Yeah, she was probably my favorite character in the first book but I slowly began to dread her chapters and now I can barely stand reading them. Don't even get me started on the show.. I think the actress who plays her is very beautiful and people obsess over her a little more because of that, which is perfectly fine but she is pretty annoying haha.

Uh, some will disagree with you. I have yet to get passed the book for Game of Thrones, but show wise? I'm finally catching up with season 3 and that whole damn episode where she gets the slave army is FUCKING AWESOME.

Dany's been pretty awesome, to me, as far as the show goes.

She's still awesome in the books, I don't care what anyone says. She's also younger, so crushing is out. And sometimes she acts a bit her age, which some fans seem to take as meaning she's now dull or awful. Which I don't agree with.

Yeah, she get's raped pretty early on and then takes classes in how to sexually please her husband/rapist.

She is most certainly not awesome. If you're looking for a strong female character you will not find one in any works written by GRRM.

Okay, the way GRRM set up the character is -- you can definitely make a very strong argument -- squicky.

What the character does with that setup is strong.

It is, however, worth taking into account that this series isn't set in a modern, relatively liberated setting/country/culture and that she pretty much learns to do things that help her survive, like any other female character in the setting.

Given that she's pretty much leading an army and has people following her when she's about fourteen or whatever in the book series, she's pretty strong. She has weak moments, but those are what make her human instead of intolerably dull.

I only watched the show and I love her so far. I'm told that with GRRM characters this can change and be undone just as quickly, but fuck it, she's still one of my fav female heroines.

I am not a fan of the series (watched the first season and haven't read the books) and I didn't really like anyone, to disclaim.

But on a purely aesthetic level, I first thought this actress was really weird looking and unattractive. Can't explain why (maybe the eyebrows against the pale hair?), she was just a major turn off and I couldn't understand all the gushing. But seeing her plastered all over the Internet, her features have really grown on me and now I think she's super cute and I like most of the costumes I see her wear.

Dany is one of my favorites o/ I think you best see for yourself, OP. I'm not far into the series, but I've loved her on the books. Even in the fifth. (And I really like the actess. Fuck the haters.)

Spoilers for A Dance With Dragons (in white text):

The narration does get a bit dull, but that's not the character's fault. Not even Martin's - it's more of a plot thing. She also has some "typically teenage" moments, which has earned her some detractors. But I don't think that's really a crime because... she's a teenager? She has a lot on her plate and was left widowed quite earlier, I don't mind if after all that has happened and the time passed she looks at a dude.

She was the only thing I enjoyed about the first book, and the only clips from the show that I like. I'd read an entire epic about nothing but Dany, but then I'm a huge sucker for a hero's journey from girl to queen, instead of the faaaaar more common boy to king.

She's pretty awesome in that she's one of the only people in the show who isn't despicable. But she's making some fairly dodgy decisions lately.

I think she's pretty damn badass.(I haven't read the books) Can't wait for Season 4.
