I don't know why there was such a fervor either. I mean, if Joan and Sherlock slept together I would understand it--we were promised they'd remain platonic, so I'd get pissed if they got together even though I ship it in fandom--but do people want her to be a monk or something? They got along, they found each other attractive and intelligent, and I bet they had a lovely time.

I loved them too, OP. This is my favorite version of the story. And they were two of my favorite characters. I rewatched this recently, and I love it as much as ever.

If someone's main interest is slash and their slashy OTPs I really don't see how that is at all "missing the point". The point of fandom is to have fun. What point exactly is it missing, other than not doing fandom the specific way you do fandom?
