I tried writing a rarepair for a very quiet fandom (Stephen King's IT - the novel, not the movie) and... yeah, it was cool for a while, but it really wasn't as satisfying as it would have been to read a good fic for it. All I can really offer as advice is to maybe try and pimp out your tiny fandoms and help them grow? ♥

44. FUCKING SIGNED. HOLY SHIT. It happens to me all the time. I'm in love with a slash pairing or fandom that is COMPLETELY nonexistant, and everyone tells me, "So write your own fanfics!" But you know, I really can't write my own fanfics if there aren't others from the same fandom. I read other fanfics for inspiration or tips on staying in-character. I hate having tiny fandoms. :/ And even worse, I always ship a really uncommon pairing in it (IE: incest, slash, both) and even fewer than fanfiction for my fandom is fanfiction for my pairing, and it's SUCH A PAIN IN THE ASS. DX

Well, I probably exaggerated a little when saying people act like it's the only pairing in the fandom... Ryou is one of my absolute favorite characters, so when I go looking for fic it's usually about him, and like, 90% of the ship!fic with him is paired with Yami no Bakura (whether it's badfic or not). The other two pairings you mentioned, while I won't deny their prevalence, don't tend to stand out as much to me because I'm not as fond of the characters within.

I should've been more specific there, but meh, too late now D: Didn't think of that until after I'd submitted the secret.

7. Reminds me of some interesting asides my friend and I had in Shakespeare class yesterday. Discussing the possibility of a homosexual relationship between Antonio and Bassiono in class--acceptable. Realizing that Coriolanus and Aufidius were such frenemies that it's almost impossible not to see them slashed... a little bit less so.

24. I think I know exactly how you feel. I did have Trigun in High School. Six-ish years later, it's still my very favorite anime, even though I'm off the anime-wagon these days. When I was depressed, back in high school and early college, and felt like I needed a sympathetic person to talk to, I'd imagine I was talking to Vash. He was such a genuine, empathetic sweetheart. I'm not ashamed. I know I'm a loser.
But Vash is one too. In such an adorable, wonderful, why can't more human beings be like that sort of way.

44. I feel your pain. With art, not so much, because I geniunely enjoy creating a piece of fanart of something that I want to see. But with fic... well, yes, I've got some little plot-bunnies for *insert-obscure-thing-here* but I'd much rather read someone else's take on it. Plus...much less effort to read than to write. Usually.
I'll go ahead and say write your own fic, just because for all you know, there may be other people out there looking for the same thing. And the truth is, I never would've written those fics about...um...a certain character... if I hadn't found some others and realized I was not alone.

And what, do you expect people to stop saying they find a character hot just so you don't have to "worry over what bad!fic people are writing"? Guess what, fandoms don't revolve around you. If you spend all your time worrying about what people are writing or who they find hot then that's your problem, not theirs.
As for "can't you just like the characters" - UH. That's exactly what they ARE doing. Jeez. And you say "why does the internet always have to be about sex" like it's a bad thing. What's it to you if people find "fake characters" hot? Don't like how the internet is rollin'? Feel free to get out.

Nothing is BAD about it being about sex and I don't think anyone here is saying that it is. It's just that fandom as a whole seems to be very focused on sex, and for people who just aren't into that aspect of it, it can make it very hard to actually get into fandom and even make friends because just about everyone around them is slashing and shipping left right and center and you just don't have anything to relate to.
I've seen the reaction that these secrets get here, and a lot of those reactions make people feel even more alienated. Just as you're saying not everything in fandom revolves around THEM, it doesn't revolve around YOU either. People get into fandoms for different reasons and sometimes, it's very hard to get respect for that if it's not for the sex.
