People you thought you knew.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-23 10:13 pm (UTC)(link)
So recently I've been watching To Catch A Predator on Youtube and then went to the Family Watchdog site on a whim to see what registered sex offenders are in my city. And coincidentally the first random dot I clicked on happened to be a guy I knew from high school. I nearly shit myself out of shock. The guy had been charged with sending inappropriate photos electronically to a 14 year old. And I just couldn't believe it. I mean, I remember this guy back when he was 17 and I would have never suspected he would do such a creepy thing.

So have any of you guys on FS ever found out someone you thought you knew was doing something creepy and/or illegal?

I think I've mentioned once that a friend of my parents ended up cutting his wife into pieces and storing her body on the balcony of the flat they lived in with their three kids.

I'd never really liked him, but we had played with him and made small talk to him and done some other random stuff. I was unpleasantly shocked when he was arrested. This incident is one of these things that really taught me not to trust any casual acquaintances.

holy crap. That's like, one of those things you only hear about on the news or urban legends. I cannot imagine knowing something like that happened in my community, let alone from someone I knew.

I honestly have no desire to know who is a sex offender in my community. For one, it'd make me super nervous, and for another, I kinda hate how all sex offenders are grouped together when, imo, the crimes are not all equal.

Please tell me you're trolling.

Is it true that you can get on one of those lists for public urination or for having sex with your 17-year old girlfriend when you're 18?

I introduced two friends to each other and they eventually got together but broke up a year later because he found out she was stealing money from him. I felt a bit guilty later on but when it happened I was just flabbergasted. The break up was a huge trainwreck and they kept asking me to take their side and it all was so dramatic. It's been three years now and in retrospect I find it pretty hilarious.

A professor at my school was arrested for taking photos up girls' skirts with a pen camera. I didn't know him personally but he was the advisor for the geek club and had seemed like a great guy.

I was working in this kitchen last school year, with this great cook, and I feel like I learned a lot from him, and he didn't treat me like "lol a dumb college student", you know?

So then, mid-year, we get an email telling us that, yes, the college knows that it has a registered sex-offender working on campus, and they have rules in place for that, regarding where he was allowed to take his breaks, and what not. Apparently the guy had already served his jail sentence, which was why he had been hired.

Yeah, it was the cool cook. Awkward. :/

I knew a guy who ended up killing his girlfriend's newly discovered lover. He was the friend of a guy I did work for. We ate together a day before shit went down...

There was a Teacher at my school who had his own porn site with his wife. It apparently involved drinking piss. He wasn't even fired for that. My school was ridiculously liberal.

Re: People you thought you knew.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-23 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
...why should he have been fired? I mean, I understand that students should NOT have found out about this and it isn't appropriate, but it's not like what he did was illegal? I could understand transferring him to a different school, though.

I mean, it doesn't seem wise to have sexually explicit images of yourself on the internet when you're a teacher, but if it was him and his wife, then it was probably completely consensual so it's not like there was really a moral issue in play.

If he and his wife are both fully aware of this website and consented to create it together, then why is it any of your business? What they're doing is not illegal and they certainly didn't go out of their way to promote it to minors.

I know of three teachers that eventually got in trouble for "dating" students. One bus driver that went to jail for molesting his son, and the son went on to molest a kid at school. Another bus driver was fired for making sexually explicit comments to girls on his bus. And I know at least one kid a couple years younger than me that got in trouble for having kiddie porn. All this in a relatively small town.

My dad got a call from my old elementary school because they were investigating a child sex abuse claim about a PE teacher who'd been there since I was a student. I remember that particular teacher was one a lot of us didn't like, but I never really knew why. I didn't like him because the other kids didn't and I was a follower. Now I wonder how many of them had better reasons that I (maybe nobody) never knew about at the time.

I used to play D&D with a guy who was convicted of molesting the young sons of one of our mutual friends and did time for it. He maintained his innocence throughout, but the evidence against him as I recall was pretty damning. He was kind of a creepy neckbeard type and used to stink to high heaven, but until it happened we all thought he was pretty harmless.

Not me, but my father used to tell a story about the guy from the book and movie Not Without My Daughter--the husband who took his daughter with him to Iran and then wouldn't let her return, forcing his wife to go over there and smuggle them both back to the U.S. My dad was working as an ambulance driver at the hospital where this creep worked, and he said you'd never imagine he could do such a thing. He seemed like a perfectly nice, normal guy.

I watched that when I was like 15 and really sick - one of those super late-night.early-morning kinds of movies, you know? I got so depressed I cried. And I was already sick and feeling shitty, so being even more snot-ridden and having trouble breathing sure didn't help. XD

Couple of years after I graduated highschool my woodworking teacher was convicted for pedophilia. He got along really well with a friend of mine, so we all hope he didn't do anything with her.

He was really nice and I thought he was cool :(

I had a professor that all the undergrads thought was crazy--in the sense that she couldn't plan a lesson to save her life, and always went off on weird rants and tangents, was petty and vindictive, and was unprofessional and kinda creeped everyone out...but we thought she was the type to write vicious anonymous blog posts or, like, quit her job one day suddenly and go live somewhere she didn't think was so 'uncivilized'.

What she actually did was walk into a faculty meeting and shoot 6 of her fellow professors in the head, all of whom I knew. Turns out when she was young she shot her brother in what was ruled an accident but now seems to have been an attempt to kill her father, and there was also a bomb threat she made. Great background check there guys.

TW rape

(Anonymous) 2014-02-25 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
One of the kids I played tag and caught tadpoles in the creek with, back in my old neighborhood, later raped his girlfriend.

He was taking her home after they had gone out, and on the way, he picked up a hitchhiker--who then pulled a knife and ordered him to rape the girl. Except that my neighbor had set the whole thing up beforehand with the much younger kid who posed as the hitchhiker: it was a conspiracy to enable him to rape his girlfriend and look as if he were a victim too. And maybe he hoped to pressure her into marrying him--IIRC, he actually took the girl to talk to the priest at the local Catholic church (that's where he met her) and went home with her and talked to her parents and offered to marry her.

They caught the hitchhiker, though, and the whole story fell apart. He went away for a long time--not as long as he deserved, though.
