TW: Pregnancy

(Anonymous) 2014-01-15 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
Unless they have or knows someone who has had tragic or otherwise unfortunate pregnancy complications, I just want to tell people who get freaked and/or grossed out by pregnancy in general* to grow the fuck up.

* Not BEING pregnant, I get why the being pregnant or the idea of personally becoming pregnant can be freaky or gross, but this whole "OMG, I saw a pregnant person (or worse, character) - BLAAARF!!! *has shakes*" bullshit is childish.

Re: TW: Pregnancy

(Anonymous) 2014-01-15 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
Glad you clarified there at the end, because yeah the idea of me being pregnant totally freaks me out and I don't think that's childish.

But yeah, I agree with your point. I have a friend that never wants to be a parent but she goes to the extreme where she is disgusted and hates pregnant women. Like she's always talking about how fat and gross and horrifying they are and how they should just stay home etc. And how children are disgusting and ruin lives etc It's so annoying and stupid. I don't talk to this friend much.

(suicide tw)

the idea of being pregnant is my literal worst nightmare, and even seeing anyone pregnant leads to those thoughts, so i try to avoid it

it's not that i think it's gross, it's that even the hint of it makes me think thoughts that make me want to die

and i really should have avoided this thread i am an idiot

Seeing a pregnant woman out in public makes you want to die? You might want to see someone about that.

Maybe you should die? You're not helping the species, and I personally find your anti-woman bullshit to be the kind of thing we could all do without.

Agreed. I find pregnancy fascinating and pretty gross. It does squick me out, but pregnant people don't disgust me. I don't freak out when I see one or act like an ass. I don't get people who do.

Re: TW: Pregnancy

(Anonymous) 2014-01-15 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
This is reminding me of the huge wank over the anon who went into a frothing rage over a secret depicting a pregnant woman, and demanded a trigger warning for the "disgusting pregnant belly."

Re: TW: Pregnancy

(Anonymous) 2014-01-15 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
As a trans man I can only say a hearty fuck you. It's not childish, it's pretty fucking disgusting to think of people being pregnant on a personal level to me, regardless of whether or not it's actually me.

This is not to say I'm scared of pregnant people, I just don't want to read about it when I'm into my escapism and I don't care about the bullshit drama that usually accompanies it. Also, I don't give a single fuck about babies in general; don't even get me started on the walking bags of disease that are children.

There's nothing at all redeeming about pregnancy fic, because actual pregnancy is about the most disgusting human function of all time. In fic, sure it's all magic and sunshine and miracles, in real life it's vomiting, edema, diabetes, inexplicable rage and tears, and taking a big ol' shit on the delivery table.

Dude, if you don't like it, SCROLL. Do you really think people should stop writing pregnancy/kidfic just to make you happy? Nobody is making you read it.

Nobody is making you have kids either. No need to be such an ass about it.

You have issues. Grow up and do something about it.

Re: TW: Pregnancy

(Anonymous) 2014-01-15 03:34 am (UTC)(link)
I haven't had any or know anyone who has had any sort of horrible pregnancy, and I still think I have a right to find pregnant bodies horrifying to see. I'm not going to freak out about it and demand people hide away at home to spare my sensibilities, but it still disgusts me and it has nothing to do with 'growing the fuck up'.

It's even worse because I follow a few large bust bloggers that have gotten pregnant and continue to do pictures for reviews - which i get must be a great resource for others, but seeing grotesquely swollen abdomens without even the slightly safer layer of clothing makes me feel sick. The whole idea of a parasite growing inside another person gives me the shivers and I always have this (totally irrational) fear that they are going to pop or something, ugh.

I still just scroll way faster though.

Re: TW: Pregnancy

(Anonymous) 2014-01-15 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
You do realize that referring to a fetus as a "parasite" is horribly offensive to a lot of us here who happen to feel very differently about the subject, right?

See, I was about to comment asking if the attitude you described was a thing because I'd never seen that before.

Then I read the thread.

WHAT THE EVER LOVING FUCK?

Because, I can understand people wanting something like 'pregnancy' labels on a fic (these can have some pretty bad associations for people due to past experiences), but being squicked out by the sheer idea of pregnancy or seeing a pregnant person at all?! *so confused* SINCE WHEN IS THIS A THING?!

Re: TW: Pregnancy

(Anonymous) 2014-01-15 07:06 am (UTC)(link)
IKR? It's like being disgusted by old people. Oh no, look at those grotesque wrinkled faces! That disgusting grey hair! People should keep that shit out of media!

Re: TW: Pregnancy

[personal profile] elialshadowpine 2014-01-15 09:21 am (UTC)(link)
It is a thing with severe tokophobia (fear of pregnancy). I'm not going to say that the posters oughtn't seek out help if they're able, because man, it has to be rough having dysphoric reactions at the mere mention of pregnancy or sight of a pregnant person, but mental health access in a lot of areas is still shit. But it is actually a real condition, same as other extreme phobias.

(I have a milder form. I don't have a problem with pregnancy or pregnant people in general, but applied to myself? Holy shit, dysphoria, panic attacks, breakdowns, it's not pretty.)

Re: TW: Pregnancy

(Anonymous) 2014-01-15 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
IDK.

on the one hand, I understand some of the opinions voiced above, about how pregnancy can be pretty freaky. I, myself, am a bit weirded out by the thought of becoming pregnant.

but on the other hand - there are actual people who are attached to those pregnant bodies. people who are clearly comfortable with it, and most of whom willingly chose to become pregnant because they want a baby.

on top of all the physical symptoms and mountains of bullshit "advice" they get, I think it's rude to expect them to move out of your field of vision because you think they're disgusting.
