Yeah. I wish the author hadn't plagiarized a bunch of shit too, but she did, and I have no respect for her work because of it.

I have no respect for most of her work, but the LOTR Very Secret Diaries will always have a special place in my heart

I'm so glad this is the first comment, because: just this.

People act as though she didn't deserve to be called out on her plagiarism, because she plagiarised the good parts of things...like how does that make sense?

Oh, good, more Cassandra Clare wank. I love a good plagiarist, myself. Nothing says "read my stuff, it's awesome!" like finding out someone else wrote the best parts.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-15 09:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Willing to bet that the parts that make you think it the "best HP fic of all time" were the bits she stole from other people. Seriously, once I heard, I went to a random chapter and BINGO every line I liked or thought clever was.... not hers.

Yeah, let's try removing all the plagiarized (sorry, "pastiche") bits and seeing how good it is then.

Well... she really only has one teenage character type that she writes over and over with slight superficial variations, so....

(Anonymous) 2013-12-15 09:33 pm (UTC)(link)
lol, you make it sound as though the "plagiarism business" just happened to her, like she was happily typing away at her story and this thing just fell all over her like shit from a window twenty stories above.

Dude. It didn't happen to her. She deliberately lifted other people's exact words and ideas, pasted it into her 'work' and took credit for them. She made that business happen by being a cheat and a fraud.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-15 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL what's funny is that's how she acts when bad things happen to her, too-- she never has any part in it. like before the movie came out she was all over it and afterward she'd never had anything to do with it!

(Anonymous) 2013-12-15 09:33 pm (UTC)(link)
It brings me glee that the film of her terrible rehashed-fanfic book crashed and burned, idec.

*Snicker* I feel the same way.

I'm too vindictive and once I dislike an author I have no wish to spend any money on their stuff so I'm not going to read her books. I liked the Draco trilogy well enought at the time but never reread it. I don't recollect it fondly but I'm happy that you do and that you get an added injoyment from these books/movie thanks to its conection to HP.

Secret 6 - Draco Trilogy (Harry Potter fanfiction), Mortal Instruments: City of Bones (film & books)

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-12-15 09:53 pm (UTC)(link)
[Picture is a photograph of two actors from the "Mortal Instruments: City of Bones" movie?, next to a fanart cover of the fanfiction "Draco Sinister" by Cassandra Claire, showing Draco Malfoy wearing a cape and holding a sword while he sits on a window sill.]

While watching Mortal Instruments: City of Bones and looking at Jace I got the feeling that I knew him. Even more so when I listened to what he said. Like the story of his father killing his pet bird. I knew that story. So I started reading the book version of City of Bones. If you've read Cassandra Claire's Draco Trilogy you already know what I'm getting at.

Jace Wayland = Draco Trilogy!Draco Malfoy's personality and looks to the T.

The other main characters (Clary, Alec, Simon, Isabelle) could also be substitutes for Draco Trilogy!Ginny, Harry, Seamus, Ron, Blaise, etc. The similarities get to the point where the resemblance between the two stories is creepy. While in the ethical sense I do judge the author for copy pasting some pages of story and conversation from her past fanwork, I cannot help it but be glad that Draco Trilogy!Draco came to life on screen as Jamie Campbell Bower, as well as the Dragon Trilogy!Harry/Draco bromance in form of Alec/Jace.

I wish the Draco Trilogy didn't get tainted by the whole plagiarism business. I still consider it one of the best Harry Potter fics of all times.

I'm surprised to realise the movie actually happened, and that it was such a flop. At least Twilight author didn't plagiarise things

I cannot figure out what the hell most of this secret is saying, but I did laugh pretty hard at the last sentence, so I guess this is a pretty good secret in the end.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-16 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
I've never read or seen anything of hers, but knowing all the drama, I'm a little disappointed that they didn't cast Tom Felton as Jace. That would have had a nice "full circle" quality to it, though the guy was probably warned off by those in the loop.

I thought that Mortal Instruments was just like Fifty Shades in that it WAS fanfic that the author did a find/replace on all the names on?

The funniest thing about CC wank is that the same people who bitch about her PLAGIARISM!!!! in her HP fics are the same ones who claim her fic characters are nothing like they are in canon. And to be fair, no, they're totally uncanon versions of these characters. But the plagiarisim happened in other parts of the fanfiction, not parts that were carried over into the published work.

So between the claims of crappy characterisation (which is true, because they're really poor interpretations of HP characters, but are at least consistent with themselves) and the fact that none of the plagiarized lines in her fanfic stuff was in her published stuff... what exactly are we still bitching about?

I have no dog in this fight, but really... wtf are we complaining about, here. Fanfic from 10 years ago, or the published characters that were inspired by but CLEARLY not accurate to HP characters? (Like another commenter, this reminds me of 50 Shades. It might be terrible fiction, but that doesn't mean it was immoral in its publishing.)

The best HP fic ever? Really?

Methinks you haven't read much HP fics, OP, no offense, but the fandom is ridiculously talented, and most of them didn't even have to copy huge chunks from Pamela Dean's book and make pureblooded, conservatively-brought up children quote Buffy =P

I'm still mad that no one calls her out on her shitty titles.

Draco Veritas? Seriously?

I care about this more than about the plagiarism.

Well...yeah. Except the incest stuff is from a Ron/Ginny fic.
