My girlfriend's comment after Catching Fire was that her acting "wasn't distractingly bad" so you're not alone.

I'm a terrible judge of acting talent so I couldn't say if I agree or disagree.

I agree. She has no range, and in movies she always looks like she's been Botoxed -- her face rarely moves.

I don't think she's extraordinary (and certainly not so great that she should have received an Oscar at 21), but I do think she's a fairly good actress and she has lots of talent. And I can well imagine that she'll get better in the next years as she becomes more experienced and hopefully keeps getting interesting roles.

I think she's a bit overhyped now, but in a way it's understandable because she's a young actress who's at least somewhat talented instead of just being skinny and pretty.

Not that I always agree with them, but a lot of other people (audiences, directors, fellow actors, etc.) seem to think she's great.

Is it based on one particular performance? Because a lot of things contribute to a performance, not just acting - writing, directing, editing, etc. and if any of those suck, it can sink a performance. But if you've seen her in more than one role (because she's had a lot of diversity in her career), then you're probably not going to change your mind (not that you have to, it's your opinion and you're entitled to it).

I think she's a good actress, and I adored Silver Linings Playbook, but I don't think that was really an Oscar worthy performance (IMO Bradley Cooper was better in that movie). But it was probably the good old "well we didn't give her an Oscar for Winter's Bone so.... now it's time!" logic that dictates so much of the Oscars lately.

Man, I don't know: I feel like she's good in the really stoic roles (Katniss, her character in Winter's Bone) but playing anything else, it's a spectrum from "eh" to "please stop". And her own personality is so different from the Katniss stuff that...I feel like she must at least have some skill. Just at that one role, I guess.

I like her and I think she's a good actress. That being said, I do think that seeing her everywhere is getting a bit tiring. Of course, that's probably not her doing but her publicists trying to get her as much exposure as possible while she's at her most popular. She doesn't strike me as someone who wants to be in the limelight too much.

She's talented. I've always thought so since I watched Winter Bone, back when I had no idea who she was (didn't watch Hunger Games until a year after it was released). But now that she's so overexposed, I'm beginning to see the limits of her range. She's so young, though, that I don't think this is something that can't be overcome.

But it's true, she robbed Jessica Chastain of that Oscar.

You can dislike her performance, even several of them; that's a thing of taste. But calling someone that clearly can portray nuanced emotion a "mediocre actress" is just a fallacy.

I think she's a very good actress -- I just don't think she's even half as good as people make her out to be.

To be fair, part of it is just bitterness over the fact that she beat Emmanuelle Riva for the oscar. I don't understand how anyone who saw Amour could pick Jennifer Lawrence over her. Or Jessica Chastain, for that matter. I still would have prefered Riva, but would have been far less annoyed if it had been Chastain who had beaten her.

I liked Jennifer Lawrence more in Winter's Bone than Silver Linings Playbook.
