Re: Do you observe Lent? if so, what are you giving up this year?

I observe that it is Lent, and I am not giving anything up. :p

Ahahaaha I love the confused/bewildered look. It's like they just walked into a room full of dildos.

Some fanservice bugs me and some doesn't. I think it has to do with whether or not I feel the character who is being sexualized would be okay with it.

There is actually a town in Kansas called Arkansas. You pronounce it Ar-Kansas. And if you don't people get mad. Though many people just call it Ark-City.

I don't really drink that much, maybe once every three months or so. :P My family is made up of addicts (of various stuff) and I just don't want to take that chance. :|

That's another thing - most professional authors (at least the ones I've heard of) don't ever use special tools to write, whereas most professional artists do, and I figure there's good reason for that difference. But, in any case, I don't disagree that fic writers should be able to do commissions, if people want to pay for it. Also, fair enough, about Scrivener. Maybe a pure artist finds writing programs to be the same clusterfuck that I do art programs. It's easy to take draft editing and vocabulary for granted when you live and breathe it.

On the guns it depends on the state and the type of gun and they do a background check but yes actually one time my dad walked into Walmart and came out with a hunting rifle. I do not think they would let me buy a gun right away, but I've never tried nor would I.

Insurance: Home - does not include Flood insurance, which is a separate thing you have to buy if you want it. Car - You can't drive without insurance! Health is now required. Dental is different than health. Eye insurance is different than health. Pet insurance is a thing, too. So yeah I guess we do.

A French teacher I had told me that French children are always very well dressed, is that true? How do you feel about this video? Do you ever get your flag confused with Russia's?

Hmm, if you mean inviting two people you think might like each other to the same activity, yes. If you mean actually making them sit by each other or otherwise make them interact, and holy shit, leaving the two alone to make them interact... Yeah, some people do that, but I've always hated it with a vengeance. I can approach and hit on people by myself, thanks xD

Yeah, it's only when you try to explain cultural things that you realize how complicated they are.

I'll probably regret this, but... link?

Okay. It's really funny to me that this is so hard for me to wrap my head around. Here is my understanding:

1. You spend time together individually with friends and/or an established partner, but not someone you're interested in being with (see, here I would have said dating, half the time we use it to describe an established relationship).
2. You get to know a potential partner within a group setting, off to the side at a friend's house or at a bar.
3. You repeat spending time with this person in those settings until you act on your attraction to whatever extent, but something physical.
4. Then this person becomes your partner by default unless you have a conversation to say otherwise, and then you spend time together individually.

Regarding 3: Is there a lot of kissing going on at people's houses, then? And does a relationship generally always begin by spending a whole night together, sex or not? That's the impression I'm getting.

And one more: What if you're at a bar with your friends and you meet someone you're interested in?

So basically...you just don't spend time with people you're interested in without friends around you. Is that accurate?

I was sort of getting that vibe from it but I wasn't sure. There's not like a canonical romance going on there, is there? Your icon is the reason I started watching, by the way. :)

Re: Sleep disorders

[personal profile] herpymcderp 2014-03-05 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
I'm sorry to hear that. :/

All the same, I hope you can find something that works, because prolonged sleep deprivation can be just as bad for your body as drug addiction (in some cases probably worse, actually).

Me too. The terrible thing is that I have been meaning to get a booklight forever so that I can read and not have to get back out of bed. One day. One day.

I hate when you lose your previous saves. I had that happen when playing a Final Fantasy game. I don't think I ever finished it...

I should also say, there's a lot of relationship lead-up interaction that happens in similar group settings here, and generally I think people prefer to initially meet and get to know new people with other friends in order to have that easy walk-away option.

You know all those horror stories that are all about how terrified the author is of sex? Erotic horror is when you make that into actual porn. Vampires and demons are particularly popular, seducing folks in order to drain and eventually kill them--but hey, at least it's a fun death! (It's not a genre I really like, since I prefer sex in a safe, happy context, but I've worked in it a few times.)

Literotica has an erotic horror section, if you feel like checking it out. Just be warned that there's a thin line between "this scares me and turns me on" and "this scares me," and be ready to back-button if you get into something too strong for you.

Re: What Time of Day Does the Mail Arrive?

[personal profile] ryttu3k 2014-03-05 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
Around 3-4 PM for regular mail. Packages can be delivered basically any time between 7 AM and 6 PM, though - I once had to leap out of bed, grab pants, hurry down the stairs, and answer the intercom (I live in an apartment) because a delivery showed up at QUARTER PAST SEVEN. Urgh.

Re: OP

I chose those two comparisons, because it incites the same reaction.

I do not sit and see a naked body, and feel like I am being judged by some supernatural force that I've never believed in, to begin with.
I don't sit and fan myself and go "This is simply too naughty! My my!"
I don't feel guilty, or "wrong," or embarrassed.

But I already explained this at the bottom of the secret.

"Slut shaming" has gone too far to the extent people are not understanding that a costume designed by man specifically made for men to salivate over is in no way empowering and is entirely objectification. This turns into an especially ridiculous argument when we're talking about fictional characters where how they look is completely designed for a specific purpose.

I can tolerate fanservice but Kill la Kill is a bit ridiculous looking, I have yet to give it a watch.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-05 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
After having watched KLK since the beginning I'm really honestly convinced that's the exact intended reaction.

Not in the pagan circles i was in. The way you're putting it is more of a 'red-neck-speak' thing, like 'Murica' or something.
