Sherlock Holmes.

Yeah, predictable boring answer, but really. Sherlock Holmes. No other detective character has ever been quite as fascinating and magnetic to me as he.

The Rescue Rangers. They're more of a rescue team but there is totally detective work involved.

Do Shawn and Gus count? How about Veronica Mars? Castle? I don't think I have a favorite "real" detective.

My favorite is pretty much always going to be Sherlock Holmes, cause yeah.

But I also want to shout out Campion and Nero Wolfe, because they're so entertaining and I love both series immensely. Also Campion as played by Peter Davison is great. Also Dale Cooper and Mulder & Scully if they count.

Naoto Shirogane. I don't care what you think about the way her character and arc were handled, she's great.

Like ALL of them. I am such a detective fiction junkie, aaah!

And many, MANY more. I could totally also come up with a whole separate list for spy fiction, but I'll just simply rec Wish Me Luck for being an awesome female-lead espionage series (and based on real women at that).

Poirot too, though to a lesser extent. (I adore "Murder on the Orient Express", but some of the others stories just aren't for me.)

Gene Hunt (well, more favourite Detective Chief Inspector anyway)

Philip Marlowe.

I tend to just like the character type in general. I grew up watching the Poirot movies, reading Sherlock Holmes, into everything Batman (I hate when writers forget he's the World Greatest Detective, not just a ball of angst in a costume). I was totally into L from Death Note. I plan on starting to read the Poirot books, and Dupin.

Favorite is definitely Sherlock Holmes. I've had a strong fascination since I was a little kid.

Actually I like everyone else in that movie more than him, but he's the first one I thought of.

Sherlock Holmes. An uncreative choice, I guess, but it's the truth.

(How is he in new 52? I've learned the hard way not to read any Teen Titans that isn't the 1980 Wolfman run and Tim doesn't even have his own book anymore.)
