You too?

I really felt the same. Also, all your conversations seem to revolve around it. It would have been nice to, you know, talk about your sudden love for her. Then maybe discuss that since you two are so close it would be nice to find a sterile room somewhere...

Also, I would like to feel better about her young age. Please give me some lip service that she grew up a lot in the two years Shepard was dead.

Oh god, I hadn't even thought of the paedophilia angle. Yes. definitely very skeevy and rapey.

[personal profile] forgottenjester 2014-01-17 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
It's not quite pedophilia but it's a large enough age gap to make me uncomfortable.

Finding a sterile room would have been a nice step as in ME1 and ME2, Tali talked about the atmospheric contagions etc in detail and how low Quarian immune systems are. Like don't Quarians have to take a bunch of antibiotic supplements and immune-boosters if they remove their suit?

If I was Shepard, a night of sexing wouldn't be worth the possibility that you know, Tali could die.

Pretty much quarians have to go through a long ass ordeal to not only get used to an environment but also each other. In this time they will get sick. As for if they can die, it goes back and forth. Some say they will and some say they won't.

However, I still wouldn't risk her becoming incredibly ill just before the most important mission in the galaxy.

yeah this. nothing about that makes sense at all, it's just plain bad writing

I always thought it was, well, slightly rapey. I don't bring that up much because of douchebag male gamer neckbeards, but yeah, she technically consented to it, but given how dangerous it is for her, I have to wonder how genuine her consent was.

Wait okay what?

[personal profile] insanenoodlyguy 2014-01-17 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
I know, I know, que "mansplaining" but now I'm being troll free. How does the fact it was a risk for her alter her consent?

"Oh no, I sure don't want to keep feeling not sick! This pressure is too great... I must sleep with this man and be horribly ill afterward! THERE IS NO OTHER CHOICE!"

I think you have a point here that you aren't expressing well? Because otherwise this just isn't clicking here.

OP here:

A person obviously still has the right to engage in potentially dangerous sexual behavior if they so choose. The problem is that Shepard's her commanding officer in some sense, so he's putting her (and by extension the entire mission) at risk. It's also uncharacteristically selfish of Tali (though I can understand that she might have gotten carried away—still, it's the CO's responsibility to keep that in check). She knows that the ship's depending on her.

I can't imagine everyone in the crew being okay with it either. You figure Jacob would at least have a problem with that.

OP, what your talking about is a bad decision. Now if you want to say they fucked up, I disagree, but I understand your argument.

The anon I initially responded to was talking about consent.

But that said... Jacob. Having a problem with sleeping with a superior officer.

"heavy risk. But the prizzzzeee"

No, I'm suggesting the pressure to sleep with him, to "please her man" was so great that she ignored her personal safety. If it was a loving truly consenting relationship, he would have not gone through with something that could harm her. so it reads to me that he just only wanted the sex and she felt she had no choice but to give in even if it would be dangerous.

*shrug*

[personal profile] insanenoodlyguy 2014-01-17 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
She wanted it just as much as him. And said it was worth it after the fact and a game later. (Of course I went for my Quarian Waifu until my Blue Waifu returned)

Re: *shrug*

(Anonymous) 2014-01-17 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
that's not the point. if someone you loved expressed desire in doing something life-threatening for them and you actively participated then it's still kind of weird and fucked up of you. she could have gotten really sick or died. just because she agreed to it doesn't mean it's any less dangerous and therefore kind of inconsiderate of her situation as a quarian. romance who you want but i agree with op that it would have been nice to make the sexual aspect of the romance opt-out if wanted. to a lot of us that would have been way more romantic than putting her life in danger

Yeah, that's why Shepard and her both apparently sought out the best sex doctor ever.

Oh man, I love Tali. Always wanted to romance her but haven't yet. I'm still disappointed you couldn't romance her as a woman; at one point I almost thought it was heading there but nopeeeeee.

Anyway, despite not having romanced her this bothered me too. Knowing that you can have sex with her in an environment that isn't necessarily safe for her seems like a dumb risk. Can you TELL her that? That you want to be with her but that you're willing to wait until later?

(Anonymous) 2014-01-17 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
OP:

Nope, and you really should have been able to.

Fortunately, headcanon to the rescue.

That is very disappointing, and an odd thing to leave out. :(

I love BioWare's romances but like everything, they def aren't perfect.

I just wish I could have romanced her as Femshep. :c I tried doing a Mshep run just for the romance but I can't deal with playing as him, ugh.
I reckon she avoided infection by the power of dudebro fanservice. :/ It does on the whole seem pretty irresponsible, from both sides of the relationship.

I just wished I could have romanced her as fem!Shep, then Garrus would have had actual competition when I came to choosing my romance option(but I also am happy to have Tali be my bff).

As for the health thing I think it was more the writers not really thinking about Tali's weak immune system properly and just going with 'people want to be able to bone Tali, so lets let them bone Tali!'. Should it have been better thought through however? Yes.

Much as I love the games a fair few of the romance options are not... terribly well done.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-17 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
I like Tali but I feel like the only one not interested in romancing her. She felt like a little sister even to dudeshep.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-17 06:09 am (UTC)(link)
Haven't played a dudeshep yet but I totally agree. I find the popularity of Femshep/Tali completely baffling. I suppose I understand the desire for her to be romanceable for those who find her attractive and want to play Femshep, but as a pairing, thinking of Shepard as a character rather than a player avatar - no thanks.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-17 09:55 am (UTC)(link)
i just can't with the people in this thread calling it rape because it was dangerous for tali. she doesn't know what's good for her! it was shepards responsibility to tell her that she can't decide what to do with her own body!

you people...

Seriously.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-21 03:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Has anybody in this thread even played the Tali romance? Because guess what: it's her decision. Shepard tells her that he doesn't want her to risk her safety and that he's willing to wait, but she chooses to take the risk. She chooses to pursue a relationship with her commanding officer. She chooses to jump his bones the instant he gets her mask off.

Honestly, it's like some of you didn't even play the goddamned game.
