I've seen it interpreted as a metaphor for both being closeted and hiding a mental illness and I've been having fun picking out the parts of Let It Go that feel like it fits more with one than the other. It's definitely not a perfect 1:1 comparison but there were times when I almost started tearing up during Elsa's story because it hit so close to home, so I understand where people are coming from when they get defensive.

so I understand where people are coming from when they get defensive.

And basically bash other people's feelings.

I'm talking about the impulse, not the execution.

This is one of those things where I've never seen what's being complained about. I've never actually seen someone insist that their headcanon was canon. What I have seen is a lot of people going "well I guess you're free to think that if you want but remember it's definitely not canon" in this weirdly emphatic way when the person they're talking to has never claimed that it's canon.

That, and her song sounded like coming out.

Does sound pretty much like anon thinks it's the absolute truth.

That is not how I read that at all.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-11 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Then you give people a lot more leeway than I do. If it's written as a factual statement, it's meant to be a factual statement.

Sounded does not mean absolute truth. Anon didn't say "that, and her song is about coming out" <- that is absolute truth. Anon is instead stating how they took it, then getting leaped on by assholes.please recheck your reading comprehension because all wank about this so far has always been people shitting on others for interpretating, identifying and headcanoning it as coming out.

People have interpretations. They're going to talk about their interpretation. Stop being an ass about it.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-11 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
They didn't say "sounded to me," they said sounded as in "that's SO obvious duh, how can you not walk away having gotten that interpretation from that song." Which, eh.

Anon said that the song sounded like she was coming out, not that she was actually coming out.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-11 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
What the hell. NO I never meant that.

They're not saying "Her song is a coming-out song". Only that it sounds like one.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-11 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
You are exaggerating on purpose.
sarillia: (Default)

[personal profile] sarillia 2014-01-11 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow, usually I get the other way around. I exaggerate and people take me completely seriously for some reason. Now I post something that sounds nothing like exaggeration to me and you're saying this? Weird.

All I can say is that I'm speaking the absolute truth. It may be a very different experience from what most people here have come across but it's my experience.

You must, lol. I've seen some INCREDIBLE shit on that site.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-11 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I definitely read it as (being an applicable metaphor for) hiding a mental illness. And really, when you look at Elsa, she is not an entirely healthy young woman at that stage of the movie.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-11 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
...Because she's introverted?

(Anonymous) 2014-01-11 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
She's not introverted.

k

(Anonymous) 2014-01-11 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
She didn't choose to be locked up for 10+ years and "conceal don't feel", after all.

Uh, no, because she's spent more than a decade living in fear of her powers and avoiding people to keep her secret from slipping. She might be someone who naturally prefers solitude and quiet over big noisy crowds (although given how much she seemed to be enjoying the party after her coronation and that scene at the end where she shows off her powers for the whole kingdom, I don't know if that's the case), but her situation before her coronation was clearly unhealthy even if she was an introvert.

[identity profile] mimi-sardinia.livejournal.com 2014-01-12 05:15 am (UTC)(link)
It's an introversion that was forced on her, not one natural to her.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-13 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
...because she has severe anxiety and panic attacks?
