Considering he's so popular for such a minor character, you wouldn't be the only one OP

Don't be in denial: he gets eoten, dies and his body is cremated in volume 4. And no, he won't come back, it's just a delusional theory that makes no sense. But you'll see him again as a background character in flashbacks from time to time.

I don't really understand the tumblr love for Marco. Is it because he was friends with Jean?

Probably yes. I suppose they enjoy shipping him with Jean.

Yep, and everyone ignores that Jean freely tells Marco that he has the hots for Mikasa. While making Jean and Marco passionate gay lovers.

We all know the one Jean trully wants is Armin dressed up as a girl. Latest chapter confirmed it.

That, and there's this famous scene where Jean's insists that he's not cut out for leadership and Marco says that's not true, that he's great at analysing situations and that his orders are the only reason why Marco was still alive.

It's a nice scene of friendship between two people but fans like to act that Marco was goddamn proposing.

We'll always have fanstuff. No one can take that away.

I still don't get Tumblr's obsession with him. He appeared very briefly and got fridged to make Jean more serious.

Anime made him a way bigger deal then he was in the manga.
They make Jean think about Marco more in the anime, whereas in the manga Marco's death inspired Jean to get his shit together and move on. He wasn't crying, 'Marco, Marco' in the manga.

The anime tryed too hard to pander to shippers when the manga does not. I mean, in the last episode all that shit with Eren and Mikasa was actually Armin & Eren moments in the manga :/

I was about to point the same things out. Too much pandering in the anime because the fujoshi made JeanMarco popular.

I disagree. The anime expanded things quite a bit, like character relationships, and I don't think that Jean having a small moment of missing his best friend is pandering to shipping. Hell, it'd be even weirder if he never mentioned Marco again.

Marco was such a sweetheart. It's so easy to get attached to him, but I think that's because the author was trying to hurt us with his death.

I won't be in denial about his death, but I do miss him as well.

Marco is cute, though it annoys me at times what fandom makes of him and his relationship with Jean.

Marco is the perfect saint and Jean hung up on him even after 10+ years. Ugh, can't people write him more like a normal person and can't they also stop writing a Jean that's so pathetically dependent on him that he's nearly unrecognizable?

I don't even mind JeanMarco, but the insistence of making them the perfect true love couple robs the ship of a lot of its appeal.

It's because the fandom is made up of mostly younguns. Unrealistic, childish characterizations abound.

No kidding. I like the ship but goddamn do people act like its the most tragic love story since Romeo and Juliet. A lot of the 'popular' fanfics play this up to the greatest degree to the point it makes me want to puke.

Especially one called Wisteria, which tried to justify cheating and codependence and general pathetic behavior under the guise of TWU WUV. Guh.

Yeah, same here. Doesn't help that this melodramatic drivel is popular. Is it to much to ask for an awkward teenage romance with (more) realistic problems?

And thanks for confirming my prejudices against Wisteria. Reading the summary I already suspected as much. Guess my instincts are in working order.

When I started to read the manga, I was so confused as why people shipped Marco/Jean like burning and loved Marco so much. I totally thought he was going to pull an Eren and come back to life. But nope. Still dead. And still Jean/Marco eludes me (besides the normal: they talked, were friends, so they must have boned thinking).

I got attached to a lot of the minor characters in this series. The author seems to like giving you just enough to fall for these characters and then crushing all your hope.

You could always follow the MarcoBodt-Is-Dead Tumblr to help with the denial.

I'm wondering how this is a secret because about 99% of fandom adores this guy. It'd be a secret if you said you hated him and was happy he was dead.

i am amazed anyone could care about any of the 2 dimensional, whiny, inconsequential side characters that populate SNK. i can't even remember their names

He got partially eaten...? All this time I thought he had been partially stomped on by you-know-who. My life is a lie.

I wouldn't blame you for getting attached. Tumblr (and fandom in general?) has this weird obsession with him. Fanonwise, I find his friendship with Marco adorable, but don't ship it. Mangawise its like the author made him just to fridge him (but you could say that about a lot of characters).
