OTPs you ship platonically (or platonic OTPs)!

Do you have any platonic OTPs OR romantic OTPs that you love reading platonic friends stories about?

For instance Donna Noble and Ten are my number one, all time platonic OTP. I love them together as friends and can never see them as a romantic couple.

And I ship Sherlock/John like nobody's business BUT I love reading frienship stories about them. Honestly, I sometimes prefer the platonic stories about them!

Do you all have any?

Donna and Ten are definitely up there for me. I could only really stand Ten when he was with her, strangely.

I also really like Leslie and Ann from Parks and Rec as best friends and can read about them doing best-friend things all day long.

CJ and Toby from The West Wing. Ten and Donna too. Jack and Liz from 30 Rock. Frasier and Roz from Frasier. Um, there's definitely others...

There are no same-sex friendships that I will only read slash for. Gen friendship is always just as enjoyable as slash for me, no matter how hard I may ship them. And the list of gen same-sex platonic OTPS that I absolutely don't want any slash for are too numerous to count right now.

harry/ron and ginny/luna from hp (even though i also ship the latter romantically).

enjolras/combeferre from les mis. they're so good for each other, it's amazing.

sawyer/hurley and charlie/hurley from lost. there need to be more fic about them (i just want more lost fic really).

Also I ship and friendship 4/Sarah Jane equally, and Sarah Jane/Clyde purely platonically (I love Sarah Jane Adventures for the intergenerational friendships)

The whole SG1 team (shhhhh, yes I know I also ship Sam/Jack.)

Janeway/7 (they don't go romantically for me, but the whole mentor/student thing is one of my faves to platoniship)

Speaking of mentors and students and intergenerationsl friendships, Will/Magnus on Sanctuary.

Tony and Abby, and Tony and Tim, on NCIS. I used to friendship Ducky and Abby but now I just ship them, oops.

Vimes and Vetinari are my brotp, I regret that so many people ship them romantically because it makes gen fic so hard to find. I love them as bros who won't admit that they're bros <3 I ship Vetinari with Drumknott romantically but I like genfic for them too. As a matter of fact, I think their platonic ship fics are better than most of their romantic ship fics too!

I don't think I have any 'ships where I don't also love reading stories about them being friends. Of course, I also gravitate towards rarepairs, so sometimes it's just me being willing to take these two interacting any way I can get it.

yes. I have MANY. Almost all of my fandoms have at least one.

Homestuck: John/Dave, John/Karkat, Karkat/Terezi
Mass Effect: Grunt/Jack (my BroTP tbh, I wish more people appreciated them)
YGO: Yami/Yugi
MCU/SHIELD: FitzSimmons, Tony/Bruce
WoT: Mat/Birgitte, Elayne/Aviendha
HP: Harry/Hermione
AtLA/LoK: Korra/Bolin

Obviousyl I am forgetting some (probably many)

also disclaimer I do not hate all of these as romantic pairings; quite the contrary, some I like either way, but also some I really strongly prefer only as friends, or have simply never thought of them in a romantic context (some have other partners/other people I ship them with, and/or no chemistry with each other).

And I really think fandom needs more awesome M/F friendships! And brother/sister relationships!

Tir and Gremio from the Suikoden games. I have determined that shipping them romantically squicks me terribly, having friends who write good fic who have written it. I normally enjoy their fic. I can't read their Tir/Gremio fic. But I will read and write fic about Tir and Gremio being platonic self-sacrificing lifemates FOREVAR.

And I will also happily read fics about any of my favored pairings as platonic friends as long as the dynamic from the canon is there and sounds right. It's the dynamic from the canon that makes me think "they're so good together, they should get together" anyway, so even if they're not a couple, I'm still getting what I most enjoy out of it.

I was a fan of Donna and Ten until all the behind-the-scenes backstory came out. So apparently they ditched the actress who played Martha because Tennant didn't like her, and he got along better with the actress who played Donna.

So, I heard that here on FS, and maybe it was all Chinese whispers and just idle gossip IDK. But it soured me on Donna and Ten's wacky adventures anyway.

Totally agreed about Donna and Ten! I just cannot wrap my head around shipping them, their platonic relationship is too perfect.

DS9: BASICALLY EVERYONE but mostly O'Brien/Bashir, and Odo/Quark. I'm hard pressed to choose which of those two relationships is my favorite brOTP of the series.

Mass Effect: Not sure if this counts because it's really not a friendship, but I adore Zaal'Koris and Han'Gerrel's relationship in all forms... like, I will read anything (not that there really is anything) but my personal headcanons tend to default to platonic rivalry - as in sure they hate each other but they're sort of a constant in each other's lives at this point, and know each other extremely well. there is so much chemistry why aren't people all over them I DON'T UNDERSTAND Oh, and Han'Gerrel/Rael'Zorah. That's more of a traditional brOTP... BFFs to the point of being like family.

...*cough* main characters though, Tali/Garrus is fine as a pairing but I tend to prefer them as bros4lyfe. (Tali/Garrus/Shepard would probably count as a friendship OT3 if I didn't also ship Garrus/Femshep.) And diet_poison already mentioned another of my favorites, Grunt and Jack.

MCU: Bruce and Tony. I might ship FitzSimmons but they are also adorable as besties so I don't really care.

Don't laugh: Bobby Singer and Anna Milton. (I blame years of roleplay. I doubt there's any fic at all where they've ever met.)

Merlin/Arthur and Merlin/Gwaine. I ship the hell out of them, sure, but I love reading gen too. Especially from Gwaine or Merlin's POV.

To lesser extent, Starsky/Hutch. I vastly prefer to read slash, but I take gen sometimes too.

I like most of my OTPs just as well as friends as romantically.

A couple off the top of my head that fall into this category are:
Sam / Janet and Sam / Jack (SG1)
Tasha / Deanna (TNG)
Skye / Simmons and Fitz / Simmons (Agents of S.HI.E.L.D.)
Anne/Diana and Anne / Philippa (Anne of Green Gables) [also Walter / Wilfred Owen, but that only exists in my head :(].

A couple of purely platonic OTPs:
Leslie Knope and Ann Perkins, Ron Swanson and Leslie (Parks and Recreation)
Sisko and Jadzia Dax (DS9)
Joan Watson and Sherlock Holmes (Elementary)

Pullo and Vorenus from Rome are a borderline case. They're a platonic OTP for me, but I don't mind slash if it means Pullo and Vorenus can spend more time together.

Fili and Kili, while I totally ship them I also enjoy reading gen bro-fic about the two of them just as much.
Tony Stark and Bruce Banner(from the MCU specifically).
Ryan and Esposito, again I ship them but I also love gen for these two as well.
Sherlock and Joan from Elementary.

Crowley, Cas, Sam & Dean. I think of them as a bunch of friends going for a road trip. Just as friends, that occasionally want to kill each other.

I also feel like Ash and Garth would have been good friends.

My OTP (Boromir/Kíli) came from a platonic friendship fic.

I can only stand the idea of Tauriel/Kíli as a friendship.

One of my RP OTPs is Kíli/Silmaril. It's a totally platonic sibling relationship. Also on that front, Maedhros/Silmaril. Kizár (the silmaril in question) is his favourite sister.

I agree with everyone saying Doctor/Donna is best as a friendship. One of the biggest things that made them refreshing was that Donna had absolutely not interest in the Doctor romantically, she wanted a friend and to go tripping around the universe.

I would like to read a Harry/Ginny friendship fic that does not end up with them romantically involved. If anyone has recs for that, I'd appreciate it greatly.
