TMI question thread

(Anonymous) 2014-03-17 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Here's a TMI question that's been bugging me for a while.

for context: cis woman.

I have a weird itch on the front of my crotch. It's right at the bottom of my mons where the labiae majorae start. I looked and it doesn't appear to be near or related to my clit (though it might be at the veeeery base of the hood, hard to tell). It's not always there but sometimes it itches so hard that I scratch it until it burns. It's always in this specific place, not anywhere else (well I occasionally itch in other places but that's no stronger or more frequent than an itch on my nose or whatever).

I don't think I have dry skin down there - I don't wash it with soap, and if I had an issue like that, wouldn't it affect the whole vulva? Maybe it's just something weird/something else?

I'm not seeing my gyn again until this summer. Was wondering if anyone had a similar experience/possible explanation.

Also, feel free to ask your own TMI questions in this thread!

For me, it's the place right where the skin splits in two. I don't know why, but it itches like crazy from time to time. If you hadn't had any unprotected sex in the last few months, then it might just be a cleaning issue.

ayrt

I think you and I are talking about the same place, anon. right at the bottom of the crotch front area (mons pubis) where the labiae split off? yeah

Yep, that's it! I think it's normal, perhaps?

Yeah. Sounds like a lot of people experience it, looking at the thread.

I get an itch right there sometimes but it's not as intense or frequent as you're describing. My sympathies, that must be really irritating :(

Interesting. Is there any redness or swelling in the area that you can see?

Do you or have you ever shaved your pubic area?

no (I don't think, the hair makes it kinda hard to see?) and...no? I used to shave my bikini line but gave that up. never shaved anywhere else Down There.

Hmm. The first couple of things that come to mind are that it could be a small sebaceous cyst forming in one of the hair follicles, or an ingrown hair, but you'd typically see some swelling/redness if that were the case. There's also the possibility of eczema, contact dermatitis, an STI, yeast infection...

I would have this looked at if it persists. Sometimes though, an itch is just an itch. Hopefully that's what this turns out to be.

How can you know if you're not getting properly warmed up or if you just have a small vagina?

I feel like mine is small.

I have a small vagina. :( It happens, and it sucks.

If you're really interested in penetration, you can get a set of progressively bigger dildos and gradually work your way up over time. That's sorta what I did. I can now finally handle 'average guy sized' stuff.

Well luckily I'm in a relationship with another (cis) woman so I have complete control over the size of what's going in there. Guess I'll just stick with getting dildos that are marketed as "slim". I just wish I hadn't wasted money on larger ones while I was still experimenting.

It may be a yeast infection. They don't always present with the typical symptoms of discharge and itching in other parts of the vulva. I for one have never had discharge during a yeast infection, including ones diagnosed by the doctor after a lab test and sometimes there's some pretty intense itching concentrated in that area, especially if it's a mild case.

I tend to get zits and in-grown hairs right in the crease of my outer labia. Generally I just notice that the area is a bit itchy when one's developing, but sometimes they turn into big nasty obnoxious things.

I don't really worry about it. Skin gets zits and in-grown hairs sometimes, especially when it's kept smashed up in sweaty clothes all day.

I've had extremely uncomfortable itching in that spot in the past, and, in my case, it was caused by a small scratch/cut/split in the skin (probably caused by dryness, though not dryness in the sense of flaky skin so much as dryness in the sense of mild dehydration). If that's what it is for you too, then it should clear up soon enough.

Oh man, I've totally had that itch before, and it completely sucks. I have no idea what causes it (it's not a yeast infection, and there's no redness or anything that doesn't come from me rubbing the shit out of it trying to itch it), but I find what helps me is to draw a not-too-hot bath and sit in there and just sort of...spread, to put not too fine a point on it. It might sting a bit if you've really rubbed yourself raw, but it should fade.

Okay, we all get navel lint. And we all get buttcrack lint.

But how many other uncut guys get foreskin lint? Is that just me?

Since we're TMI here and talking about vaginas, I might as well! I've wanted to ask this for a while but I've been too embarrassed to make my own thread.

About 3-4 weeks ago, I got some amoxicillin to try and treat another symptom that my doctor thought was an infection, but it wasn't (that's a different thing entirely). I'm not allergic to penicillin and I've taken amoxicillin before, but for whatever reason, it totally fucked me up. I started feeling sick and weak, the normal bacteria areas seemed to just freak out, and my vagina started doing...well, what it did. I have a spot at the bottom of my vagina opening that either gets irritated or tears when I have sex with my hubby. Before this happened, it had probably been two weeks or so since we'd last done the deed, so I was surprised when that spot all of a sudden started itching really badly. I felt around down there and realized that spot has swollen up into a lump. It itched so bad that I scratched it once or twice over the next two days. That third day, the whole vagina area was swollen and all of the skin was very dry. I didn't realize how dry until I was scratching another part of it and my hand came back bloody.

I've never had a yeast infection before and my gyno is 45 minutes away (it's so hard to find a new one even if the one you have is totally inconvenient) and even so, there weren't any open appointments for at least a week. I have a coworker that swore it was because of the antibiotic and if I just did the 7 day treatment, it'd be okay. So I spent $20 that I didn't really have to get the OTC treatment and tried it that night.

Never ever ever in my life have I experienced such an excruciating itching sensation. Everything seemed okay until the medicine started to, eh, seep? And then the opening started itching so horribly that I could only take it for about 15 minutes before I'd hopped in the shower and washed it all off, then had a good cry because I had no idea what was going on. I threw the rest of the medicine away.

Well, that was several weeks ago. The itching subsided a few days after I tried the treatment, and the swelling went down maybe four or so days ago. The oddest thing was that when I would clean myself after urinating or whatever, the skin wasn't slick and smooth. It felt like it was catching. I'm assuming the area was dry because I found lots of small white skin peels down there when I took a shower.

I guess my question is...what the fuck was that? Did I just have to get through whatever that was? Is it safe for me to have sex with my husband again? I don't notice any pain or itching or discharge or swelling. About the only odd thing is that my urine kinda smells icky. Nothing hurts.

And the symptom that the antibiotic was supposed to fix is still there, ha ha. I can't win for losing.

TL;DR: Took antibiotics, vagina started swelling and itching. Yeast infection medicine made it way way worse. Afraid to have sex now.

Antibiotics can really mess with the balance of healthy bacteria in your body.

I wouldn't try any more over the counter products or any feminine hygiene soaps or lotions until you've been to see your gyno. You might end up aggravating the problem further. (pharmacy employee who has seen this happen before, here!)

In the meantime, you can try taking some probiotics or adding some yogurt to your diet, and if it is a yeast infection, cutting back on yeasty food and sugars and drinking plenty of water might help. Keep an eye (and a nose) on your pee, too. Sometimes vaginal issues and UTIs happen together.

Yeast and bacterial infections (even if they weren't originally transmitted through sex) can spread through sexual contact (even oral!) so I would probably hold off until you've talked to your gyno, and keep any cuts on your hands covered because yeast can infect those too.

I hope this is resolved quickly for you.
