SEE ABOVE COMMENT.

I've only ever read the pairing when it's smushed into a fic about the pairings I actually 'ship, but I've only seen one author do it well. But I don't really wander blindly into FF.net without a rec from someone, anyway D:

20: ...YOU. HAVE MY THEORETICAL BABIES. D: I'm gonna echo a few other people and say that I don't think it's quite as prevalent as you say (although with the number of secrets pertaining to the pairing we've had lately, you'd think otherwise), but when looking for Ryou fic, yeah, that's pretty much all I find >> *sits in her relatively lonely Malik/Ryou corner*

41: Jesus, it's not that hard to just... y'know... scroll past them, is it? 8|

OMGIKNOW. I was in the fandom for years, and close to nothing came up. It's part of the reason I didn't stay. D:

Please be my bestest-best friend. :3
We will write Gaia-Slash and start a revolution.

This secret made me really, really happy. It changed my mood completely. <3

OMG VIOLINIST OF HAMELN FAN ILU.

Vocal for the HARDCORE win!

(I cosplayed him and Sizer waaaaaaay back in the day.)

6. You think that's sad, read the book... Justin gets an even worse end of the deal. Well, okay, there's some hope.

10. Don't know the fandom, but you're condoning yuri and I totally support the call for more yuri in a fandom.

17. Oh fucking hell, I HATE Pein/howeverit'sspelled. Seriously, his hole arc is what made me give up on Naruto. He's like an overload of every other antagonist in the series.

28. I completely understand that sentiment.

43. Oh god, I know... That book still makes me cry, though, I get way too into it.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_bellisima/ 2007-11-15 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
9. ilu for having Drakken/Shego as an OTP (I totally ship them too).
11. Me too. I can still sing along with and do the choreography from the songs. (and don't even get me started on the Newsie Moments...)

14

[identity profile] icebilby.livejournal.com 2007-11-15 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
Stick it to them and write for your character anyway! All that matters is that the character is important to you. Who cares if some popular people on the internet will get mad if you use something that's coincidentally similar to theirs?

Do iiiiiit.

[identity profile] matalinolukaret.livejournal.com 2007-11-15 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
24: I miss Trigun. ♥ He was really a character that I connected with. Love and peace for all.

[identity profile] wao.livejournal.com 2007-11-15 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
41 - Regarding "We get it already", WORD. I don't give two shits whether people act like that on the intarwebs, it's quite normal, but in fact that's precisely why I don't see why the hell they are SECRETS. At least add something like "my friends all hate the shit out of glasses guys" or "I act like a prude outside" without just adding a "ooh I have a sexual fetish for ________" and thinking it's a secret (and then getting posted as a secret...)

And as for the rest of it, well personally I might feel that way (I just don't find the urge to ship as hard as some people do) I think it's your own responsibility to know where to avoid this sort of activity.

[identity profile] chwheeler.livejournal.com 2007-11-15 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
9) Powerful women are awesome. And yay for the Niles/CC pic!

30) Helga and Arnold were totally my first OTP. I miss them too.

43) Right there with ya.

[identity profile] oldsneakers.livejournal.com 2007-11-15 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
14) dude, like umicorns are really that original anyways. :x don't get me wrong, i really like klar's style n' stuff, but yeah. super-cute unicorn anthros are not a super-unique concept, and i don't think you should feel bad for your writing your character. just don't do it on da lol? %B

7. I don't really see it. Maybe if they actually interacted more in the book.

42. Heh! I wish that image wasn't so small so I could read what he's thinking there. But yeah, that is the logical conclusion, isn't it?

Dude, especially with L. I'm so sick of people saying how sexy L is, because uh... HE'S NOT. He's greasy and unkempt and doesn't sleep, is underweight and probably has a nasty complexion because of all of those.

The toilet fanart made me LOL.

#1: I wish my fandom was small... I think it was better when it was :\

(Anonymous) 2007-11-15 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
14. Given the size of the furry fandom, I don't see how an entire species can ever by off limits to anthropomorphizing just because someone else did it first. This is especially true when you're talking about a creature as well known as the unicorn. Don't let a couple of deviantart "celebrities" make unicorns off limits. As other have mentioned, other people have made anthro unicorns long before them.

Seeing people getting possessive about broad concepts like species, colors, and body parts pisses me off to no end. I remember when I used to play Neopets and someone tried to copyright adding ears to one of the pet species. Hahahaha, copyright doesn't work that way.

#14

(Anonymous) 2007-11-15 04:42 am (UTC)(link)
Ya know, unless you're drawing THEIR character, do what the hell you want.

They don't have the official copyright to that specific style, do they? Prolly not, and even then, if the style is 20% or more different, in most cases, the really official people don't give a damn.

Don't let other people who decide to monopolize something kill your creativity. Write for the pleasure of writing. Draw for the pleasure of drawing.

20, 44

[identity profile] vikki.livejournal.com 2007-11-15 04:50 am (UTC)(link)
20. AGREED. The Dark Bakura/Bakura fandom drives me NUTS. I think I could like this pairing, only no one understands how to write them!

Actually, I ship Yuugi/Yami (in that order), and no one can write THAT well either. Dammit. I am totally down with the Puzzle!sex and NO ONE DOES IT dammit! WHY DOES THIS FANDOM SUCK SO MUCH OMG.

44. I always have a little squeefest when I find the rare fic that hits everything I'm looking for, but I hate having to write fic for myself as well. I wish other people would write it for me ... because after you've put in the effort, the story will never be as much fun to read later. ;___;

[identity profile] odditypist.livejournal.com 2007-11-15 04:55 am (UTC)(link)
1. There's just a disturbingly thin line between "small" and "nonexistant," it seems. :( Too many of mine seem to fall into the latter... Where are my Interworld or (Ultimate) Versus or Colfire Trilogy or Cowboy Bebop: Shooting Star or Shadow of Memories fandoms, people?

3. Motoko does indeed beat the pants off of all other anime women--but there're some other good ones out there, too. (Sir Integra from Hellsing being a prime, I'd-also-go-gay-for-her example. >.>)

5. Aw, don't worry. I'm not so into One Piece, but I've noticed a distressing tendancy in myself to not care nearly as much about the main characters in most series, and instead love some secondary characters SO DAMN HARD (and then pout when they don't get enough development. o-orz). A few of my friends do the same. ;D You may not be alone?

9. This has probably been said a billion times by now. BUT I LOVE YOU FOR YOUR JESSE/JAMES DESCRIPTION♥

10. ... What I don't even know what this series is and I'd ship them. May I hold the fandom in contempt for you? (What fandom is it, I want in. XD;)

14. Oh man... Hon, go ahead and write them. I've seen so much wank from people like those "brilliant" artists, and it's all bullshit. Just because you decide to make a character who's part unicorn, or a humanoid version of a fox or something, doesn't mean you're the sole owner of the idea. It's not a totally original idea, and if they really think that anyone who makes a humanoid unicorn character is stealing from their "OMG ORIGINAL CHARACTERZ," they're lame. You can copyright a character--not an entire style of drawing, and really, the very fact that they think they have the right to be pissed over that shows they should probably be ignored.

... And dude, seriously, just have to add: that's like saying that you created the idea of humanoid dragons, or a person born half-vampire. That's seriously like 99% of fandom's original characters. Ideas like that can be done well, but they sure as hell aren't special enough to warrant throwing a "MINE" label on, and it's retarded to do so. Draw your unicorn boy, and good luck. :3

15. AGREED. Also fangirling you simply for the TTGL secret. SQUEE. But yeah, I know all about the series and have just started actually watching it--I'm pretty sure I'm going to cry repeatedly through this thing, and I bet I'll bawl for Viral's happy little family thing most of all. Poor crazyboy needs more happy and bebbis (and flower crowns!) in his life. :(

16. I liked Toguro's backstory! He was cool. But I also personally find it to be sorta cliche--well handled cliche, but cliche nonetheless. I can't even tell who the first guy is in the other two pictures, but it doesn't seem really... sensible to call Aizen's backstory cheap and dull when his backstory hasn't been revealed. :/ Also, I've found that in many of the better animes, the villains often have interesting backstory, even if not much of it's revealed (like the Hellsing Nazis--interesting idealism, not much backstory at all, doesn't matter much), so I bet if you just keep looking you'll find more you like~

20. Sorta the reason I avoid most L/Light or Mello/Near stuff. Th-these pairings are not fluffy and cuddly people. Mello would flip out and point a gun at near, and Light would be trying to kill L while L tries to put him behind bars and on death row. All while admitting that they're still good friends. ;;;

21. Her new stuff's better than her older stuff, but it's still a far cry from something I'm interested in. Just because people don't like her music doesn't mean they're doing it because it's "cool to hate on her." There's also just... not liking her music, not liking the whole style of music, or even not liking the woman herself (the more she shows up the news, the more ridiculous she seems: does she have more than a dozen active brain cells in there?) and deciding that if they don't like HER, they're not gonna listen to her music. That's a valid thing too.

24. The world would be a much better place with a Vash. ... More disaster-ridden too, of course, but the pros outweigh the cons! XD

26. *CHOKED, THANK YOU* Just wanted to say that \o/

g-god I talk a lot D: ;;

[identity profile] odditypist.livejournal.com 2007-11-15 04:56 am (UTC)(link)
31. Ohhhh man. Please do be telling me the name of this game. I-I'd be fangirling him too for the exact same reasons. Also, Gunzi sorta reminds me of Belphagor from Katekyō Hitman Reborn!

36. I don't know your reasons for not watching, but I can at least assure you that the anime/manga's not as retarded as half the fandom would make it seem. N-no "kawaii L-chan desu desu," I promise. ;;

39. Lurk CFUD (http://campfuckudie.livejournal.com/). You will not be disappointed. ... Probably. :D;;; J-just check out their quotes page (http://cfudquotes.livejournal.com) first if you need convincing.

40. HEY THERE I KNOW WHO YOU AREEEEEEE. YOU ARE TOTALLY NOT AWFUl YOUR CHARACTERS ARE SO AWESOME \o/

41. Scroll past and ignore. :/ Way to get your bloodpressure up. And if you're unable to enjoy fandom worrying about badfic... lol give up on the Internet really you're doomed. It's everywhere, just... ignore it.

44. I totally relate. =_= It's not as much fun to read something you wrote as it is to read someone else's stuff--you're not actually gonna surprise yourself on a reread. And it's refreshing to see someone else's style and take on things, not just yours all the time. Writing and drawing yourself for the fandom is fun, but when that's all that's going on, and no one's even interested in what you're doing but you, it can get a little lonely.
