Happy birthday! I hope you've had a nice one?

Re: Do you observe Lent? if so, what are you giving up this year?

[personal profile] lunabee34 2014-03-05 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
I've been bad about observing Lent since I converted to Catholicism.

I tend to think of Lent as a time of transformation rather than deprivation, though, so if I do participate this year, I will probably focus on trying to transform some of my bad habits or adopt something positive rather than depriving myself of something I enjoy.

There are a couple of things which you may want to also try if you're afraid you might be sensitive to diazepines (which make up most of the prescribed sleep aids, though there are others). I'd caution you that neither of them is something you should really take habitually, but here are some options:

Lorazepam (Ativan) often has drowsiness as a side effect, though it is mainly used as an antianxiety/antipsychotic medication. You can ask your primary care physician about this one, though it's more of a last resort measure than something you should be using continually.

Good ol' Jim Beam (or liquor of your choice). It's perhaps not ideal, and not recommended if you're on other medication which might interact with it, but a shot before bed is a time tested cure for insomnia that might work well for you. It's also not likely to be harmful if you stick to one drink per day, and if you don't want to go to the trouble of asking for a prescription then this might be a solution for slightly more regular use.

I hope you find something that works. Insomnia is a serious problem and can be incredibly damaging to your overall health if it's not brought under control.

Mispronunciation of words.

I live in the South, born and raised. When you say Pecan as "Pee-can" or caramel as anything other than "carah-mul", I vein pop like whoa.

And don't get me started on people who mispronounce Arkansas as "Ar-Kansas."

It's irrational, but I literally cannot with other pronunciations.

It's written by Kunihiko Ikuhara, aka The Guy Who Did Utena. That sort of thing is pretty much par for the course with him.

I doubt they buy all that stuff solely for the purpose of commissions, though. Usually artists with such costly equipment do something art related for a living and need the stuff whether someone from fannish circles will ask them for commissions or not. There's a number of factors you'd all have to consider on both sides of the issue (some artists get their software free from their school, for example or discounts on art supplies), but it comes down to the bottom line that for fanart/fanfic commissions, there isn't a definite difference where one of them is inherently more expensive for the producer. You can't live off of either.

P.S.: I'd say that Scrivener offers a bit more than a "fancy note-taker." YMMV, of course.

Tbh, that article has a lot of things wrong about American dating, I think the main problem being that they are comparing their real life with our movies? I'm sure there are a lot of fascinating differences between our cultures but there really is no one "dating experience" here and it's really, really not like the movies. Getting together with someone you meet in a large group of friends isn't really a strange idea to me, for example.

But you know what's funny? At size 14-16 I am healthier then I have ever been and have a way higher quality of life from when I was struggling to be smaller. I was constantly hungry and feeling like crap physically and emotionally because I wasn't eating enough but still couldn't lose enough to be 'normal'.

I'm down, although 'Merica is pretty well known and I don't know what I would add except: "Did you know that in America WE HAVE FREEDOM."

In all seriousness, I'm down. This sounds interesting.

Is this some tumblr joke that I'm missing out on?

No, it's "what are your thoughts about yaoi" joke with a f!s-themed joke about fleshlight anon.

I also heard 'womun.' I asked how that was spelled, and yup, it's with a u.

PS. Not that I think I need to particularly, but I should caution that you should never use any combination of non-prescription or prescription drugs and alcohol together as a general rule. I would hope that this is common sense, but I'll just leave this as a PSA.

...the fuck were you expecting? How does that badass piece of lizard look terrible? I mean, I have no clue what the story line is, but it's Godzilla. Who cares as long as it looks awesome? This raises the same confusion in me as does people who hated Pacific Rim.
