, over the last few episodes, it steadily crashed. Some good moments in there, yes, but it went downhill pretty sharply, and I was already feeling very dubious about it by Endgame. And not just for the love triangle - I was incredibly displeased with how they handled the main plot. "Oh, Amon has been discredited! Guess those non-benders can just go back to being systematically discriminated again!"

It was just that book 2 started bad and got worse that made me finally stop watching.
