Yes, anon, that is petty.

If you're talking about her lazy eye (which it seems you are), then please stop thinking that way about lazy eyes. The reason people, like my brother, who have it are really self-conscious about it and/or have been (I know he was growing up) is because people make a much bigger deal about it than it really is.

And if that's not it...whatever it is that's bugging you about her eyes, it's really shallow. so yeah.

Wow, it never occurred to me this was petty and shallow. Such enlightenment.

You know, since I'm posting it as a secret here and all.

Wow, it never occurred to me that you might already know that.

Since, you know, you even mentioned it in your secret!

Imagine someone sharing their opinion on it. Crazy, innit.

+1

as someone who actually has a slight strabismus depending on where i'm looking, i can tell you that it's probably my #1 insecurity about my appearance and i'm incredibly self-conscious about positioning my head when i converse with people

reading this secret really didn't fucking help

Same here - lazy eye, to the point of pretty much blindness. It took me until I was almost 30 to start regularly looking people in the eye when I was talking to them, because I worried that they'd think it was gross or weird for how my eyes don't move in unison, and one creeps inward. And now, we have confirmation that I was right.

I'm sorry if the OP can't get over something simple like this. But I'm super glad it didn't keep that actress out from in front of the camera, because it's a really crappy feeling, the feeling that you have to keep your eyes averted lest you put some judgemental person off.

Out of curiosity, did anyone even try to fix his lazy eye? I ask because I had one that was way off (nearly 20° iirc) and got it fixed without surgery. I wore a patch and did eye exercises (stare at this from this angle, etc etc) and in about a year my eyes were perfectly aligned.

Yeah, he wore a patch as a toddler, and had some eye surgery (though I'm not sure if it was for that, for his astigmatism, or for something else - I was also a toddler at the time). He's also worn glasses/contacts since he was two. I do think his strabismus has improved over time, but I haven't asked him about it since, again, self-conscious. (He and I have kind of a weird relationship right now and we're not super close. We can talk extensively about some personal things and totally avoid others.) If an opening arises I may ask him out of curiosity.

How do you suggest people stop noticing something that is literally staring (or not) them in the face?

(Anonymous) 2014-02-11 02:37 am (UTC)(link)
NAYRT but I'd suggest they try not to dwell on it so much, I guess. It's never made sense to me how people can get so hung up on appearances, especially such little things. I notice them too, but I don't let them "bother me".

Would you ask the same about a person with a really obvious scar or birthmark or something else?

Of course you're gonna notice it. You just don't need to broadcast your discomfort with a facial feature that's totally out of their control.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-11 05:50 pm (UTC)(link)
NAYRT but I think you're reading more into this than is really there. This is fandom secrets where fans can anonymously post secrets about fandom stuff. It's one thing to see someone with a birthmark or scar or lazy eye and say something insensitive to them about it; it's another to post a secret here saying that it's uncomfortable to look at such things. No, it's not nice, but that's what makes it a secret.

Yes? I'm not sure what your point is. People are allowed to comment on the secrets with their opinions as well.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-11 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
sorry, but as someone who has a tendency to crooked eyes where realizing a person's eyes are going cross eyed is actually making me go cross eyed (and not in the fun way), I can understand OP having a problem with it.

No it's not nice and no it's not the actress' fault but it is something you can't just 'grow out' of one moment to the next.

Also I don't think OP was actually making fun of the actress so much as acknowledging that yes they have a problem, no it's not nice, still it's there.
